Mr. Appliance of Melbourne

I've used Mr. Appliance twice: once, in April 3023 to diagnose a refrigerator leak and yesterday, August 22, 2023, to diagnose a noise my dryer was making. On the first visit they charged me $109 to tell me it would be cheaper to buy a new refrigerator, which I did. For the dryer, the tech took off the front cover, and saw and removed a petrified frog from the blower fins. He charged me $179 to do that. I was very surprised that it cost me an additional $70 to reach down, pick up the small dried frog, and throw it in my garbage - a ten-minute job. I can't imagine what they would charge if they actually had to repair something. They said they charge by the job, which means you have no idea what their fee will be until they diagnose the problem. Most plumbers, electricians, etc. charge for an hour's wage up front. If it's a half-hour job it's still the same fee plus parts. But with Mr. Appliance that fee is on a sliding scale: $109 to show up, plus an undisclosed additional labor fee that depends on the job. In my case, it was an additional $70 to remove a dead frog. They also refused to send me an invoice for the dryer job. The tech said he would email it to me, but never did; when I called the office the next day to again request an invoice, the person said they just sent it out but, again, it never came (and it wasn't in my spam folder). Be advised there is no accountability with Mr. Appliance if something goes wrong. Their parent company, Neighborly, will bounce you to the nearest Mr. Appliance franchise based on your submitted zip code on the Contact Us page of their website.
