Paul from Durham and Sons arrived on time as discussed. Reviewed the A/C situation and determined the water output lines were clogged. He cleaned them out and the house is cooling normally now.

Durham & Sons told me the dates they would be out to my home well in advance. One of the first things they did after I hired them was to add 2 additional loaner window AC units to my home until they had a chance to start work on the AC system replacement. They also sent out Durham & Sons co-founder who measured all internal dimensions of my home and all windows in order to later run through their calculator to determine whether the 4 Ton AC system was indeed appropriate. The results were dead-on and I assumed they would be based on RJ’s initial assessment (he really is that good). What impressed me was that most companies that give you dates typically slip those dates out as time goes on. However, Durham & Sons stuck to their schedule. They replaced the entire inside (garage) and outside (heatpump) units including the air-handler and box on the floor. They also went up in my attic and removed previous AC returns from the far reaching bedrooms and replaced with AC returns with much larger diameters. In addition, they replaced the inside thermostat, pulled a suction on the lines and filled the lines per Trane’s guidelines. The one other thing the crew had to do (because I was on travel when they came out) was to move stuff I had up in the attic out of the way in order to redo some of the ductwork (returns). After I returned from travel and saw everything they had to move, I felt guilty and wondered why they didn’t complain. Durham & Sons ran the new AC lines through the attic versus under the house; I thought this was odd at first but heard from others that this is preferred since the chase under the house typically will backfill with water and so the lines are eventually surrounded by a water jacket (not a good thing). Durham & Sons also removed the loaner AC window units prior to departure. Ironically, I would have never even known Durham & Sons did AC work had it not been for Angie’s List. They had stellar reviews which they certainly deserve. I would highly recommend them to anyone – they are a family owned and run business and take pride in their work.

Selected Durham & Sons from Angies List website list of electricians. Contacted at 4:00 pm yesterday, and they scheduled an estimator to visit between 9:00 and 10:00 this morning. Received a phone call from their office at 8:45 am to let me know Vince was en-route. Shortly after, Vince arrived, provided an estimate, and offered to do the job immediately. In about an hour, the job was completed in workmanlike fashion, very neatly and within the estimate provided. Vince was friendly, professional knowledgeable and efficient. I can't say enough overall about the Durham's responsiveness, professionalism and the value provided. And thanks to Angie's List, I've found an great electrician service I'll use for any future needs.

Office staff scheduling was very professional and prompt. Technician showed up as scheduled and did a thorough check and found the problem. He then called with a quote. They did the work as quoted. Did a very thorough job and explained the work performed. Not the cheapest, but sometimes you get what you pay for. I should have hired them on a time and material basis, but they did not offer that option and it seems HVAC people in Florida don’t work that way. They charge $89 per hour with a one hour minimum, plus parts, so would have been less expensive in my case. I was not solicited to enter any type of service plan, which seems to be a common tactic in Florida, so this firm came across more honest.

It went great. The installers were efficient, hard working, and worked long days in 93-95 degree temperature outside, in the garage, and even in the attic. They were very helpful in explaining the new system and showing us how to use and care for all parts of it. They did a excellent job, were polite, and friendly. They cleaned up every thing having to do with the installation, and our new systems looks great.

They came out on an emergency call and replaced the capacitor. They told me my unit was still under warranty and if I wanted to wait the following day it would be covered under warranty. They two guys that checked and fixed my unit were very friendly and also cleaned the drain line and gunk in the unit.

The R.J. Durham & Sons Cooling & Heating of Melbourne, FL is the most highly organized, professional, yet friendly company with which I have ever dealt! When Mr. R.J. Durham came to my house for the free estimate, he presented me with several Trane informational brochures which had wonderful, colored illustrations showing the interior of the air handler and the condenser. These brochures explained how my new Trane system would work and save me money. I was also given a proposal with the costs detailed. (Of course, I had previously done extensive research on the internet as to which brand AC would be the best as well as which dealer would be the best. Trane and R.J. Durham & Sons had both gotten 5 stars!!) After reading the proposal, brochures, and additional research, I decided to purchase the 18 SEER, 4 ton Trane, plus 10 yr. labor warranty to accompany the 12 yr. warranty on my compressor. So, we set a date. On the installation days, Dawna or Lisa, the cheerful secretaries, called me every morning to alert me that the men were “on their way.” The two installers were on time every day, and were very polite, professional, and friendly. At the end of every day, they cleaned their worksite completely and asked me if I had any “questions or concerns.” They worked hard, and very patiently explained things to me when I asked questions. Good-naturedly they did a couple of things I asked them to do—one was to cut away some branches that were encroaching on the condenser vents. Bottom line---they took pride in their work and did a beautiful job. I’ve been responsible for buying five AC’s in FL and in IL, but I was most surprised to see and impressed with R.J. Durham’s use of a separate electrician to do the wiring! To me, that was a sign of true professionalism and dedication to doing a job correctly. At the end, I was impressed by Tyler, an R.J. Durham final inspector, who made a couple of “suggestions” to the installers. Then, the job was finished. Another huge plus is the fact that R.J. Durham completes all the registration and warranty paperwork for their customers, thus eliminating any chance of the customers’ losing 100% benefit of their warranties (by not getting their paperwork mailed in within the time limit). Lastly, I must mention that R.J. Durham graciously let me borrow some window units while I waited for my Trane system to be installed---which kept me perfectly comfortable. Since I’ve had my new Trane system, I have been extremely comfy with the thermostat on 80 degrees, and I never know when it’s on, because it’s so quiet. I definitely give R.J. The two service techs were prompt, courteous and knowledgable. The unit took up less room, which was great in our garage. They unit was installed in 2 days and my garage and yard were clean of all debris. The office went out of the way to get the unit and permits done so I was not without AC during a warm spell. We have worked with Durham & Sons before, they are very professional, go out of the way to make sure the unit is adequate for your particular needs and keep up to date with the newest technology in HVAC.

We got 5 estimates on replacing our system before selecting Durham. RJ Durham came out and did a very comprehensive evaluation and proposal. They were not the cheapest and not the most expensive either, but they proposed a high end Trane system and RJ clearly described the system and options and why this was the right choice. Another contractor proposed an almost identical system but were slightly higher priced and not as thorough. The installation was done superbly. They took great care to do extra things to enhance the system performance and the entire crew was friendly, helpful and took great care in everything they did. I did have a concern about the compressor installation that I should have noted while they were installing but I did not, and Durham came right out and completely resolved it even though it meant an extra trip and several hours work. I was delighted with the responsiveness and willingness to make a customer happy. After 3 weeks, we are very happy with the system and every aspect of the Durham installation. BTW, the office staff is just as thorough, careful and helpful! They called every morning to remind us the crew was on the way, and sent us a very extensive package afterward with everything we needed to know and keep and detailed instructions on how to apply for the rebate. Durham and Sons did an excellent job installing my new Trane A/C. What stood out to me most about their work was the quality and attention to detail that their workers had throughout the entire installation process which took several days for the big job. RJ Durham came out for my initial estimate and he was impressively knowledgeable about certain aspects of the installation that other HVAC companies did not discuss with me. Their office staff always kept me informed of the scheduling with when the installation crew would arrive and the installers themselves did an excellent job. Riley and his partner were not only professional but also very courteous and friendly as well and answered all of the questions I had during the install. The new system works great and I'm looking forward to seeing the lower power bill in the summer time thanks to this new high efficiency unit and also because they did a great job repairing the old damaged duct work as well. These guys are professionals and I am highly recommending them to my friends and family for HVAC needs

Justin has been our A/C technician since we contacted Durham and Sons to address our initial A/C issues a couple years ago. At the first appointment he identified the issue right away and fixed the underlying cause that day. He also noticed that one of the A/C unit capacitors was measuring low, but told us honestly it would be fine for a little while. A couple maintenance checkup appointments later he told us we needed to replace the capacitor so we did. We have never had a problem with our A/C since the first appointment with Justin and have been satisfied with their service since.

The service provider was prompt, professional and very personable. He explained everything he was doing and even took a minute to play with my dog. The current visit was for routine maintenance but I have had the same service man (Mike) on previous visits for various problems and he was always able to fix any issues promptly and at a very fair price.

Durham and Sons Inc did an excellent job revitalizing our whole A/C system. Their team members are professional, conscientious, and very thorough. They replaced all of the components of the A/C system: the outdoor compressor, the indoor air handler and plenum, all of the attic ductwork, and, of course, all of the associated electrical connections including a fancy new thermostat that can be controlled remotely using the internet. Also included was the installation of an ultraviolet light in the air handler to improve air quality by killing mold spores. In addition, they added the components for a whole house surge protection system for protection of power, telephone, and cable/internet. The team went out of their way to ensure our satisfaction including working on either side of the Christmas Holiday to accommodate our availability. The owner made periodic visits during the work including an inspection on Christmas Eve after the primary work had been completed. During this inspection the owner determined that there were a few items that could be fine tuned to provide for a more perfect installation. So, this was scheduled and executed promptly after the Christmas weekend. We couldn't be happier with our new A/C system and every aspect of the effort put forth by Durham and Sons, Inc.

Durham's technicians were very professional, courteous and thorough. All questions were completely answered and they went out of their way to clear and clean their worksite each evening at the end of the workday. The entire installation required four days and we could not be more pleased with the attention to detail, professionalism and kindness extended to us during this installation... not to mention the personal touch of Durham's owners coming to our home several times to ensure all was proceeding well. We strongly encourage anyone considering a new A/C system to meet with Durham & Sons for a bid.

Our old AC unit's blower motor died and that started the process. Even before that we expected to replace the AC soon as it just couldn't keep up with the FL heat and humidity and always ran but never got the house really cool and dry. We already had used Durham previously to help keep the old unit going and they had done a good job. They put in a new blower motor right away to get it going again and we also had them give us estimates for replacing the whole AC/heat setup. We knew it was time to replace the entire AC/heat system. The estimate was for various prices and sizes with various additional add-ons. We picked a 17.5 SEER unit. It would take about 2 months before the install. In that time Durham let us keep the blower motor in the old unit at no cost (they would repurpose it when removed). Very nice of them as this was a ~$1400 part. The teardown and install was a big job and took a full 3 days plus a punch list day. The guys that did the work were very nice and I had no problems trusting them in my house with no one home. I simply left the side door open so they could get in and do the work. I did stop by home on the first day to see how things were going. They showed me everything they were doing and I felt comfortable. When done each day they did a good job cleaning up after themselves and getting rid of all the debris (I am picky about contractors cleaning up after themselves when done). The AC has been running great now for 3 days. The house is comfortable, humidity is low and the AC rarely runs. Did a punch list/walkthru today and both Durham and I agreed on all the things that needed touch up. The guys shows up about 2 hours later and got everything done but 1 item. They will return on Monday to finish up the outside fence and a small drain area. So far, we are very satisfied with the new AC unit, the folks at Durham and the price.

An excellent company that performed all work in a high quality manner. The work area was kept cleaned up at the end of every work day.

It went very, very well. They even took extra time and re-built the air handler and air exchanger area in the garage, The follow up has been great including a hand written card from RJ himself. It's really great when you can find a local company like this.

Excellent performance requires well-designed and manufactured HVAC equipment, installation of plena and duct works to provide uniform & adequate air supply and return, and attention to detail in installation. Of these 3 things, two are determined by the installer. I found Durham and Sons to be very knowledgeable in design of the installation (in this case a replacement and upgrading of duct work), committed to quality of the installation, and respectful of the aesthetics of the home they are working in. Pricing was fair, well-defined, fully described, and at time of installation there were no last minute nickel and dime games, they were on time, and created as little disturbance as possible. They do not cut corners at the expense of the homeowner to make prices look artificially good and represent best value of several brands and installers I considered. We first had an upstairs unit replaced, and then followed that with the downstairs unit. We were happy with both. They were thorough in planning the job, proactive in working cost issues with duct work upgrades, did what they said they would do when they said they would, and the installed system is excellent. There is a very noticeable improvement due to the superior dehumidification capability of the Trane units and upgraded air distribution. We are particular about the appearance of our home both inside and outside, and they worked with us to ensure high quality aesthetics along with the functional quality. We highly recommend them.

Outstanding. None of us want to have to spend the money to replace our whole AC system, unfortunately ours needed it. Durham & Son's came out for an estimate, were very thorough in explaining how AC's function, what tonnage was really necessary, and explained all other aspects of what was needed. They provided a quote, that in some cases was higher than other quotes I recieved. However I decided to use Durham & Sons because they provided a better system for the price, they took more time with me as a homeowner explaining the system and what needed to be done as well as how the replacement would go once started. They showed up when promised, and in fact fit me in more quickly than anticipated. The crew was great, kept my home cleaned up, and the installation when as promised! Once the system was in they took time to walk me through all details of the system operation, use of the new digital thermostat, and then followed to make sure all was well. Highly recommend the Durham & Sons team!!

Vince, from Durham, was very courteous and professional. He made an initial visit to see if our outside power entry panel would accommodate the protection device. Once confirmed, we had a prompt installation on a second visit. We feel better protected knowing our entire home now has a strong, first level of defense to electrical spikes and voltage surges. Highly recommend this service.

They were easy to work with. The unit was installed exactly as explained. No mess left, easy to communicate with regarding operating questions. Installers were efficient and professional.

I contacted Durham and Sons after having major problems with a different company. So, I am very happy that this was such a great experience. They provided and installed a new a/c condensing unit. They did everything they said they would do - when they said they would do it. Throughout the process I spoke with several employees and each was very professional, responsive, and most importantly competent. I purchased a maintenance agreement with them because I am confident I will continue to receive the same high level of service I have received to date.

They did a decent job installing the outlet in the master bathroom. However, the lights pull down when I use the outlet so I'm very careful when using the outlet. Other than that it seems to be working fine. The inspector came out to approve the amp for our RV. He appeared to be a little surprised of how it was done. The amp does work like a 50 amp should. When they installed the outlet on the porch, they cut the foam insulation wall in the attic to add the outlet into the porch saffit. However, they didn't put the insulation back the way they found it and left about a 2 foot gap in the foam wall. My husband and I did not discover the gap until later.

Everything went as they stated in the proposal. Installers were punctual and courteous. They provided room air conditioners when they removed the old system so we were comfortable during the installation of the new one which took two days. The final clean up was very good and their tutorial of our new digital thermostat was greatly appreciated.
