I used Bay Area Heating and Cooling to replace the air handler and fix some leaks. They explained everything they were doing. During the install they modified the drain line so that it would drain better. They also fixed a short in the wiring. They were there until 9PM. They went over and above the requirements of the job.

It was an emergency off hour repair, not thrilled with the $95 fee for emergency services but had no choice. But the staff was professional and the service was quick. The technician was able to diagnose and fix the problem quickly.

The serviceman was very friendly and explained the required repairs very clearly. On the down side: perhaps due to the volume of purchasers of the Angie's List special that this service was from, it took a couple of months to get in an appointment that worked for both our calendars. The serviceman arrived approximately 1.5 hours later than the appointment time. After the service was completed, I noticed that the temperature in the house was steadily creeping higher. Upon inspection of the blower unit in the garage, I saw that the serviceman had forgotten to reattach the bolts to the blower electrical panel door, and that the door had therefore fallen off the unit, thereby having the hot air from the garage circulating through the system. I decided to comparison shop the costs of repairs that were suggested, and found other competitors' prices as much as 30% lower.

Response from Bay Area Heating & Cooling Inc
Dear Angie's List Customer, Bay Area Heating and Cooling, is very concerned about the level of service you received, clearly our technician dropped the ball with respect to leaving screws out of the air handler door. As a result of our policy is and always has been 100% customer satisfaction our your money back. Bay Area Heating and Cooling feels it is only write to refund you the fees spent. As far as the conflict in scheduling our records indicate our technician was there on 4-15-2013 and was not allowed to bother you as you were on a conference call, so he tagged your door and we rescheduled the call. The parts/ repairs recommended were priced on a level market analysis and is in the 50 percentile with companies of similar size and staff. Bay Area Heating and Cooling employees 27 full time employees just for the record. Sincerely, John Mulder President Bay Area Heating and Cooling, Inc.

Our A/C quit on a Friday evening, but we waited to call for a technician until first thing Saturday morning. Marc was at our door by 1:00pm that day and quickly diagnosed the problem as a poorly-installed float switch. He gave us several options for repair and pricing, and we ultimately opted to replace the float switch. He had the part in his truck and our A/C was back up and running in no time. Marc was courteous, good-natured, and an absolute saint for fitting us into his busy Saturday schedule. Thank you!

Thank you to Bay Area Heat and Cooling. Shaun did a great job pricing a couple of different options for us and I felt he was both honest and sincere about what best would serve our needs. The system in our bottom floor was a bit challenging b/c these newer higher SEER air handlers are much bigger than the one it replaced. Working together we were able to find a creative solution for the installation and get a better system for the extra effort! Ron and Steve did a fantastic job of installing two new Trane A/C units and provide. They were honest, hardworking, punctual and very quality oriented. Both installs look great! I had 4 quotes and Bay Area Heating and Cooling was my last and best one. Best value, most flexibility to work for a unique solution, highest quality system, and the second lowest price. I had one lower price but the system brand and specifications were not nearly as good. I will be recommending Bay Area to all of our friends and neighbors. Thanks Bay Area!

arrived on time, and got to working. Then he started telling me everything that he should change out on the units. I told him I have a home waranty and just write it all down. Oh he said, so you are not getting any work done today. I said no. No more about repairs, then he smoothed it over that I needed repairs at all, now that he knew I was not getting any work done. then he said that they needed freeon and it would be 92.00 lb! Yikes last year I paid 65.00 what has happened to the price of freeon? I did not feel comfortable that he was really telling me the truth about needing repairs, because last year I had the units repaired and serviced. I would find it hard to believe they needed more repairs. So I did not get freezon, because he told me it was cooling within the acceptbale range. I did not call them because I thought I had a problem, I called them just to do a yearly service tune up.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal special offer for this service. It worked out very well; they were nice. I called them almost immediately and they came out several weeks after my call. They were very good and did what they came out to do for the price that they said they were going to charge me so they were reliable.

Then when service man was at my home, he pointed out other work (two fuses replaced)which he said needed doing and I asked for a new thermostat as well. The problem came when he started quoting how much to do the additional work. He calls the office and they say 500.00 for a new thermostat and to change out two fuses. I said that was way too much because they were already at the house. The office said OK, they would charge a total Of $500 for all the work. That mean't to me the initial $250 for the air duct cleaning and an additional $250 for a new thermostat and two fuses. I checked the thermostats price was $45 to $60 and the two fuses were about $15 to 20 each. All the additional work took the man a half hr to complete or actually less time than that. Well I signed the work completion paper and didn't look at details because he was talking with me and we didn't go over the work order again and I thought we had an agreement. My credit card bill comes in and the company charged the initial duct cleaning of $250 and an additional $500 for the thermostat and two fuses. When I saw the $500 on the completed work order that mean't to me the whole bill for duct cleaning and thermostats and two fuses. I thought the office had put through a credit on the initial $250 for the duct cleaning and had rebilled the whole job as agreed upon at the time the technician called the office to negotiate the work order and price. I am going to call credit card company to return the initial $250 payment and dispute misleading practice and gouging. I got took and my husband is mad when he said he could put in the thermostat and the fuses were like car fuses, they didn't need replacing until they were no good.

Response from Bay Area Heating & Cooling Inc
Dear Angie's List Member, It is unfortunate that you do not feel you received what you paid for through the Angie's List Big Deal Program and our company directly. So that there is no additional confusion let me clarify that you purchased a full system tune up for 49.00 and an Air Handler Rejuvenation which includes an Air Duct SANITIZING. Bay Area does not, or nor have we ever CLEANED air ducts as you stated. This was a combined total of $ 248.00 paid to Angie's List by you online, not Bay Area. In regards to the Professional Recommendations, made by the technician, of weak capacitors going bad ( not fuses) our technicians are required to make their customers aware of anything they may find that is weak, or possibly may stop working during the cooling or heating season. It was simply a recommendation which you agreed too and then you requested for him to put on a thermostat while he was there. The technician called the office to find out what to charge for the thermostat because it was not a thermostat listed in his price book, and also to find out if he could provide to you discounted pricing since he was already there. The office provided the thermostat pricing and approved a discount for you of $ 33.57 which was discounted off of the capacitors. Our Angie's List customers are very important to us so therefore this is not an uncommon request made by our technicians if they are already in the customer's home. At this point you have had a tune up, air handler rejuvenation with sanitization paid by you through Angie's List, and then requested the technician to do additional work of replacement of two capacitors and installation of a brand new thermostat for a total of 508.05 paid directly to Bay Area. The service ticket was very specific as to what services you had that were paid through Angie's List and what services you were being billed that day for, of which you owed Bay Area. The service ticket was signed by you. There was not anything that was, as you put it, misleading, or certainly not gouging! I can assure you if Bay Area was doing business in that manner our reviews would speak to that and we would be put out of business. As you also stated you neglected to look at the details of your service ticket and therefore might have simply misunderstood. The technician was at your home from 12:30pm until 5:15pm. The extra time was spent to take excellent care of you and the additional requests that were made. Regards, John Mulder President

I purchased a Big Deal coupon for Bay Area Heating and Cooling. They made recommendations to some upgrades to improve the system, some work that I need to replace. They're very professional and timely. I would recommend them to anybody who wanted that service. Their prices are higher because they have a higher quality and higher performance than anybody around.

Bay Area Heating and Cooling did a great job for the service I hired them for. I just wanted to get a refund for the Big Deal because they ended up doing something different that I thought was part of the deal but I had to pay a little extra for it. But it was definitely worth it. Great company. They were able to actually locate the issue that was going on with my system. I thought it only required a simple cleaning but it was actually very complex. They offered me advice in moving forward. My system was under warranty so I got a piece for free based on their recommendation.

On April 3, Mark came to my daughter's house to perform an annual service. At that time I wrote that he went far and beyond what I had expected for the 30 some dollars I paid. This morning my daughter called to ask for their phone number and name since she had no A/C. A few minutes ago she called me back with the good news that the A/C was working. She had called Bay Area Heating and Cooling and had talked to Vicky at the office. Vicky explained that this could be due to fluctuation in the electricity and all the water we are presently having due to Tropical Storm Andrea. That my daughter should shut down the thermostat - then go to the braker panel and shut off the A/C switch - after a good minute of waiting to turn it back on - then go back into the house and turn on the thermostat. At that moment the A/C kicked in :-) Vicky was being wonderful about the whole incident and we are very happy once again!

It turned out good. They did what they were suppose to do, gave me an estimate for other work to do. The estimate was too much so I went with another company. I told them where everything was for the tune up. They called me to let me know what I had to take care of right away. The company I brought in for a second opinion did not find any immediate repairs and my AC is working.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that we purchased. We were so pleased we bought a service contract. My husband had called because it was an after hours call. He told my husband that if we purchased the deal and bought the service contract, it would be about the same as him coming out that night. We really appreciated his candor in advising us how to get the best deal. We scheduled a time for them to come out. He checked everything and made a few recommendations to my husband. He told him stuff that we could do and what results we would get. Sooner or later we are going to have to replace the air conditioner. He gave us a lot of recommendations. He phenomenally improved the temperature of the A/C in the house. It gets much colder faster and the compressor doesn't run all the time to keep it cool. For us, it has been fantastic.
