The Pella Window products of today are not even close to the quality of the Pella Windows I bought in the early '80s. The company does mot stand behind their product!
Description of Work: We need to replace two damaged screens on our Pella Windows. Pella will not replace the screening or sell us the screening. Pella will only SELL us the whole new screen @ $397 each. The paint along the edge of an exterior Pella Door has worn completely through the primer coat due to the oils from hands. The Pella tech stated this should not have happened on the quality of door we purchased. His solution was to order a tiny bottle of touch up paint that i was to apply. This bottle would not begin to cover the area where the paint & primer has worn off.

I am very sorry that you have had a frustrating experience with your Pella product and I would be happy to speak to you personally regarding our product and warranty coverage. Please call me (Ben Piper) at 407-205-2075. I do not see a record of Pella having installed your product so please let me know if you had it installed by others or directly through Pella. That can affect the warranty. You are correct that we can replace the entire screen on almost any Pella product installed in the last 60 years, but we do not pull screen material out and replace only the mesh. I would be happy to help you find a hardware store near your home that can do that for a few dollars. Regarding the paint - since I do not have record of the installation I don't know if it was sold to you pre-finished or unfinished. And you are correct that dirty hands and sunlight and other factors affect the longevity of paint. All of our standard Pella colors can be purchased through Sherwin Williams, and if your door was pre-finished from our factory I would be happy to reimburse you for the material cost to repaint your door frame. Again, I apologize for the frustration you have experience, and we would love the opportunity to resolve any remaining issues. Ben Piper 407-205-2075 piperbj@pella.com

i have spent many $1,000's replacing the windows in my house. Albeit the last one just over 10 years ago, and out of warranty. I have a leak around one of them now, and wanted an estimate on repair. They wanted to charge me a service call fee of $150.00

Installed in one day. We plan to use them for the remaining windows in the future.
Description of Work: We had most of the windows in our home replaced. We have very high ceilings and tall windows. We live on a lake in North Florida connected to the Atlantic Ocean and had to have tempered glass on the water side. Good workmanship and great windows. They really have made a difference in the coolness of the rooms, although we haven't gone through a Florida summer with them yet.

The process from the first scheduled date of the replacement work was not much short of disaster. Installation was delayed two weeks because of production problems at the factory. (?) Damaged product (one half of the windows were inferior (debris between the thermopanes) that had to be reordered and reinstalled, several screens were torn and had to be replaced or reordered, one sliding glass door assembly was re-ordered TWICE due to damage and both screen doors had to be reordered due to flaws in the frame. The caulking to seal the windows was the "wrong" caulk and was to be "removed and replaced" which turned out to be "apply different caulk over the top of the it" - apparently Pella's interpretation of "remove and replace" (Pella's phraseology, nor mine). The removal of the old windows and doors caused excessive damage to the stucco/colorcrete and was repaired by Pella. The job was to take three (3) days and be completed in November of 2011. The final work was not completed until March 2012 - four (4) months later. Perhaps more hands-on participation by Pella employees instead of just turning the job over to subcontractors may have prevented some of this delay, certainly it would have alleviated some of my frustration, distrust and disgust with Pella Windows and Doors.
Description of Work: Replacement windows (13) and sliding glass doors (2), all with screens, in private residence, contracted for on 3/14/11 from Pella Windows and Doors, 350 State Road 434 West, Longwood, FL 32750.

I am very sorry for the drawn out installation experience you had to deal with. It is certainly not what a Pella customer should expect or the level of timeliness that we strive to provide. Our promise to every customer including yourself is that if the unexpected or less than ideal happens we will keep working on your behalf until the job is 100% complete even if it means reordering product for you three times. I know we have worked with you to resolve any remaining issues, so we are of course disappointed that you feel that Pella deserves such a low rating, but if there is anything I can do at this point to improve your Pella experience I would love the opportunity. Thank You, Ben Piper 407-205-2075 piperbj@pella.com

Met with sales rep - Les was knowledgeable and experienced. Listened to our desires and offered intelligent solutions. Was careful to explain all options, and what we could expect. Discussed financial issues, and gave us options (with various discounts). Les brought in installation manager to discuss particular issues with our house. Pella project manager, Patty, contacted us and kept us informed as to date of installation and answered additional questions - however, as time passed she failed to return phone calls (only disappointment with this company). And, right on time, the installers contacted us to confirm they were coming. BEST OF ALL, the installation team, Ted Gardner (supervisor), Jimmy Black, and Tom Christopher arrived on time, and started the installation. The windows were exactly what we ordered, and the installation products the team used were top-of-the-line. The team was professional, personable, and demonstrated expertise. In one and one-half days, they completed the job. I am thoroughly impressed with Pella and there personnel. I have used "budget" window companies in the past - and while they were satisfactory, I was shocked at the difference between them and Pella - the Pella windows are superior quality, the personnel are brilliant, and the "behind the scenes" materinals used in installing the windows was impressive. Great experience.
Description of Work: Full-house window replacement. Removed old windows and installed custom fit windows. Researched window types and issues; researched companies; visited shops - Pella stood out.

The quality control is not very good at the factory. They sent the wrong window and slider twice. They fixed the problem but it took them awhile. They did not offer any type of compensation for the problem. The quality of work was good and they were responsive. They were very professional and I would use their services again.

After receiving an email from Pella offering 0% financing for 48 months, I visited the Pella website and was able to set up an appointment on-line. We received a call from Les at the Local Pella branch confirming the appointment. Les was professional, friendly and removed his shoes when he entered the house. In the appointment, Les briefly listened to what we were looking for at which point I told him I was not interested in a 45K estimate to replace windows and he offered options. The estimate came in a 40K (go figure). Reasons for passing: Prices are not terribly competitive considering both the product and installation. I received three other quotes in the same price range for windows that were equivalent or better in glass efficiency and structure and included removal/replacement/painting of the stucco trim bands. (Pella was going to place new windows in the existing frames to lower cost of installation) I have a fundamental issue with the manner in which the financing was offered. The ONLY reason they were contacted was due to an email promo for 48 month 0% financing. Through our interaction, quotes both with and without 0% financing was provided. While not specified in the ad, the option for 0% financing was stated to not be available with any "discounts". The roughly $6-$7K upcharge for the option of 0% financing, came out to an effective APR of around 11%. That is not 0% financing and it really felt like a bait and switch. Further, I'm also familiar with how these programs work (I'm a banker) and would be surprised if Pella funded these deals, especially at that rate. Spun however it is with "discounts" or whatever, I find the practice unsavory.

I chose the Pella store because I have heard stories of installation problems from the cheaper big-box stores. It took a couple of weeks to schedule a visit by the Saleslady, but she arrived punctually at the agreed time. She reviewed my requests and offered some important recommendations that both saved cost and improved the project. She was able to produce a detailed quote on the spot. An appointment was made for the Installation supervisor to review the project, and he also arrived promptly at the scheduled time and made additional suggestions on the custom work. It took about a month for the materials to arrive and the work crew arrived at the appointed time. A small part of the wall under the dining room window had to be removed for the French door, and the only hitch came when a wire for an electrical outlet was found in this section. An electrician was not part of the crew, and they were ready to just splice the wire under the door. I was able to get a low contor electrical box at Lowes for the splice to keep the work within codes. Overall the installation went well and was completed in two days. About two or three weeks later I noticed a 1/8 inch gap under the new front door. I e-mailed the Saleslady and she promptly set me up with maintenance for a technician to come out and fix the problem. It turned out that a quick adjustment fixed the problem.

Excellent experience with the sales representative - professional but friendly and helpful. Had to come back to us once to change the door from in-swing to out-swing in order to comply with Florida wind-load requirements. Price was super-expensive! but it looks like we got what we paid for - a beautiful product, well-made, and to our specifications. Installation service was timely and neat, and they took away the old door, which we appreciated. Our only issue (which we should have noticed and had fixed before they left) was the inside door handle was installed crooked. It took them 10 days to get back and correct this.

A year later I found out from an independent contractor working on my house that the windows Pella sold me were inappropriate for my home by the beach and that they were installed wrong and not up to code. The contractor showed me that the screws used to hold the windows into the house were not touching anything (i.e., they were not holding the window in the house). Pella representatives admitted the windows were installed incorrectly but a year after I first asked them to reinstall they are still not fixed. It's apparently an expensive fix. They don't return my phone calls and I believe I have been lied to or at least misled regarding several details around this issue. Do not trust the local Pella dealer located in Maitland Florida. If you need windows or doors go with someone else, especially if you live by the beach where the code requirements are more stringent. Their installers are inept. I don't know why Pella gets such good national customer ratings. All the groups are franchises and the national Pella organization will do nothing to help resolve my issue except they sent an email to the contacts at the franchise that I am dealing with.

Filled out the online form to have a salesman contact me. Received a call within 24 hours and set up an appointment. Salesman arrived promptly, listened to what I wanted and showed me my options. I placed the order. A week later I received a satisfaction call. So far, everything was going along well. Salesman called almost weekly to update me on my order. My windows were delivered and installed as promised. The installers did a nice job. The salesman and project supervisor both came by to check on the installation. Two windows didn't fit right and had to be reordered. Delivery expected to take 3-6 weeks. That was the last I heard from the salesman and Pella. There were no updates, no phone calls, nothing. I expected more based on how well they communicated before the installation. Then I began to receive bills for the entire job before it was complete. I tried to reach the accounting department and couldn't reach a live person. Left several voicemails but no return call. After several weeks, I received a call from the installer that the two replacement window were in. Installation completed within a week. Still no communication from the salesman or the company. I paid off the remaining balance owed. A week after the last two windows were installed, I received an invoice showing I was being billed for the two recently installed windows even though they were included in the original contract and these windows were merely reordered to correct an incorrect measurement (all measurements were done by the salesman and the project manager). I still haven't been able to get the accounting department to correct the billing. I am happy with the windows, but not incorrect billing and lack of contact from the company post installation.

Kirk Rainey (consultant) and his staff did a magnificent job. I could not have asked for an easier process. Kirk came to my home at first and painted a picture for me as to how the windows would look, he did a product demo, gave me a quote, plenty of photos and references and then delivered. I would have to say that the installers (Pella employees, not subs) were the icing on the cake. You can't even tell they were here. The installers were courteous, clean and surprisingly quiet; they stayed until the job was done;.no gaps in work time. They are currently at my neighbor's house. They were a little more than other companies that I talked to but I was happy to pay a little more for piece of mind. They delivered on everything they said they would; Definitely an "A".
Description of Work: I needed a company to match the windows that I already have due to historical accuracy. Pella has a window that just slides into the existing pocket and will not disturb my existing interior trim, that is original to the house. The consultant that took on the task was Kirk Rainey at the Bay meadows office. He managed the process which included overall design and finished look, removal, replacement, etc...

OVERALL, WE ARE PLEASED, BUT WE HAD A FEW PROBLEMS. THE FRONT DOOR INSTALLATION WAS FINE, BUT SIDE DOOR WAS THE WRONG SIZE. THERE WAS AN ATTACHED TRANSOM, AND IT DID NOT FIT THE SPACE FOR THE DOOR.
