My fence was installed before the last set of major storms. Before the storms came, the fence started to lean and the gate stopped working properly. I have pictures and witnesses that this was shortly after it was installed and he was paid in full. Steve, the owner, put in writing that he would come and straighten the fence and cement by the gate, since it is not closing properly. This company does not answer the phone and does not respond to emails. I am having to hire another company to complete the work, so the permit will pass inspection. I will be taking them to small claims court when I get the work completed properly.
Description of Work: I had them remove an old fence that was leaning and install new fencing and two gates. They pulled the permit, but it will not pass as it is leaning over and the gate doesn't work properly.

The owner was good at giving me the contract and estimating the job. Once the job started was when the issues started. The owner never showed up the job site. He could not find the back property marker on the north site and guessed at the property line. he went ahead and installed the fence into the lake easement and now we have had to hire another company to move the fence. The gate was installed and the dogs were able to push through it. They had to come back 3 times to get that fixed. The workers did not speak English so they could not articulate with us. They were contractors so he told us that he needed to get them in and out quickly. He gave us a hard time getting them back to fix the gate. They left a mess. He told me to just put some water on the mess or let it rain and it would eventually wash away. The problem was that there were rocks and boulders from the holes that were all over my backyard. It was a fight to get him to come back and remove the rocks. He did not remove it well so we hired a contractor to do that. When we approached him about moving the fence, he refused. Since we paid with a check, we have no leverage. We are finally filing a law suit and hired a new fence company to move it for us. TERRIBLE AND DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!!

Awful, awful This contractor is a rip off artist. He forces you to pay in full before calling in for the final on the permit. Then when his work doesn't pass, he never comes back and wont return any calls. he did this to several other people in my area. Its just a con job!!!!
Description of Work: Contractor was to build a small fence in my back yard . He took my money up front didn't finish the job, didn't do it correctly and would not properly close out the permit. I found out he had lots of similar complaints against him when I spoke to the people in permitting. Then he was rude and laughed when I threatened to take him to court and said lots of luck. He never came back or would call in the permit until he was paid in full . Then it didn't pass inspection and he refuse to come back and fix the job.

Response from PICK-IT FENCE
I was hired to pull a permit for a fence she had partially installed by an unlicensed contractor and to finish installing pick-its on the inside of 2 fence lines left uncompleted by a handyman. I took a 50% deposit and balance upon completion of the work. The fence failed first inspection due to work not performed by Pick-It Fence. My contract specifically read we are not responsible for work that was previously done. Fence has since passed inspection and permit is closed out.

We decided to go with him and before he started the process we contacted him with some modifications we wanted to make. He gave us a new estimate and we asked if it included the concrete. He said that it is not required by code in Palm Beach County to use concrete. We wanted the fence to be installed with concrete though so it wouldn't be affected by hurricanes. He said he would get back with my husband with a new price for the concrete and he still hasn't gotten back with us. We have called every day since we last heard from him and he has not gotten back with us. We have also emailed and again nothing. We gave him an $1,100 deposit and he will not get back with us. At this point, I would like my deposit back because I do not want to work with him.

I provided the customer with an estimate as requested, when the new amount was too much the deposit was returned minus the cost for permitting as it was already submitted.

OK, here's the background. In 2006 Pick-It Fences was contracted to install a pool fence enclosure to replace a screened enclosure that was lost (for the second time) during Hurricane Wilma. Fast forward to March of 2013. We're cited by the Village of Wellington for failure to close the construction permit issued in '06. Turns out the final inspection was never performed. I'll give Pick-It the benefit of the doubt as to whose responsibility it was to arrange for that inspection. What I find unconscionable, however, is the owner's (a Mr. Steven LaMour) repeated failure to return phone messages left both on voicemail and with an assistant. Also failed to answer a very detailed email in which I explained what was going on and stressed the urgency of the matter, as we were facing fines of up to $500/day if the permit wasn't renewed and the final inspection wasn't passed by a certain date. Since the deadline was fast approaching and I still hadn't heard from Mr. LaMour of Pict-It (apparantly the only one with the authority to make any decision), I started dealing with Laura Marchant from the Village of Wellington's Building Department. She was WONDERFUL!!!! She explained what my options were and said we could handle everything via email. One of the options she indicated was available was to renew the permit with myself as an owner/contractor. Same $70 renewal fee would apply and, again, it could all be handled via email. Finally heard from Pict-It's owner about a week before the deadline for work completion. He offered no apology for the delay in getting back to me over a 6-week period (which consisted of at least once-per-week contacts on my part). What he did say was that not only would I have to pay the renewal fee, but also an additional $150 for him to have someone go to City Hall in order to renew the permit. He then said he wouldn't take any action until I mailed him a check for the $220 and it cleared his account. He went on to state that if the fence failed to pass inspection, I would have to pay for whatever was necessary to bring it up to code. Now, here's the thing. If I, as nothing more than a private owner, could both change myself to an owner/contractor AND renew the permit without having to visit City Hall, doesn't it stand to reason that Mr. LaMour ? who only needed to renew the permit ? could have done so without having to send someone to do it in person? In fact, there's a section of the Village of Wellington's website that is for contractor use only. Since I can't access that area, I admit I'm making assumptions, but I think it's pretty darn likely that one of the options offered in that section is to renew and/or extend permits. Given that assumption, my conclusion is that the the $150 he claimed he was going to have to pay "someone" to renew the permit in person was going directly into his pocket. But... maybe I'm wrong. Even if that's the case, I certainly take exception to being told that, should the fence HE installed fail to pass inspection, I would have to pay additional costs in order to bring it into compliance. Hello? Is it just me or does it seem to others that, after paying him many, many thousands of dollars to do the fence work in '06, that expecting me to pony up additional money should it prove not to be in compliance to code is just... well... whacked? Oh, by the way, just to be clear, the applicable code hasn't been changed since 2003... which was THREE YEARS before my fence was constructed. Needless to say, my dealings with Mr. LaMour ended with our first, last and ? God willing ? last conversation. I changed myself to the owner/contractor, got the permit renewed and had the fence inspected. At this point, it should come as no surprise that the fence, in fact, wasn't in complete compliance with the code. Fortunately, I was able to correct the violations myself with "only" an approximate oulay of $200 and one very hard days work. I can only wonder what Mr. LaMour would have charged ME to correct HIS failures....

Contractor arrived on time with all materials. Work area was kept clean and fence was installed within a few hours.
Description of Work: We chose "premium grade" PVC material for 6' tall, 80' long fence with lattice top and one swinging door. We also ordered optional post caps that were a few dollars more. The price was in line with other estimates. The price for the same fence in standard grade was $1000 less. Fence was measured, ordered and installed within two weeks. One minor straightening adjustment was needed on one post and that was done quickly and to my complete satisfaction.

They did a pretty good job. They were very professional. They charged $1800, it was great. They showed up on time. They did it and when they were done they said, please take a look at it and pay us, which we did; it was the simplest thing I ever did. They just showed up, built it, did a beautiful job, no haggling with anything. They were just very reliable and professional. The fence looks great. I did recommend them to someone.
Description of Work: I used Pick-It Fence. We did a very large gate; a big heavy-duty gate with a steel welded frame.
