Authentic Hardwood Flooring

Authentic Hardwood Flooring was the sub-contractor for the hardwood flooring and stair installation on a remodel project we recently completed. We were assured by our contractor (Van Selow Design Build) and by Gordon that his company had the necessary skills to install not only flooring, but also the hardwood on the stair treads, nosing, and risers in our master bedroom. Unfortunately, this was not the case at all, and we had to locate and pay another contractor to tear out the work and redo our stairs. As the accompanying photos reveal, the installer did a very poor job on our stairs. See the photos that show poor cuts on the nose, risers and treads. There are gaps between the flooring on the treads and the nose. The nose sits higher than the treads creating an area that is easily damaged through normal use, and creates an uneven and unattractive stair surface. Materials were apparently cut with a dull blade which damaged the edges of the hardwood. On one of the landings the nose was not attached properly and was loose almost the entire length across the width of the landing. This created a dangerous condition since this area is constantly walked on while using the stairs. A butt joint was made on one of the corner risers where a 45 degree angle had agreed to be done. The installer also ran short on material and we were told this would take additional time to re-order and come back to re-install. We were so distraught and upset with the job that we had to refuse to allow them back into our home. For some reason, Gordon never arrived on the day of the installation to check up on his installer or to follow through with any type of inspection. Of course, we informed our contractor (Van Selow Design Build), and also called Gordon to express our disappointment, yet he never returned our call. To top it off, no apologies were ever offered. They made us feel like we had expected too much, but as you can see from the photos; this is definitely not the case at all. Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed and cannot recommend this company.

I was impressed that unlike many other companies I called for a quote, which was sometimes answered by operators, the owner, Gordon, personally answered my call and was friendly and eager to accommodate and make it work according to my time frame. I appreciated his simple honest approach without trying to sell me unnecessary wood replacements like some of the other companies did. His price was also most reasonable. Roberto, who did the actual sanding and restoration did a miraculous job and did not stop until he was satisfied that he could not beautify it further. I highly recommend them.

They did an amazing job. Godon is very responsive, always returned calls and addressed concerns. I didn't realize that the floors were going to look as good as they do now. The new wood blends in with the other 18 year old wood you can't tell the difference.

The experience with them was absolutely horrible. I had to have the floors completely removed and redone by another company. I didn't make the last payment. He didn't have a full crew, he just had one man, the man was a horrible person. He tore up the old flooring and put down the base flooring in a very bad manner. It was wavy, and you could see dips in it. It was discolored, it had a film on it. The thresh hold that he used were not correct, and they were dangerous, you could stand on one side of my townhouse, and see the floor going in waves. It never shined up, and it looked horrible. I gave them an opportunity to come back and fix it because my lawyer told me to, and they made it worse. Some of the repairs that they did was worse then when they had fixed it. Finally I kicked him out of my house. They were not apologetic at all. They were like I was being picky. I had two other companies come in, and see if they could repair it, and they said that they could not. They said it looked like a DIY job. I had lost my sister at the same time, and so I just could not deal with it. Then a couple of months later, I got another company to come and redo it. The owner of the company was out of town when it was being done, and when I tried to call him, he was in North Carolina, and he was there most of summer.

They are very professional, on time, very clean. I am very pleased.
