I had a detached garage built and a concrete drive installed and needed sod placed to complete the project. I had paced off the area and estimated I would need between 1800 and 2000 sq ft of sod. I contacted this company and the owner came out the next day to go over the project. He said that he would get the sod locally, gave me a price per pallet and we agreed to move forward. They arrived when they said they would and laid 4 pallets of sod. Coverage was not nearly what I expected and I thought I must have grossly underestimated the area at 400 sq ft per pallet. We agreed to have another 2 pallets delivered and the next week they came to lay that amount. It was still not enough to cover my construction area. I was a little disturbed but need to finish the project and agree to 1 more pallet because I had some steep slopes and erosion was still an issue. In the meantime I actually measured the area and subtracted the garage and driveway footprint and got a figure of about 2150 sq ft, not that far off my original estimate. Now I was alarmed as I had purchased to date 6 pallets of sod which should have covered an area of 2400 sq ft and still needed more. 7 pallets did the job but that meant I only received 300 sq ft per pallet not the 400 I was told. 400 to 450 is the industry standard. I brought this up to the owner and he agreed that my figures seemed right but he shrugged and said, What can I do? I got what the landscape company gave me. To which I responded, I would go find out what the con is. I honestly cannot say who is at fault here other than me for not more thoroughly doing my homework on this and every project. The owner was a hard worker and appeared to be trustworthy. However, if he is so inexperienced that he could not recognize when he is being shorted sod by 25% or more he might not want to be advertising as a sod installation company. I do not know if I was taken by him, the sod supplier or both but I was taken. Oh and I was told there was a $10 refundable deposit on the pallets and which was never refunded to me. Dusty ;s Lawn Service might be a reliable lawn care company but falls far short when it comes to sod installation. I paid $1953 for 2100 square feet of sod.

The first good sign was receiving an actual phone call from Dusty letting us know that he received our request for lawn service. We had a vacant land that needed to be mowed and worried how to handle since we don't live in the area and had to put our trust in someone to get it done. We were quite fortunate to contact Home Advisor to get the right person for the job and that was Dusty's Lawn Service! Dusty called when starting the job and immediately called when it was completed with photos of before & after (hoping it was the right lot since they all look the same..LOL). I would highly recommend with confidence if you need to have any vacant land maintained; will definitely be contacting Dusty for all future lawn services. It takes a lot of faith and trust to hire someone you don't know to do a job for you, especially when it's from long distance. However, I went with my gut instinct after speaking to Dusty and I'm glad I did. He was prompt in returning my call and assured me that if I hired him he will deliver and send me photos of the finished work. He is honest and provided excellent, on-time service for a reasonable price. My husband and I are pleased with what we saw of the completed work and will use him again anytime.
