Technician determined that the capacitor was bad, in almost no time. He tried a replacement one and the AC worked. He told me the price to permanently replace the capacitor would cost $280. I said i would do it myself. The replacement capacitor online was $ 36 with one day delivery. My son and I did the labor to replace it. The AC is working fine now.

Greg came within 3 hours of my call and diagnosed the problem as a failing capacitor. He priced the replacement capacitor and also offered an additional kick-starter to extend the life of the replacement capacitor. I declined the kick-starter for now as the unit is a bit older and will likely need replaced in the next few years anyway and he was very understanding. Overall I was extremely pleased with the service and while Greg gave me options, he did not press me into purchasing the service agreement or additional equipment.

On 8/7/17, I reached out to Bay Area Heating & Cooling because my air conditioning was not working. I originally reached out to them because their hours were posted as 24/7 on Angie’s List and it was very hot outside. Even though I was willing to pay the extra service charge, they were unable to come out that night and look (not sure why they list their hours as 24/7 then). On 8/8/17, I reached out in the morning and scheduled an appointment for later in the day. The technician, Greg, came out to take a look at my air conditioning unit. His diagnosis was a clogged drain line. As I did not want to pay 135.76 to clear the drain line, I paid the $69.95 service fee. When he left the a/c was working as he emptied out a small amount of water from the auxiliary float unit to get it cooling. However, it had been about 20/30 minutes since he emptied it and it was still cooling abnormally slow. I immediately cleaned the drain line (within an hour) as suggested. However, within a few hours, the a/c stopped cooling completely again (it never got to the temperature my thermostat was set at, it only cooled a couple degrees total). I waited a little while to see if it would come back on and when it did not, I called Bay Area Heating & Cooling back. I spoke with a representative (did not write down name) at the company who informed me that they would come back out, but that they would not only charge me the $69.95 diagnostic free, but the additional after hours service fee would bring the total up to $130/$140 just for a new diagnosis. I asked for him to speak to manager, because I thought it was ridiculous that I was being asked to pay that much money when the issue was misdiagnosed to begin with. He spoke with the manager and informed me that that decision was final. He also mentioned numerous times how he’d be willing to come out and take a look and would be willing to “leave his work party” because he was on call, but recommended I wait until the morning as he was just trying to save me money. I did not want to wait until morning, as it was over 80 inside and I had to work the next day. I got very frustrated dealing with him, as I felt like he was more concerned about a party then helping me with my situation and did not feel like I should have to pay at all for something that was misdiagnosed to begin with. I called my Dad and asked him to speak with this company for me. He spoke with the company, but also couldn’t get anywhere. Completely frustrated and sick of dealing with Bay Area Heating and Cooling, I went to bed very hot and begged a friend to come take a look at my a/c. In the morning, my friend came out and fixed the a/c within an hour. Essentially what had happened was the a/c float was built lower than the drain line, so water was going up and stopping the float instead of going through the drain line first (and then stopping the float when it was too backed up). I had no way to know this was originally built poorly, because I just bought the home this year. My a/c has been working great for a couples months now, no thanks to the assistance from Bay Area Heating & Cooling. I will never work with them again and am still out $69.95 for a lot of extra stress and an incorrect diagnosis.

We had a tune up for the older a/c system in the house we just bought. The technician was thorough and very patient with all my questions and explained everything well. Did a great job!

The tech said that we needed a part that determines whether the outside unit would turn on or not. Even though it was working, it was rusted because the house in question is located on the intra coastal waterway. Then he said another part would help contain the erosion on the outer protection of the unit. We are not experts so we do not know if the prices were reasonable. We paid $214 for the replacement part and $84.30 for the part that is supposed to stop further erosion. I hope his information was correct and that the additional price was not too high for what we bought. Angie's special Tune up $49.00,corrosion grenade $84.30,capacitor $214.30=total $347.60. I hope his was honest. We have no way of knowing.

Poorly. The technician mis-diagnosed this problem as needing a part and estimated $650 repair, paid in advance?! A second opinion revealed he was incorrect and repairs were done for $160. We contacted Bay to Bay who apologized for the error and (at our request) promptly refunded our money via check in the mail.

Their management team is excellent. The only issue I had was with a young electrician that complained when he first arrived telling the other electrician that it was too hot and he's not going to be much help. It was Monday, so it seems like he was hungover from the weekend. Later that day, they found suspicious piping and vacated the job telling me and their management that they will not work under these conditions putting their owner in a hard predicament. After a few hours on the phone and me removing the piping myself, the owner/manager had a new crew arrive the next morning and finished the job.

It went well. They originally installed the air conditioners and we continue to use them for maintenance.

Well, I have a service agreement with them, so they were just out about a month ago doing my regular service. It's $250 per air conditioner and that covers three years of service. They installed our air conditioners a couple of years ago. We needed three new air conditioner units. I had used them before for just maintenance and they gave me the best price for three units. They came in did work, they did a very nice job.

Excellent. Didn't try to sell unneeded services. Advised on repairs needed in the future. I was very happy with the quality of service.

Went fine. Weeks later problem, responded, extensive solution did not workd because leaked weeks later, They fixed the ceiling at their expense, The last repair guy had a simple fix and it worked great. NO problems since.

Picked them for all the Angie?s List awards they had.

Greg called me up and explained what to check and how to fix it. No cost.

They were thorough, efficient and saved me quite a deal of money down the road. The work took probably an hour and a half. Excellent communication. He explained what was transpiring with my system.

In fact, I went with them even after another company did the installation of the system. They had to change out the condenser because there was a consistent, bad odor and that was a manufacturing defect.

I'm on a service agreement with them. What makes them deserve all A's is their punctuality. We've had different service technicians. They've always been very helpful in explaining what they're doing and why it's just very customer service for you.

The guy that came out was an A all the way. I used them at another house before moving here. We liked them and we went back to them. I know these guys. It took about a half an hour for service to be done. I had some other questions and he answered them.

Everything went well though I'm not sure they are as thorough as I'd prefer. I'll continue to use them in the future as the value was worth the price.

The technician was excellent going above and beyond the call of duty. By far the best tuneup of my heat pump I have ever had.

Went very well. Very professional organization. Cleaned up an issues from previous AC company.

The salesman that came out to my home was prompt, courteous, professional and prepared, he respected my time and budget. The installers were also terrific, i would strongly refer anyone to this company!!

Well except preventive maintenance men frequently try to sell me new duck work in spite of the fact my duck work passes blower door test (no apparent leakage) and my electric bills remain low.

At the time of the service call, Justin explained all my options, the pros and cons, and did not pressure me for the sale. I have been very happy with the service I received from Bay Area Heating and Cooling! From the service call to the installation, they were prompt, professional, and personable. I would recommend them to anyone needing HVAC service. My new Trane unit is quieter and much more efficient than my old unit and will save me money in the long run.

Everything checked out well and the tech was punctual, professional and competent. Would definitely consider using them again.
