+ -1 moreOnce I let him in to make the repair he saw that I had bought the module (which by the way he said is a standard part he has on his truck) he added that it would have cost me about $90 more had I not picked it up already. He then snapped the part in place, used wire cutters to clear the fried wires and put a standard new wire kit on it. He wrapped it with electrical tape and put a couple plastic covers on the connection. The total repair time was less then 5 minutes and he handed me a bill for $225 on top of the $75 already charged and it was not applied as stated which I should have ask for in writing. Had I known a wire kit was all I needed I could have saved myself well over $200. I am a single woman who will go buy an auger to open a plugged toilet on my own before I'll pay an over priced plumber $200 to use a $40 auger I now own. Now that I know how to fix a burned out connection on a refrigerator I will never be bent over like that again either. No one at Sears could give me a straight answer to any questions I had, no one was truly helpful and they charged me more money then a master mechanic. The repair was so simple it flat out made me very unhappy to have been taken advantage of like that. It will never happen to me again!!! Overall it took too many days, the call center was not in touch with the field repair personnel. It was tremendously difficult to get the information I needed or the proper part for the repair. I would not recommend Sears for large appliance repair.
Description of Work: Angie's List has listed two other services I called to repair my refrigerator however they did not service the South Lake Tahoe area no one local could help me either based in South Lake who does repair. So I called a trusted name Sears Appliance repair. This was the 1st of Oct and they could not fit me in until Oct 9th for a service call between 8 am and noon. I had no other option so I gave them my credit card for a $75 deposit for the service call and was told that if repairs were made that would be applied. Mind you this was just to assess the problem it did not guarantee the refrigerator would be fixed. So in order to make sure I took it upon myself to get the part number on the fried module and make sure the needed item would be available. The Reno location did not have the part and would charge me $85+ for shipping from Sacramento for it so I drove there myself and bought it at their part store for $67.00 and burned the gas to get it so I saved nothing but at least I had the part. Being without a refrigerator for over a week is tough on a family and so far I was about $175 into the repair between the appointment cost gas and the part needed. The day before I called the service center and asked if they could have the repair man call me when he was on his way to Tahoe from Reno or Carson. They said they could not and had no connection with dispatch. I could not request a call from the service technician so he showed up at 9 am and I was at work in Carson City. Because he could not call first and I could not miss work from my own job just to wait on him between 8 to 12. He had to sit there for 35-40 minutes until I could drive back to the lake and let him into my home.
