I received an estimate from Curtis Pools. They had built a pool for my neighbor and were unobtrusive and clean throughout the whole process, so I thought I would use them as well. Jeff Knight met with me and my husband. After several emails, he sent us a quote on a pool. It included a variable speed pump, salt system, and travertine decking. I repeatedly asked Jeff to update the quote to include a larger travertine tile, not the paver size travertine. I asked three separate times and he ignored me or told me he'd "have to check with his supplier", but never gave me any information on the stone. Eventually, I countered his estimate with an offer of $25,000. He eventually accepted our offer. Shortly thereafter, he explained he hadn't meant to put a variable speed pump in the offer so it would be an extra $650. Our counter-offer was based on the variable speed pump's inclusion in the quote so I offered to pay half of the extra cost in an act of goodwill and friendly negotiation. And again, I asked that he price the correct stone for the decking. I was hoping we would begin the pool the following week. With no warning, I received an email saying that Curtis Pools does only 'quality work' and doesn't use 'shortcuts' and had no interest in our business anymore. I get the impression it was somewhat of a form letter, as it didn't make sense; we hadn't asked him to use inferior products or shortcuts, we just asked for him to honor his proposal and find out the price of a higher end travertine tile. I was beyond offended by his business practices, and I can't believe in this economy that his company can just pick and choose their clientele based on Jeff's whims. Although I'm sure their pool would have been a fine pool, I'm actually quite happy things didn't work out with Curtis Pools. I immediately contacted Freestyle Pools who built a gorgeous pool for the same price and had lovely employees from the initial quote through the end of the process.

I was referred by a friend who was completely satisfied with them. The interaction was friendly, prompt, and they designed a great looking pool on paper. I probably would have choose them but felt pressured at the end.
