This was an emergency call. The water pump providing running water to the house (well water) had tripped a breaker the night before. We had no water. There was a short. It was raining. Suspecting water intrusion, because the circuit was able to stay on after the rain dried up. Mr. Sparky answered my call in a matter of minutes on a Friday. They were very attentive and polite, and came out right away. Others would not be able to come for a few days. So I hired them. The tech showed up on time, wore a mask as he should (COVID-19 time), was again very polite, and repaired the wiring the best he could. He seems to have done a fine job. Why then would I not hire them again and gave them a B? They are fairly overpriced. They charged $298. It took about 1 hour to do the work at most, plus all the time spent discussing the job. He even quoted almost $900 total to add 2 more similar connections in the same area, Had the price been reasonable, I would have gone for it. By comparison, a day later an HVAC company sent 2 guys on a Saturday, spent at least 2 hours fixing my AC and charged almost half what Mr. Sparky charged for cleaning up an electrical contact. So, if promptness and politeness is a priority for you and you are in a jam like I was, Go ahead and hire these guys. They will do a fine job. Just expect to pay more. Otherwise I would advise you shop around for more reasonably priced electricians.

Visit was too pushy. I was shown monthly payments before being told the total cost ($6,100). They never told me that they were not bidding on a 200 amp service, which was what I wanted, they never did liad calculations, they saud they would do something two other electricians have said was impossible and unsafe (install tankless hot water heater on 125 amp service). Price seems really out of line for replacing the breaker panel and running a water heater line. I asked for a quote on installing a line for a towel warmer, a 125 watt appliance, and was told $400, which again seems way too high for something pretty simple.

When I requested a quote on this site, Byron called me within about a minute. Great so far. He said he'd send someone out the next morning and it would be $19 for an estimate. He also said I would not be subject to any additional charges without first being asked if I wanted to proceed. Joseph Fischer came the next day and had to do a fair amount of troubleshooting. Then he pulled out his tablet and began calculating how much it would be to replace the exterior circuit breaker, timer, wiring to both, plus hooking everything up to the pump. It came to $1,800 on the low end (more extensive work would have been more). When I balked he said he'd already been out for some time and estimated that I'd already run up about $500 in charges. Nowhere in between my phone call with Byron and Joseph hitting me with the $500 figure was additional cost discussed. At that point I wanted to get 1-2 other quotes but knowing that those other quotes would have to be less than about $1,000 to make sense, I was placed in a position that I'd been told would not happen. In addition, Joseph said he would connect a surge protector I owned to prevent damage. But: It wasn't until the very end that he said he could not connect the surge protector because 1) I needed a 30-amp circuit breaker to attach to it and 2) I didn't have any more room in my breaker panel. Well, why would he assume up front that I had a spare 30-amp breaker (who does)? Why would he promise to attach the surge protector when he had to know there was no room on the breaker panel -- which he had spent a fair amount dealing with when he first arrived? In fairness, I will say the work itself seems fine and he did take time to make sure everything was correctly linked to the pump. But overall, at a time when we all are in an economic pinch, I feel like I was taken advantage of. Compounding matters, I have left two messages for Byron, several days have gone by, and I have not gotten the courtesy of a return call.

They were polite, on time and professional; however, the estimate for the work excluding parts was >$4k and we chose another smaller company with less overhead and 1/4 price.

Such an upsell. I requested that an aged 20 amp breaker be replaced. Also requested a simple GFI plug be replaced and a Nest thermostat installation. I figured all three could be done in 90 minutes or less. Expected to pay $250-$300. The technician arrived on time and immediately starts pulling out all of the breakers clearly looking for something (later I discover he is looking for burn marks but can’t find any) after he walks around looking over everything he starts asking me questions that are irrelevant to the items I need fixed. Then he presents me with three options on his iPad with the first being $10,000 — are you kidding me? After another 10 minutes or so, he offers a price of $485 to install thermostat and replace 20 amp breaker. When I say no to that then he offers $401 to replace the GFI and 20 amp breaker. Telling me that to replace my thermostat is $249 because it is a $300 thermostat. I asked him why does the cost of my provided thermostat even matter — it’s still on 4 wires! Needless to say, I refused all work after the ridiculous UPSELL. I called another certified electrician and got all three items done in 60 minutes for $120 including the parts (GFI and 20 amp breaker) sorry Mister Sparky you were a total and complete fail. The absolutely only reason I gave a “D” and not an “F” is he showed up on time.

Went ok, but the installer lied about the smoke alarms he installed - told me they could be hooked up to an alarm system, but I found out later that they can't. He also left no manuals or instructions on what to do if they went off. Quite disappointed.

The guy that sold the job was great but the work preformed is horrible. I may have to take legal actions against this company if we do not have some sort of resolution. The finished product looks horrible and not even complete. I wish I could up load the photos. I sent and email to company with no response. They were supposed to pull permits to do the job and that was never done. I’m sure that is a violation of code.

The breaker to my pool pump tripped and wouldn't turn back on. I had a guy coming to check the pump motor but wanted an electrician to check the breaker. I wound up having 2 techs from Mr Sparky come here so will review each of them. The first guy, Robert, was supposed to give us a free estimate for fixing the problem if it was electrical. He pulled the AC breaker and said it was burned, but didn't pull the pump breaker. Said he had no idea why the breaker wouldn't turn on. He charged me $167 for 'diagnostics' which consisted of looking at the wires to the for pump switches, removing the pump motor end cap to look at those wires, and opening the stone catcher basket (no idea why). Back inside, the pump breaker DID turn on, but again, he didn't know why. Turned the pump on but it shut off - twice. Then he sat at my table tapping on his tablet and ignoring me for 10-15 minutes as I stood there with my credit card, waiting to pay the $167. Finally he showed me 3 options on his tablet; one to replace all the breakers and 2 choices for installing a new breaker box outside, pricing up to $10K. We passed... When he left I looked at the troubleshooting manual for the pool pump. It said if the motor shuts off check for low voltage or power drop. So I called their office, explained the situation, and tried to get Robert to come back to check the voltage at the pump. Robert called me back but refused to return. When the office called later to see if I was happy with the service I explained it all and they scheduled another tech, Chris, to come the next day. Chris was very polite, respectful and professional. He checked the voltage at the pump (which was fine) and agreed we should replace the old breakers and add a surge protector, but said there was no need to spend $10K to put the breaker box outside. He said the AC breaker was NOT burned, but he did see evidence of old wires causing arcing as well as the wrong size breaker in one spot, and pointed out that we should have 2 ground rods outside besides grounding to the water main. (Robert never mentioned these) Chris did a much more thorough job of checking everything and it was all included in the $167 I had already paid. The difference between these two techs was such that I actually wondered if it was a "good cop/bad cop" ploy so I would believe what the "good" guy said and happily purchase service from him. If it was, it worked. We had Chris come back to replace all the old breakers, install a surge protector, and put in the grounding rods. Total cost was a little over $3K. As for appointment times.. The first appointment was set for 2-6 pm and they said the tech would call to let me know when he was on his way, which he did. The second appointment was 12-4 pm but he didn't call ahead, saying his ipad wouldn't let him make the call. The third appointment was supposed to be afternoon also but the email I received gave the time as 8 am - 6 pm. I called their office and the guy I spoke with said he'd add a note that I wouldn't be home until 2 pm. So with no call ahead of time I was surprised when Chris and his helper came to my door at noon. Not a big issue (as it would have been if they'd arrived at 8 am) but good to note if scheduling is important to you. The office staff is very friendly and makes you feel as though customer satisfaction is a priority. I didn't bother having another company come out to give me a quote so I can't say whether their pricing was high, low or average. But at least I know we have all new breakers now plus proper grounding and a surge protector, and I feel confident that Chris did all the work properly. Overall, I would have given Mr Sparky an F rating based on my experience with Robert, and still deducted one letter because of him. But if Chris had been the only tech we saw I would have rated them an A.
