Description of Work: I'm not a big review writer, but after having a issue with my air-conditioner this week and using Duron Smith AC I feel that a review is in order. I contacted them Wednesday morning after my unit stopped working and within a couple of hours I was back up and running. I told the technician that I was interested in a quote on a new unit. The house is sixty five years old, I purchased it last year and two of the bedrooms have never had cold air coming out of the vents. I was thinking that I needed new vents and maybe a new unit. Mike Duron came out and after checking everything out informed me that it was just a matter of a lose duct in one room and a clogged vent in the other which only took a matter of minutes for me to correct. So I didn't need new vents or unit after all. Mikes ethical business practice speaks to a very high level of professionalism that is unfortunately not common.

Description of Work: We have dealt with Duron Smith for 15 years and our family has used them here in Cocoa Beach 25+ years. They are without a doubt the most responsive, helpful, polite, clean and thoughtful company I have dealt with in a very long time. The are honest and care about their clients. I have and will recommend them to everyone I know here in the central Florida area. They just installed 2 new a/c units for us and in both instances they were on-time, polite, clean (personally and their work area), efficient, pleasant and a joy to work with. Their pricing is competitive and they don't try and upsell you to something you do not need. Having never had a problem with them I cannot address how they respond...but then again not having a problems in all these years speaks volumes. Don't hesitate to contact them and have them in your home.

Mr. Smith arrived to install the new equipment on the prearranged date. One of his workers showed up early, which was not a problem. The worker began setting up his tools and waited for Mr. Smith to arrive with the equipment. Mr. Smith arrived a short time later with the equipment, followed by another worker. The three men proceeded to disassemble the heating unit and the air handler, and the installation of the new equipment followed immediately. The men completely disassembled the cooling unit, including the piping/tubing that ran underground from the condenser to the air handler (coil), as well as the old air handler, took the old equipment away, and installed the new equipment. Mr. Smith came and went as his obligations as the owner took him, while the two other men continued with the installation. In addition to installing the new equipment, they also installed a new digital thermostat, adjusted the vents in all the rooms (directing the air flow into the room instead of agains the wall, as some of the vents were doing), and installed new filters where needed. They also rebuilt, for all intents and purposes, the platform on which the air handler sat, reinforcing it in the process. They cleaned up when they finished, leaving that corner of the garage cleaner than when they started the job. Any digging that was done outside was backfilled, and the only giveaway was that the area around the heat pump looked cleaner and neater than the rest of the lawn. I was skeptical at first when Mr. Smith gave me his assessment, his recommendation, and the cost. My wife and I discussed everything, and we concluded, based on the problems we experienced in the house that we sold, that we didn't want to go through that again. We rationalized that the easy way was to "fix" only what was broken, which was the route we took in our other house, and that ended up costing us more in the long run. It was for that reason that we opted to go with Mr. Smith's recommendation, concluding that the cost of the new system, in the long run, would be less that taking the easy way out. I should point out that Mr. Smith gave me two estimates: one for the new heat pump and air handler, including rebuilding the platform and installing a digital thermostat; and one that included just fixing what, in his opinion, had to be fixed at a minimum. As I said above, given what we went through in the house that we sold in 2010, we felt that a completely new system was the way to go. Since the system has been installed now for about two weeks, we haven't had a real opportunity to assess how well it heats/cools. We can say that it runs very quietly, so much so that I keep checking to see if the blower is on and/or if the condenser is running. As for the cost, Mr. Smith factored into his estimate the rebate that we would received from FPL. That was ok with us. We figured that the bottom line cost of the new heating/cooling system would be effectively amortized over the next 15/20 years; and on that basis, we felt that the price we paid was fair. The estimate that we received was firm, i.e. the final cost was what Mr. Smith indicated in his estimate. From time to time while the work was under way we chatted with the three men about various topics related to hvac equipment, installation and maintenance. Most of what they told us jibed with what we heard over the years; and some of what they told us was new information that we'll keep for future reference. On balance, as of right now we're happy with the new system, and we believe that the cost of the new system was reasonable. We are taking advantage of the maintenance agreement offered by Mr. Smith's company, priced at a nominal cost. 3/2/12 - I received a phone call earlier this week wherein someone at the firm wanted to set up an appointment for my annual maintenance. I had the service performed today. The maintenance involved checking the refrigerant, the electrical connections, changing batteries in the thermostat, checking the filters, cleaning the outside unit, cleaning the inside unit (air handler). The service contract I had with the utility company in New Jersey, before I left the state in 2010, only included checking the function of the unit. Any cleaning was an add-on for an extra fee. Having lived through one complete heating/cooling cycle here in Florida, and having had the maintenance performed on the unit, I can say that I am completely satisfied with the performance of the unit, and I am completely satisfied with the maintenance contract. I would wholeheartedly recommend Duron Smith AC & Heat Inc. to anyone who is considering upgrading or replacing their heating/cooling system.
Description of Work: When we had our house inspected, the inspector recommended that we have the heating/cooling unit checked. We called Duron Smith. He arrived on the prearranged date and immediately assessed the capability of the heating/cooling unit vis a vis the square footage of the house. His assessment was that the unit was too big for the house. There were other issues, too, e.g. the platform on which the air handler sat was collapsing; there was no float valve on the drain pan; the vents in some of the rooms on one side of the house were completely closed, indicating to him that there was a problem with heating/cooling one side of the house; some of the connections from the cooling unit were not made properly. Also, instead of having a heat pump, as most homes in my area have, we had a cooling unit, and heat strips sitting above the air handler. Without my asking, Mr. Smith recommended a high efficiency heat pump matched with an equally efficient air handler. It was what I had wanted anyway, so I did not question his recommendation. Since we were still in the process of relocating, we arranged with Mr. Smith to do the installation at a later date. Since we had a new home warranty, we inquired whether or not the installation of the new equipment would be covered. We called in a hvac technician used by the company that issued the warranty. That technician said that there was nothing wrong with the system that we had, and that it was properly sized for the house. In the home that we sold in 2010, we experienced continual problems with the heating/cooling system, similar to some of the problems that Mr. Smith pointed out in our new home. Because of the problems that we experienced, and the costs associated with fixing those problems, we didn't question Mr. Smith's assessment of the equipment in the new house, and we readily agreed with his assessment, although we did not tell him.

Excellent preliminary service and professional, high quality installation and service. A good, well meaning contractor.
Description of Work: I chose Duron Smith as my contractor/installer after asking for a high SEER rated A/C and Heating system. He proposed installation of an 18 SEER, 4 ton 2-stage (70/30%) heating and cooling Amana system as it should equal the capacity of my 20+ year old 3 1/2 ton unit when in the "low" mode. The installation was accomplished neatly, professionally, and quickly - having to overcome problems with illness and bad parts sent from his supplier 5/19/2020. We immediately noticed high humidity in the house at the "old normal" temperature settings. Humidity must be kept below 50% and some say 45% is ideal. Mold, mildew and pests become a problem. The system has many settings for customization to the residence's needs and when initially installed the air handler blower was set for the best profile for lowering the humidity. Duron Smith returned 6/15/2020 to make additional adjustments for enabling the system's "Dehumidify" mode. The function clearly does not work. I have not heard from him since August 11, 2010 when he emailed and said that he is asking the company for help. I believe that if the "Dehumidify" mode in the modern digital system were properly enabled that the house would be much more comfortable at more economical temperature settings.

Very well. They were fast, on-time, professional and courteous. This house is rented, so they worked with us and the renters to install the system. They cleaned up after themselves, and even elevated the compressor outside so it was away from ground debris. They showed our renter how to operate the unit and its new thermostat. They took care of rebates for us and were very easy to work with. They also gave a free one-year inspection to us with the job. We just had that done a few weeks ago, and they again were on-time, very thorough with the inspection and courteous. We loved them.

Perfect! See above.
Description of Work: AC shut down on Monday. Called Duron and he came out that afternoon. Outside unit was leaking freon and was showing significant rust. Duron gave several options, from least to most. Made a clear recommendation, taking into consideration available discounts and available tax benefits. We decided to replace the entire system to take advantage of the available deals. Contract faxed for signature on Wednesday morning. Contract clear and concise, describing exactly what he proposed to do. Duron and several helpers arrived promptly at 8 AM Thursday, as promised, and unit installed that day. All old equipment was hauled away and zero mess was left behind. I am left in awe at the quality of service and quality of the installed equipment. Can't be beat.

Over priced, over rated, wouldn't hire them again to do this kind of work. A nightmare.
Description of Work: They installed a standby generator for us. They charged us for a concrete slab to put propane gas tanks on and didn't use them, told them to remove forms several times, never did. Now have concrete slab and must break up and remove from yard. Employees light fingered, took stuff from garage. Marked breakers in light pencil, hard to read. When they left to go, they left service door wide open for all critters to come inside garage. Person in charge acted like I was there to serve her. Would not hire them to do anything again.

Amazing service. They came as scheduled. Completed all work, and cleaned up in a single day. This replacement is much nicer in appearance than original work when home was new. Also cools house better and has had a significant impact on the sense of humidity in our home. Further, they arranged 12 months same as cash financing which was greatly appreciated, especially for such a large and unexpected expense.
Description of Work: Our AC died on July 4th 2008. Called for service on Saturday, July 5th. Duron was at our home by 9:00 am. Pronounced unit DOA (we'd been nursing it along for a few years). Provided written estimate, and bandaid repair for short term. One week later they replaced air handler, exterior condenser, all electrical components and significant duct work.

The job went very smoothly. They coordinated the job with our roofing company and performed the work in a timely and efficient manner. They cleaned up afterwards and tested our a/c system to make sure the a/c unit was strong enough to cool the entire home. They performed an annual inspection of the a/c unit gratis and cleaned our air filter system. They told us they found no mold in the ductwork and that our a/c unit was in excellent condition and exceptionally clean. I have worked with Duron Smith A/C for the better part of 12 years. They are always prompt, efficient, courteous, honest, and perform quality work.
Description of Work: Report date was April 23, 2007. Work was done. We would hire them again. Approximate cost was $1400. Home was built in 1966. Our home had an old addition that had never been ducted for the central a/c unit. While our roof was being replaced, Duron Smith A/ ran new duct work into the addition. They also ran a/c ducting into our laundry and storage area that had never been air conditioned.
