Let me begin by saying that I have talked to the owner about my dispute and that, although he promised to look into it and issue a refund, I've not received it. My whole house was backed up on a weekend. The first plumber was a very good, polite, young guy who put nearly 200' of wire down the vent stack to clear the clog. The main line on the street is 50' away. A month or so later, it was clogged again and a different plumber came out to perform the same task and cleared it again. Two weeks later, it was clogged again and they sent out another plumber, waiving the 'call out' but couldn't get past 40' due to roots, in fact he had great difficulty snaking past the bathroom and spent hours trying - good for him, but I was paying for it. They called a more experienced guy out who brought a different tool - the right one for the job. He located the main clean out trap which was buried, although he broke the top of the cast iron fitting with his tool. He identified roots 40' down my main. They suggested now that the broken trap needed to be replaced for $480, plus run a camera for $800 - 1200, then the cast iron main would have to be replaced - likely several thousand. Once he saw me starting to dig up the lawn to find the supposed broken cast iron line with tree roots so I could go to Home Depot to do a DIY, he told me the truth. . . . the clog was on county property and they would clear and replace it all for free. I called the county, they were out the same day, ran a camera, dug up the lawn and the street replaced asbestos (not iron) pipe, and were great. Over $800 spent with Slaughter. . . I don't mind paying for the emergency call out, but I do for the inexperienced plumber's time, the broken trap, and the return calls when they should have told me it was county property at the start. The owner said he'd refund a portion and brief his crew, giving him the opportunity to right the wrong - no response since. Since I promised him to give him the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to do the right thing instead of blasting his business on social media, , I'm making this post. I will also share on other sites if there is still no response through Angie's List. I'll update if he follows up. As for Angie's List, this is the 6th home service I've used based on their rating and I've had very poor luck. I'll probably be cancelling my membership very soon.

The initial plumber dispatched (David) simply adjusted the hot water thermostat and charged $145. Turns out the water heater is undersized and we need a recirculating pump. I called to complain and spoke to the manager, (Paul) who sent another plumber Eric. Eric seemed very knowledgable and professional. He said Paul would provide a proposal for the work. I have called them 6 times and been promised that Paul would call back that afternoon. He never has. Bottom line .....I'm out $145 for nothing and my real problem was never even addressed. Stay away.

Slaughter Plumbing responded quickly. I had to turn off the water and wait for them to arrive. I stated that I thought the leak was coming from the line for the ice maker in refrigerator. Jeff asked me if he could put a hole in the ceiling. After cutting the hole in ceiling, I was told that he could not find the leak and I should call "I Find Leaks". I called this company and they arrrived in the afternoon. He used an infra red camera to determine the leak was coming from the line for the ice maker in the refrigerator. He was able to shut the valve for this line at the water heater. If the plumber had thought of turning the valve off first, I would not have to repair my ceiling. Total cost of repair $770.00. I spoke to someone at the office to let them know I was not happy. I was told he would look into it. I never heard back from him.

When my water heater started leaking all over the garage floor I called a competitor that had originally installed it. They said they would be out in three days. I then called Slaughter who sent out a plumber the same day. They quickly assessed the problem and one of their plumbers, Jeff, had a new water heater up and running in a couple hours. I will definitely use them for any future plumbing issues. Excellent service.

Had a pipe leaking in wall. Plumber arrived and proceeded to cut holes (8 to 15 inch square holes) in various places looking for leak. After 2nd hole I had to suggest turning the water back on to listen for leak before cutting more holes. General area of hole was found and he cut hole near base board to find it was wet. He then cut several holes up the wall until reaching the leak- a broken pipe going into shower faucet on the other side of the wall. I talked to other people with plumbing experience in the weeks following and was told that what I thought was correct- the general area of the leak should have been narrowed down before starting to cut holes. Getting someone to repair the holes is going to cost me more than the plumbing repair. In addition, before the leaving the plumber told me that my PVC pipes were rated for a lifespan of 30 years and that copper pipes were only good for about 25 years. Again talking to other people with plumbing knowledge and using google I found that while that can sometimes be the case with very acidic water it's more common that copper pipes should last for 50-70 years and pvc for at least 50-75 and up to 100 years or more. Giving me the worst case estimate without any other information seems either slightly dishonest or incompetent.

They were great and they will be my plumber for any future jobs!! I had Chucks Plumbing come first and they charged me $250 to tell me where the leak was after I told them where it was??? They said the other man will be there later to do the repair??? He said the cost would be an additional $500 ??? I told him to get lost and I would get someone else which was Slaughter Plumbing! They were very fair in pricing and I gave them a $50.00 tip and asked them to have lunch on me!!!!

I had used Slaughter Plumbing a couple of times over the past fifteen years, and I don’t recall any issues from those transactions. But it was well over a year ago that I called Slaughter Plumbing again because of a slow drain problem at the house. They scheduled an afternoon call. Their serviceman showed up 90 minutes late. He seemed in a rush, and after about 20 minutes of working with a ‘snake’, he said that he couldn’t fix it with the equipment he had, and that a certain machine was needed, and that we had to call and schedule service the following week so they could bring the machine. The next day, rather than wait, I thought I'd try a handyman who ended up fixing the slow drain with a similar size snake that the Slaughter serviceman was using. Two weeks later, I received a bill from Slaughter Plumbing for $205 for the service call and the use of some kind of machine as part of the service call. So I called Slaughter, explained the situation and inquired about the bill, saying that I was certainly willing to pay their $75 service call fee (even though he didn’t fix anything), but I was unwilling to pay for the use of a machine that was never used. They told me they would look into it and get back to me. They never did. A few weeks later, I get another bill for $205. So I called them again (and spoke to the same female office manager) who expressed surprise that they had never gotten back to me. This time, she explained how they have a GPS system that would allow them to track their servicemen’s locations and service times, etc. and that they could easily investigate the matter, and promised that the owner would call me back in a few days. That all sounded promising. But again, I never heard back from them. At this point, I assumed they had reviewed the service and machine use data, and realized what had happened and had just cancelled the bill. Well, a couple of months ago (after more than a year had passed), I get a letter from a collection agency for the $205! I paid it in full so as to avoid any hassles. It’s obviously not about the money, since it wasn’t that much money anyway. Slaughter Plumbing’s practice in this case boils down to fraud.

Response from SLAUGHTER PLUMBING SERVICE
Dear Mr. [Member Name Removed], Thank you for your inquiry/feedback regarding the service and invoice for work performed at your home. It is never a good thing to hear that we have disappointed a customer. I did speak with you twice, and forwarded your information to the service manager to investigate. The time at your home (per GPS tracking was 4:20 to 5:27) and the service tech (who has been with us for 26 years - as our stoppage technician) gave back his report as follows: Ran the K-60 power sewer machine through the cleanout up towards the unit. Found no stoppage in main line. Used plunger and auger to clear localized stoppage at fixture. Adjusted water level in 2nd toilet. (He then noted that the toilet has a long crack around the handle and that he recommended replacement of the toilet.) We always flush and run water through the line to make sure that the line is clear before we leave. Stoppages cannot be guaranteed as we have no way of knowing what is introduced into the system after we leave. Often it is simply too much of a not easily degraded brand of toilet tissue, and can reoccur repeatedly. I apologize that no one returned your call with a resolution. The manager looked into it so I assumed he had called you to discuss. I am however confused by the statement that no machine was used, when you stated yourself that the handyman used the same machine that we used? It would not be like our sewer tech to make notes that weren't accurate. We have a $189.00 minimum which includes a use of the equipment for up to an hour. Additionally we bill $22.00/quarter hour thereafter, so your bill looks solid on Steve's part. Not knowing that the service manager had not returned your call, and having not received payment in 16 months and having sent several reminders, it would be our secretary's job to see that the bill be written off to collections. We do make every attempt to contact our customers to avoid the collection process, but she has protocol to follow as well. I appreciate your payment, but seeing that there was a definite communication error on our part, I am willing to issue a partial (half of the invoice amount) refund, as a gesture of good faith. I do not feel that a full refund is warranted since all evidence on our end support that the time and equipment charges were correct. I hope that this will prove satisfactory on your end. As a side note, please know that if a stoppage does re-occur within 7 days, we waive the $79.00 service call and the $38 equipment charge and charge only the labor by the quarter hour. I find it regrettable that this was not handled properly as of our last conversation. We appreciate your business and do our best to resolve matters amicably. I will contact my collection agency to ensure proper handling and dismissal of this matter.

My shower back up on Christmas Eve I called this co on the December 27 they came out the same day. He tired to clear drain and was unsuccessful he used mur acid in drain which he then emptied his shop vac on my lawn killing a large area . He said we would need to redo shower and they would follow up with price by end of week his boss was out of town. My husband then went and bought a drain snake hooked it up to his drill and cleared the drain all this after I paid $278.00 and had to ask for my Angie's list discount ! I called and asked to speak with the owner received a call back while I was at work returned his call left my work number As he was out of office , I have tired several other times to make contact with no return calls from company , needless to say I would never recommend this company and feel very taken advantage of

Maybe this is the standard charge for plumbing, but an hour and 45 minutes costs $441.17. $189 for clearing a stoppage and another $189 for putting a few parts on my toilet on a Wednesday morning. I was at work when it was done but talked to Nerf on the phone. Rather unpleasant fellow - he refused to believe me when I told him I saw water coming from the toilet base. He said the wax seal was OK, but offered no other explanation. Called Slaughter on two occasions two weeks apart. Both plumbers they sent argued and left the jobs unfinished (one did not cap the cut-out behind the house correctly and left the hole unfilled, the other guy only caulked three sides of the toilet and did not line the tank up correctly). I finished both their jobs. Sub standard quality and service at a premium price. Not the kind of people I would deal with again.
