Response from Durham and Sons Inc
Final inspection of the both air conditioning systems have been completed by the Brevard County Building Department. In fact, it is noted by the inspector the homeowner refused to complete the mandatory duct sealing. At the time of this install, it was a State of Florida law that all duct systems had to be inspected, and where needed, all ducts sealed if leaking. The Angies List member WAS made aware of this on the contract. It is clearly stated on the contract that the homeowner needed to contact their utility company and have a blower door test done. Once that was completed, we could price out separately any further work that needed to be done. They had the duct system tested and it showed numerous leaks. Despite our office asking repetitively for a copy of the report leading up to and during the installation, the member did not give us the report until the last day of the job. When we saw the report, we told the homeowner the sealing had to be completed before the inspection was called in, the member said his friend would do it. The end result was the friend would not do it and the sealing was never done. The inspector was made aware of this fact, and he passed the inspection of the two a/c systems we installed, noting the homeowner refused to comply with the duct sealing requirement that was on our contract. RJ Durham visited the jobsite daily. All vents were placed exactly where they were supposed to be. The contract specifies the French drain will be 2’ x 2’. It is simply a means for the discharge water to evaporate easier at the surface. Most contractors don’t even do this, but we do it as a courtesy so the homeowners don’t have standing water next to their house, which can attract termites and such. If the gravel is not 2x2, we will gladly send someone out to make sure it is. At the end of one year, we give all install customers a one year free check-up, which was completed 3 weeks ago. The a/c’s were working perfectly, and the homeowner made no complaints to our technician that was onsite.
