Of the 5 contractors invited to bid for our AC installation, RJ, of Durham and Sons, was the most informative and thorough. He outlined and explained the installation process. The Durham and Sons employees, Clayton and Eddie worked tirelessly to finish the job in 3 days. They brought 3 window units to insure we stayed cool throughout the process. The work was completed in such a professional manner. All my questions, which were many, were answered politely. They did a magnificent job. I would heartily recommend Durham and Sons to anyone who needs to replace a air conditioner

Everything went extremely well. All the personnel acted in a professional manner and was quite helpful with answers to my questions. They were here three full days and did not waste any time getting the job done.

All was completed as promised. When we contracted with Durham and Son they told us that they were a month behind on installations. They called us when they thought they'd be able to start our work. Later in the week they asked if they could start one day later or on Monday the next week. We said we wanted them to start as soon as possible. They indicated it would take three days. They had our unit installed in two and running. They came back on Monday to complete tuning the system. We have been very happy with the results. Our electric bill appears to be lower than previous unit but we haven't had a bill since the installation.

We called on Durham and Sons to update an electrical panel that we had to replace prior to closing on the purchase of our house. -- They came out quickly, were very courteous, and did a thorough update of our electric panel.

The new ducts are leaking all over my ceiling. They keep coming back to re-wrap the attic cans that are leaking. They didn't give me all the information that was needed when they sold me the new ducts. Now they are claiming that my ceilings are too narrow, and it's the worst attic space they've seen in 10 years. I relied on their integrity & knowledge on what needed to be done and now I'm having to deal with calling them 3 times so far - due to leaky ducts. I expected the quality of work on their quote but it's been a disaster! I wouldn't recommend them to anyone!

They were fabulous. They installed extra ducts, outside units and air handlers. The whole time working with them they were very courteous. They called before they came. They were very thorough in their work. They did everything they promise and I was confident in my decision in choosing them.

Having known of Durham & Sons for over 30 years this was our first for a new HVAC unit from them and I must admit that I would refer them to anyone in need of service or a new AC system. The owner, RJ Durham came out and gave us an estimate to replace our existing 15 year old Trane unit with a top of the line unit Trane XL20 system. He offered suggestions to reduce cost such as the coupon offered on Angie's List, Trane trade in rebate, FPL rebate, as well as a cash discount. Durham and Sons has always had a quality reputation and our installation was of the highest quality with professionals that paid attention to our needs, questions and craftsmanship. The installers were young technicians that had the professional experience needed and did an excellent job even testing the flow of the duct work system. There was a supervisor that stopped by once a day to check on progress and provide support if needed. The installation crew also would clean the work space as the installation progressed and made sure it was clean at the end of each day. A seal of quality to the entire project was the comments made by the Palm Bay inspector "Another quality Durham & Son's installation". Not well. After finding out the starter was bad, the technician stated he would contact me once he found out the price of a replacement starter. He finally contacted me almost 3 weeks later and said he was still waiting on pricing info. I will not use them again.

Although it was an expensive project, it was well worth it! All the technicians were amazing and very professional! I am very happy with their work. They were very punctual and clean. They were very specific and thorough when going over my options with me for different types of units. There was no high pressure sales at all. It ended up being a large job, and they actually had to remove a portion of a wall. But they did excellent work. Durham & Sons even helped me make sure I had all proper documentation for the inspectors. They were true gentleman. I can't say enough about them. You should also know that when Durham first came to my home, they brought me a temporary a/c unit so my home was comfortable and not too hot.

This was the third time using Durham and Sons for my HVAC needs. Two of the times I used them was for new HVAC units. The 1 time was to move a new unit from an old address to a new address when I moved. I did not want to leave a great unit at an old house I was selling. Each time I have used Durham and Sons the quality improved. The installers were a young crew but had the experience needed. They were great fabricators, had a minor issue wiring the thermostat that was quickly remedied with a reference to the installation manual. There was senior installer oversight that would stop by and assist from time to time. The electrician was top notch and really knew his stuff. The crew would clean their work space as they went along and made sure it was clean at the end of each day. I rated the cost a B because I purchased a top of the line unit Trane XL20 matched system which is expensive. RJ offered suggestions to reduce cost such as the coupon offered on Angie's List, FPL rebate, as well as a cash discount. Otherwise, RJ always offers a fair price for the top-of-the-line work performed and is in-line with current costs in the area. He has always taken care of my HVAC needs over the years and was always prompt with the service provided. He really knows how to take care of his customers. Durham and Sons goes the extra mile as compared to what I've heard from neighbors who have used other contractors. This is why I will continue to use Durham and Sons in the future. Always stick with a provider you trust and takes care of you. Of the best things to note about this installation, and also a nod to the installation crew, was the comment made by the building inspector after his inspection. He said "it doesn't get any better than that!". Great job guys! Thanks RJ.

They came out, found the problem, ordered the part, returned and replaced the part. Set the A/C so we did not loose use of it.

We purchased a new Trane system (XL18i a/c heat pump & TAM8 air handler) and also added one additional return line plus four new supply ducts and registers. These guys were excellent, punctual and very professional. They were constantly cleaning up after themselves in the 3 days they were at our home. Their work is neat and well done. We obtained bids from three different contractors, including the one that had installed our last system 11 years ago. Durham was better in every aspect -- including cost -- for exactly the same equipment and more extras. I have already recommended to friends and co-workers.

great job. A/C working great. Workers were efficient, polite, and professional, and cleaned up after themselves on a daily basis. Only issue was the delay before they could start. Our A/C stopped working so we were without the central unit for several weeks before the new one could be installed by Durham. However, they supplied temporary window units at no charge to provide basic cooling in the interim before they could install the new unit.

Durham and Sons were very responsive to our needs. When our A/C failed, they came out quickly to diagnose the problem. They offered four different units with different prices. They didn't push the most expensive solution...they said it probably wasn't worth the extra money for the small increase in efficiency. After talking to us about some cooling issues within the house, we also decided to do some work with the air ducts and returns to provide better air flow to certain rooms. Since it would be several weeks before the new unit could be installed, they installed a working outer unit to keep our house cool during the work. The total job, which included the new outer unit, air handler, furnace, two new air returns and several expanded air ducts, required three full days. They provided us with two window units to keep the bedroom and office cool during the job. The workers worked past 6pm two of the days so they could finish the day's work and complete the job on schedule. Every person we met and talked to from Durham and Sons were friendly, helpful, and very professional. While new A/C units are quite expensive, we felt we got a good value. The rooms that were always hot because of running office equipment and poor air flow are now very comfortable. We were very pleased at this job.

Jerry was great, showed up on time with a smile on his face, and did the job quickly, within under an hour. Can't say enough good about him. Refunded the service fee we knew nothing about, and fixed the detectors to set each other off as the city wanted. (((Deleted the negative portion of the review since the owner Dana took appropriate action. Unfortunate it had to happen that way, but satisfied with the overall response.))) Jerry is a huge asset to the company!

Showed up on time each day. Explained what they were going to do every day. Cleaned up at the end of each day. Very professional, friendly, knowledageable. Project went a scheduled and on time.A great exoerience.

Vince was very knowledgable and pleasant. Company kept me informed when Vince was delayed by another job. Very easy to deal with. Lisa was great with scheduling around our requirements. Our new go-to electrician.

For the fluorescent lights, I did not even ask for an estimate. I asked them to come do the job for me. They charged an hourly rate, pro-rated in 15-minute blocks. The electrician arrived on time, completed the job in a timely manner with excellent quality, and I was entirely happy with it. I paid $222.50 on 5/31/13. When I was in a time crunch to get some significant work done in response to the home inspection, I naturally called Durham & Sons. The same electrician came out and did an estimate. Although he had to work up the exact quote back at the office, I asked for a very rough ballpark figure so I could figure it into my overall budget. I asked if if would likely be more like $1000 or $5000 or $10,000. I said I knew it was not binding. It seemed easy for him to let me know they could do it comfortably for $1200. I was so relieved, and I went on worry about other problems because this one was "under control". When I received the official quote a few days later, it came in at $2500 (more than double) with lots of fine print that explained how it could become even more. I was short on time, and this disgusted me. I called Grand Electric and their estimate was $1500, and they really helped me out of a bind by coming on time and completing the job without a single problem or added expense. In fact they found a way to save me about $50, plus gave me a 10% Angie's List discount on labor. I describe this more fully on an entry under Grand Electric. If Durham & Sons did not want to do the work, they could have just told me.

Two techs show up as scheduled,with several visits from a supervisor.When the job is complete Mr Durham showed up to inspect the job .

All is working fine now. They came in a timely fashion, did their work professionally, were informative, and polite.

Update: I received a phone call from one of the owners Darla Carter after I wrote this review on Angie's list. She was extremely apologetic and offered to sent out her team to fix the problem. She said sometimes communication breaks down and that her office thought that I was calling for a service call. She said that I should escalate to the Managers immediately if I was not getting the service I needed. I understand that this is the busiest time for AC companies and that their phone lines were over loaded and that their Office Staff was overwhelmed and it was clear to me that they could not handle the volume of calls that were coming in. I used another company from Angie's list and they came out within 30 minutes of my call and fixed the problem within the hour so I had AC back on again. I have used Durham and Sons before and I have never had this issue. They are a very reputable company and all the technicians and especially their electricians are outstanding. I will say that the people who answer the phone must pay attention to what customers are requesting or this company may need more Staff to answer the phone lines. I sincerely appreciate the phone call from Darla Carter - it made a world of difference that she cared enough to call me. She was extremely professional, courteous, and concerned. I will be very careful with the people who answer the phone in the future should I decide to use this company again. Original Review: They committed to 3 appointments - did not show up for 2 of them and called to say that they would not come for the 3rd appointment. With no AC in the part of the house where we slept and with temperatures in the 90's I realized that they were never going to come out; that the women who answered the phone were overwhelmed with the calls coming in and wrote down the information incorrectly. They were even recommending a service plan which caused the problem since we were put down for service and not for having no AC. We took time from work to wait for the service people and they never showed up 3 times. The women who answer the phone were overwhelmed and it was clear that they could not handle the volume of phone calls.

The whole experience was so easy and quick. I went ahead and purchased a premium contract in addition to placing my order for the spare parts needed as I was so impressed with the responsiveness and professionalism of the technician Greg.

Best electrician ever. A textbook case of professional svc delivered by, Jerry, who was very personable as well. Jerry arrived early and went right to work. He worked neatly and quietly after I explained what needed to be done. All old lighting, boxes, etc., were completely removed and taken away. All my questions were answered thoroughly. I will use this company again. And again.

We called Durham & Sons to install new security lights on the side of our house which required running new wiring through the attic. In addition, we wanted to replace the coach lights that flank our garage. They called back promptly and sent someone out the next day to discuss the job and provide an estimate. The estimate was for $375.00 which was basically just labor as we would provide the lights. We agreed to the estimate and Vince came out a couple days after. He installed the security lights but couldn't replace the coach lights as they had to be ordered. Next week, after the new coach lights arrived, Vince came back out to install them. He also adjusted the sensitivity and position of the security lights as well. He did the job for the estimated $375.00 which took 2 trips and about 3 hours of labor. A few years back, we also used them to repair the connections in the meter box that fused due to a lightning strike. They came out after-hours to make the repairs quickly since FP&L disconnected our power due to the unsafe condition of our meter box connections. We were without power for 1/2 a day but it could have been longer without Durham & Sons responsiveness. Durham & Sons are very responsive, professional and knowledgable. They get the job done with the right parts quickly. We highly recommend them for your electrical repairs and service.
