We had a basic inspection during which the technician found that that the points were burnt out. He took them out and showed them to me and explained how they work (pretty much like the points in a car - an old car).

The company did an excellent job from start to finish. I had a few other bids and BayArea did the most complete load calculation and evaluation of my situation. Based on my research the price I paid was in line with the going rates. Do not feel I got a deal or anything but paid a fair price for a quality product. Could have paid less but would have gotten an inferior product and install. the installers were great. Cleaned up after the job and most importantly the system works well and looks like it was installed by pros.
Description of Work: Had my old central AC system replaced with a new Trane 3-ton heat pump. Used existing ducts.

My air stopped cooling so I called to have a technician come out. Even though it was a Sunday afternoon, he arrived within an hour of my call. He was very helpful and showed me things I could do to maintain the system to prevent future problems. He was very professional.

Needlessly upsold my parents on a $250 product. Later when I called to inform then that the upgrade (boost kit) had failed about a month later, they told me they couldn't fix it. Will not be using them again.

The AC quit cooling on Wednesday night. A technician came out and diagnosed the problems. This was a 20+ year old unit. He recharged it hoping it would hold until a new unit could be installed. The new unit was installed on Friday. Very prompt and professional work. I am very pleased with their work and the newly installed equipment.

Our AC went out on Friday afternoon. When we called on Friday, we decided it was too expensive to have them come out, so we waited until Monday. They called us first thing Monday morning and came out and gave us an estimate in a couple of hours. Our new unit was installed the following Wednesday. The 2 guys that did the work (Anthony & Tony) did an excellent job. They got the unit up and running within a few hours so we could have air in the house and then they finished all other aspects of the job. We really appreciated this very much since we had been without air for 5 days & 5 nights. They were prompt, professional and very courteous.

From the first phone call to the completed job, this company and it's staff were professional, friendly, and customer service focused. They delivered what they promised when they promised it.
Description of Work: We had routine maintenance done on our two a/c units. Jerry checked the units, freon levels and pressures, air handlers, filters, and inserted anti algae tablets. He discovered that the original installer of the units (2006) had either inserted unnecessary filters or inserted one inproperly. As we didn't know these filters were there, they had not been changed and were filthy. Once Jerry completed his work, we noticed an immediate improvement in the airflow.

Description of Work: Tampa Electric had come to my home and did a free energy audit. From that info I knew I needed to have some repair work done on my A/C ducts. I called 3 seperate companies from Angie's list. Bay Area gave me the best price. They replaced a flex duct over my garage that lead upstairs and repaired a supply run for my A/C.

The typical no-notice, must-be-fixed-soon emergency: no air conditioning in June. The receptionist was cheerful, and scheduled a same-day repair call, although understandably the time block was fairly open. The technician was professional and very pleasant. He promptly diagnosed the problem (broken fan), determined the part was available, fetched it from the warehouse and installed it. Both the receptionist and the technician went over costs up front, so there were no surprises.

They were very professional. Someone who was very knowledgable came out and gave an estimate. We then set an appointment for the next day. An installer showed up ten minutes early, very courteous, polite and experienced. I went back to work and he called me when I was done. A/C unit works fabulously. I'm very impressed with how efficient it all went; also they were very straight-forward with their pricing and timing.

I called and the man I spoke to said there was FREE diagnosis for Angie's List customers. He said that diagnosis would cost me only $69.50. It was only after additional questioning on my part that he admitted that the "free" diagnosis he mentioned was only free IF you had them do the work. In other words, if you didn't have them do the work, it would cost $149.50!!! That's their idea of "free" diagnosis? I felt that what he told me in the beginning was misleading.

Response from Bay Area Heating & Cooling Inc
Dear Angie's List Member, We are sorry for any misunderstanding that took place regarding your most recent service call on 5/4/10. After checking our records, we provided service for you on 9/18/09- Inv# 6188 ( you did not pay a diagnostic fee of 80.00 at that time because we provide a diagnosis at no charge for Angie's List members ). It does not matter whether we do the repair or somebody else does, all we require is a service call fee of $69.95. After speaking with my General Manager & the technician who visited your home this last time it is unclear why you believe you were going to have to pay a diagnostic fee this time...it isn't on your most recent service ticket. You were charged only 69.95 ( which you wrote the check for 69.00 ) & were told what the cost of repair would be if you wanted us to do it. It is also my understanding you felt the cost we would charge for a capacitor was too high, and refused to sign the service ticket. Upon hearing the next day that you were unhappy the owner, John Mulder, called & left you a message that we were sorry about any misunderstanding & would gladly refund your 69.00, but we never heard back from you. Regards, Shaile Mulder Vice President Bay Area Heating & Cooling, Inc.

It was SOO wonderfully easy: John Mulder came to the residence within a day of my calling for an estimate. He examined our current system, explained what his recommendations were, then with his laptop he pulled together and printed three estimates-- or as he put it, a good, better , best scenario-- for my husband and I to consider. Mr. Mulder was easy to talk with, he explained a lot of the technical aspects in an easy to understand fashion without condescending. I knew as soon as he left the house we would use his company. We spoke with him the next day and agreed to his 'better" estimate and the job was scheduled for a couple of days later. The two technicians arrived as schedule--exactly on time-- and they were extremely polite and quiet. Work was completed that same day. I would HIGHLY recommend this company!

From the first visit to give an estimate, this company was top-notch. They gave us honest opinions, and actually saved us money in the long run. We purchased the house within the past seven months, and had intended to have just the ducts cleaned, knowing that we would soon need to buy another A/C. When they showed us the amount of mold in the ducts, we decided to replace them instead of cleaning them. By buying a new system at the same time we replaced the ducts, we saved money. The crew was prompt, and they were careful and considerate in placing the unit where we wanted it. They also moved the air handler from the attic to the garage, moved a vent in the living room, added a return, and added a vent in the kitchen. It was a big job, requiring two days of work. On the second day, it became apparent that they wouldn't finish by late afternoon. Instead of calling it a day, they worked on into the night, making sure the job got done. They cleaned up after themselves (for the most part), and we were very pleased with the work. Kudos go to the office staff as well. They're smart, friendly, and know their customers. We were assured that should ANY problem arise, we are to call them for same day service. Since moving to Tampa, we've found very few businesses that encourage you to call them with problems. We were impressed with the entire experience, and would highly recommend them to anyone.

I called Bay Area Heating and Air and they were very detailed over the phone. They asked how I heard about them and I said Angies List. They told me about a discount they were running for Angie's members at the time. When the service tech came he was very knowledgeable and answered my questions. We crawled up in the attic together and he went above and beyond in giving me advice and writing a detailed invoice of the services provided. Even though this was not for 'major work' I would trust them to come back out and give me an estimate if I ever needed repair.

The company president came out ot the house to give us a presentation, went outside to look at our existing unit, he did not consider it to be a critical manner to get it replaced, but, it was definately an older unit, and not very efficient. He gave us a couple of options, one much less expensive that the other, but, I wanted to get more than what we had, and so, we went for the larger unit. It was definately a low-pressure presentation, I never felt that he was trying to push anything. He also explained the various costs, and discounts available. After discussing it with my wife, we made the decision to go with this company I thought I was going to have to reschedule because of jury duty, bet, we were able to work around that. Installers showed up on time, did their installation, and cleaned up, and instructed us in the use of the new thermostat. They explained all the paperwork, and had gotten a permit ahead of time, scheduled inspection by county building inspector. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the work that they did. I often use the old saying "You get what you pay for". Bay Area is not the cheapest, but, I think that they are the best.

Everything was great. Office manager was incredibly kind and responsive when I phoned in. She explained the company's history and structure. She told me the name of the technician that would be coming to my home and she even scheduled him to come the same day! She also explained the coupon use and pricing in careful detail. The technician was exactly on time and extremely professional. He took time to explain the problem to me and to my husband. He did the repairs very quickly and had us back up and running properly in very little time. The office manager even called to follow up with me the next day. This company does what it says it will do and provides the BEST customer service that I've received in as long as I can even remember. I thought customer service had become a thing of the past but this company changed my mind!
Description of Work: Assessed the problem. Determined there was a nut that was too tight (from other company that installed system) and it had contracted enough to strip the bolt and cause a leak.

They ran into a lot of little challenges, but they got the installation done and did it to what we asked for and expected. They actually came out a couple of days later to make sure that everything got fine tuned right. They took care of making sure I got my final inspection signed off on. I actually got a call from the power company letting me know that they had gotten all of the appropriate paperwork for the rebates and refunds, and I should expect that soon. Overall, we are very happy.

Great, just great. I've already covered it.
Description of Work: Got my heat going again. It had gone out -- electrical short in the air handler, but it looked much worse -- and I called another company Saturday night (I should have called Bayside). They gave me a quote of over $1100 -- for replacement of much more than necessary, although it looked reasonable at the time. Anyway, after getting short shrift from that other company when I asked for an update yesterday, I went to Bayside. They told me it probably wasn't an $1100 job, so I went with them and canceled the other service request. I'm so glad I did. Not only was my heat back on faster -- the other guys needed parts and wouldn't have it done until tomorrow or Thursday -- but the price was great. It was just some electrical repair work, no major components needed.

Dear Member, Bay Area Heating & Cooling, Inc. would like to apologize for the delay in the completion of your heat pump installation in June 2009. Our manufacturer, Trane Corporation, had the emergency heater on back order for 60 days. That was the reason for the delay in completing your installation. Bay Area Heating & Cooling, Inc. is committed to 100% satisfaction to our customers & Angie's List Members. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. I bought a short-sale house that had been vacant for appox. one year. During pre-purchase inspection the inspector noted a lack of maintenance in the A/C unit such as dirty cooling coils & a dirty blower. The house also had some rodent activity (chewed-up flex duct). He recommended post-purchase maintenance & inspection by a pro. Initially I had called another company from Angie's list to look at my A/C system. The other company's rep. did an eye-ball inspection of my home's duct work (behind the heating - cooling vents), looked at the unit in my garage, and recommended all metal ducts be replaced, for a total of $4800. Being shocked at the estimate bid, I called Bay Area Heating & Cooling to get a 'second opinion'. The next day John Mulder, the owner of BAHC, came out to my house. I explained the estimate of work needed from the first company, and explained my needs to him . John examined all equipment & duct work in my crawl space, and gave me a rundown of the work needed, what would best suit my needs. John was professional, polite, courteous, friendly, and patiently answered all my questions. John explained the reasons for the work he recommended, and how it would benefit not only the equipment, but me personally by installing the air sanitizer. He showed me how A/C pro's size the ducting needed, and estimate the capacity of the equipment. Before leaving John gave me a detailed work order of the work to be performed, and later that day I received a call to schedule the repairs. Two of his staff showed up to do all the repairs listed in the description above, on time, the next day. They exhibited all the same qualities John did, and during their time working at my house, I barely knew they were there. The rebuild of the riser in my garage is, well, beautiful (if A/C equipment can be called that), and all their work A+. They installed two air return grates inside my home, including new filters, in addition to the other work. This was something John noticed on his initial visit that I considered a courtesy, certainly not something his company had to do. They explained the operation of the air sanitizer to me in detail, answering all questions about the service. I had a great experience w/Bay Area Heating & Cooling from start to finish. This is *the* A/C company saved in my cell phone, and will be the one & only outfit I call for these needs.
Description of Work: Replaced some flex duct work in my house, built a return riser in my garage for the air handler & blower, and serviced the outdoor unit. They also installed an RGF Guardian air sanitizer in the blower, cleaned all coils & blades. Finally, as courtesy, they installed two new air return grates inside my home.
