This really went better than I expected - not that I didn't have high expectations, but the service and quality of the work is about the best I've ever seen. The Excel employees were great about explaining how to use the system. Russ and Alisha at the office were great about guiding me through the process with Florida Power & Light to get the rebate, and the rebate combined with the tax credit is going to cut the cost in half. Russ provided the documentation I needed for the FP&L rebate and I got notification yesterday from FP&L that the rebate is approved and on the way. I can't say enough about the quality of work - the guys left the garage cleaner than when they started. The city inspector that reviewed the work said that it's the best he's ever seen, and I imagine that he's seen a lot. So now I'm looking forward to a long time with no bills for heating water.

The good news is, for the last month, we have had all kinds of company staying over. A week after the system was installed, we had five people taking showers twice a day, every day. We had to turn on the electric backup, the first day, for one hour only because it was cloudy and because of the huge hot water demand of five people. The truth is, the first day our company got here, the collector didn't really have a chance to build up the hot water. We wanted to test the system right from the start and we just used the hot water all up. We have gone almost thirty days without turning on the electric back up. We have been very pleased. We are smarter about our hot water usage now. We have never run out of hot water since that first day.

From beginning to end, Russ and his staff performed and delivered above all expectations. I am mostly a do-it-yourself type of person and have rare need for a contractor, plus I have had negative experiences with them in the past. But when it came to some work that we did not feel we could tackle, we chose Excel Solar for a professional solar water heater and pool heater installation. Russ went over every detail with us and explained exactly what would transpire. He has the utmost confidence in the products he sells and stands behind his work and the work of his crew. The date of installation came and went without a hitch and everything was just as Russ said it would be. The units and controls were installed in a very clean and impressive manner, right down to the wrapping on the pipes. After the installation, you would never have known how much work was performed and amount of materials that were used as the jobsite was picked up very thoroughly. Kelly did an outstanding job handling the administrative side, coordinating everything and keeping in constant communication with us throughout the process. The staff employed by Russ went to every length possible to make sure the installation was completed in a professional manner. They have a real pride in their work and it is justified. They answered all questions and thoroughly explained how the system works and provided tips for use. Russ also provided everything needed to complete rebate forms. Every meeting or request we had was completed in a timely manner, exactly when they said it would be. The installation crew was very punctual and efficient. Prior to the project I did considerable research on the best choice of contractor to perform the work. Do not be fooled by fancy websites or unrealistic claims. Russ and his crew are the perfect example of what a person should receive when contracting out work. You will never second guess your choice of having Excel Solar complete any type of installation or other work for you. They have restored my faith in how a contractor should conduct themselves.

Outstanding from start to finish, Russ made a very effectuve presentation, Kelly kept the timeline on track, even secondary to our (Customer) schedule changes, outstanding one day installation, everything dress right dress.

Russ met with me several times to explain and verify all aspects of the installations. He also advised me of the FPL procedure for rebates. After I was approved by FPL I signed the contract and his office scheduled the installation. The installers showed up on time were professional, knowledgeable and respectful. the total installation took a couple of days they always cleaned up any mess each evening and upon completion spent ample time with me explaining the operation and how the systems work. After the permit was approved Russ returned to take pictures for the rebate and make sure there were no questions or problems. the same day e mailed me the photos and forms to get the rebate. the old hot water heater/electric was under warrants and leaking so they contacted the manufacture and got a replacement that we can use on our other properties as required. With the exception of lawn care and pool service Excel Solar is the 8th contractor That has worked on this property in the last year and a half and they are the only one I would recommend.

After interviewing all three companies we decided to use Russ because he seemed to be the most honest of the bunch and he is involved in the installation process. He really takes an interest in each project which is nice. The guys showed up on time and they coordinated with our schedule which again was nice. Payment wasn't asked for until they were complete which made us feel comfortable. The installation went very smooth every looks great and works great. We have no complaints and would recommend Excel Solar to anyone in Brevard County. Be careful with the others as once we started digging we found some information on other companies that wasn't appealing to us as consumers. Russ and his company were blemish free and we can see why after seeing what a great job they do and they way they take of your home. I will be referring them to everyone that has a solar need.

Earlier this year I went to a home expo in Melbourne to check on getting a new roof and while there I met Russ,the owner of Excel Solar. Asked him how much it would cost to remove and replace the solar panel so new metal roof could be installed. $495. Since the panel was about 30 years old asked the price of a new one. About $1800. Russ suggested that it would be more cost effective to get an entire system, water tank , collector, and new piping. After FPL voucher, federal tax credit and coupon, the price would work out to around $2080 for a brand new system. The original system was installed by Solamerica back in the early 80s. That was Russ's father-in-law's company. Decided to go that route. The installers, David and Chris, both with a lot of installation experience, did an outstanding job and I couldn't be happier. The new panel is smaller, more efficient and uses a DC circulating pump which gets its power from a small photovoltaic panel attached to the collector on the roof, rather than the old system which used a 115 VAC pump. I have the circuit breaker turned off for the back-up electric power in case it's cloudy for too many days, but haven't needed to use the electricity since installation. The payback period will vary according your hot water demand, but will probably be between 4.5 and 6.5 years, after rebates and such. Hot water electric usage is figured to be around 30-40% of your bill, behind A/C and heating. We had our original system for 30+ years, and personally, I haven't figured out why everybody in Florida with a few thousand dollars to invest doesn't have solar hot water. Do the math! For what you are getting by keeping your money in a savings account or a CD paying next to nothing, and paying taxes on that to boot, it's really a no-brainer!!! Russ, who worked for his step-dad at Solamerica, probably installed our original system, so I have no hesitation in giving his company Excel Solar the highest recommendation. The work by David and Chris, and follow thru by his wife Kelly in the office was excellent.
