Everything was done first class!
Description of Work: This was our second job by American Structural Services LLC. The first job involved repairing deteriorated rebar and installation of supports. The most recent job was repairing supports to our pool deck and installing additional support in another location. Mark Wendel and his crew did an excellent job each time and this last time Mark noticed a cracked pool deck support and returned to repair same at no extra cost.

Description of Work: After numerous calls to set appt. I was finally contacted by company. They said they were busy with many jobs and would come out to check my property and let me know when they could come out to do the work. I was told they would be at my home on the next Friday. They did not come or call. I called them and left message but never received call back. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

Description of Work: I emailed this company through Angies List and received a phone call from Mark the next day. He advised that he would not be able to get to my job before Monday,March2 and he would call the weekend before to confirm. After not hearing from him, I once again sent a message through Angies List but have never heard back and today is March 10. A courtesy phone call to me would have been appropriate even if he could not do the work or wasn't interested in the job. Its too bad because he has glowing reviews for the work he has completed.

Mark came out to do an estimate on a home I was looking at buying. We knew the foundation was in bad shape and likely needed to be entirely redone, but wanted to see how far the termite damage went (i.e. how far up the walls, etc) and what it would cost to do a total replacement. Mark could've told me sure, it's repairable, etc as it would've been a large and very profitable job for him. However, he advised me that in his honest opinion, I shouldn't actually buy the home as the termite damage clearly went up the side walls significantly and replacing the foundation still wouldn't give me a structurally sound home. He did not gain a job at that time but he did gain my trust and I would certainly feel comfortable calling him should the house I finally decide to buy has any sort of foundation issues! Thanks Mark!

So far so good. The owner, Mark Wendell, and his crew finished the job in one day. The job was done neatly as well. I used American Structural before for another drainage problem and would highly recommend their services.

Mr. Wendel was very prompt in responding to my initial phone call. Came all the way down from Largo to Sarasota the very next day. I liked his manner -- very friendly, but focused almost entirely on business. I could tell right away he knew what he was talking about. Great to meet a real no-nonsense guy who wasn't trying to seduce or scare me into paying for a lot of unnecessary extras. He came to do the work more than a week earlier than planned after asking me if that would be all right. Naturally, I was delighted. He completed the work very neatly in just one day, and was kind enough to charge me less than I had anticipated, because things had gone more smoothly than either of us had expected. I thought that more than decent of him. Others who bid on the job told me there would be extensive interior damage. Mr. Wendel did what was necessary for a litle more than half of what others sought to charge. We got along so well I have invited him to bring Mrs. Wendel to Sarasota to have dinner with me at my expense, if they would like. I believe one of the reasons things went so well was that I understood the problem, and was able to tell him exactly what was needed, and what I hoped we could achieve.
Description of Work: Jacked up a sagging foundation on the Utility Wing of a rental property. Added concrete pads for the support piers, added a new beam and strengthened one the existing sills. At my request extra piers were added to give extra support to the center of the addition.

Mark met us at the property and spent a good deal of time listening to us and our future plans for the property, and discussing various plans of action for leveling the home. He provided timely quotes for leveling on the existing piers and leveling with new footings with a concrete foundation. At the time of our meeting we had also discussed potential additions to the home, and Mark provided a quote to encompass that plan as well. However, after running into other issues associated with the home, and needing to travel out of state, we decided to put the work on hold until a later date. We found Mark to be very professional and knowledgeable, as well as a very down to earth individual. We have complete confidence that American Structural would provide quality work, and therefore, are pleased to favorably recommend his services.

We can't say enough good things about Mark and his staff. We felt at home with Mark from the time he first came to talk to us about what we wanted to do. He took pains to understand that we didn't want to level the home back to its original 1926 condition, but to assure that no further settling occurred. In the end he recommended that we actually raise several areas by about a 1/2 inch and install additional supports since the homes built then generally had one main beam down the middle, just as ours does. Over the years, natural settling, the weight of interior walls, our second floor, and heavy granite countertops had caused gradual dips between the center support beam and the exterior walls. He was punctual for our first appointment and appeared with his crew just when promised to do the work. He was under the home with his crew and continuously checked with us concerning our satisfaction after the installation of each beam and checked all doors above the new beams to make sure all operated properly. The floor is now more firm underfoot and the "doming/cresting/crowning" of the floor in one of the rooms has been visibly reduced. Fantastic! The amount of knowledge Mark has about moving buildings and adding support to structures is truly amazing! Having him present on the job was certainly an additional plus. These type of repairs are expensive and require certain technical skills that most people obviously don't have. Finding the right contractor is certainly the most important thing. We are so pleased that we found American Structural on Angie's list and found that his straight A rating is well deserved.

While cleaning my cement garage pad I pointed my water hose at a crack that had appeared between my wall footings and the floor, and water flowed into that crack and never filled up. I feared the worse -- foundation damage or the start of a sink hole. About three hours after I called, Miked showed up and told me I had nothing to fear. The "floating" garage floor was designed that way and that crackes along the walls were normal. He inspected my entire foundation and told me everything was then, then he gave me pointers about how I could divert water away from my foundation to prevent water damage from the rain the pours from the roof during downpours. In all, he spent nearly an hour at my home. I know that if I ever need foundation repair, Mike's the person I'd call because he's personable and knows his business.
Description of Work: Calmed my fears about what I thought was major structural faults with my garage foundation.

Mark installed extra support beams in between the main beam which ran down the middle of the house and the sides. The goal was to stabilize the structure, ensure that it could take the extra load of built in book shelving, and correct and stabilize the sagging in the kitchen, while making sure that the correction was not so much as to cause cracks in the walls to form (the kitchen floor ended up being lifted by about 3/4"). This work was performed before I moved in. Because I had to move out of my old house by a certain date, Mark was able to accommodate my schedule by working through the weekend, and at the same time as my wood floors were getting sanded and refinished. Overall I was very pleased with Mark's work. The change in the kitchen floor was noticeable. This is not an inexpensive service, but overall I thought it was well worth it to correct, giving me the piece of mind that this old house has a properly supporting foundation.
Description of Work: Recently purchased a 1910 wood frame home in old northeast area of St. Petersburg. Noticed some hairline cracks in the kitchen tile, and promptly called Mark, from whom I had already obtained some advice for some driveway cracks in my previous house. He identified the problem as sagging of the floor joists between the support beams underneath the floor, possibly due to the last kitchen remodel adding too much extra weight to older floor joists. In addition, I was going to do some work on the fireplace and add some built in wood shelves on the other side of the house and wanted to make sure sagging would not happen there.

Once it was determined that we had structural damage due to a live termite infestation, I contacted several potential contractors to get the process started. When I called American Structural Services Mr. Wendel was actually on a short vacation out of state, however he still answered the call and was helpful from the very start. We agreed to meet once he returned several days later for a consultation. It took a short time to schedule the work, however Mr. Wendel was extremely understanding about our circumstances and I really appreciate that he was patient and returned my voice mail messages. It is rare that a service provider is so understanding. Once the date was set, they came on-time and ready to do the job. The scope of work needed to be determined since it was not clearly apparent at the beginning. Again, Mr. Wendel was up-front and very much in touch with us during the entire process. The necessary work was done and we are very pleased with all aspects of the experience.
Description of Work: American Structural Services provided all labor and materials for said scope of work to be performed. Set Jacks, lift house corner approximately 1/2", remove and replace floor joists and rim beam, sub floor , stem wall plate. Also removed and replaced additional wall studs as required due to termite damage. Removed all debris.

Mark did a very thorough job. His explanations were detailed and he recommended practical solutions. Well -- see above
Description of Work: Called Mark to take a look at some driveway cracking issues on the corner of my home. Mark confirmed my suspicions that the problem was due to erosion. I had a concern about whether this would affect my foundation / slab. Mark was very helpful, answered all my questions, and did not attempt to sell me any work i did not need. In the end he determined the problem was minor and could be corrected just adding fill dirt in that area to compensate for the erosion (I will add some retaining landcaping as well). He was kind enough to offer to deliver it for free, as it was a very small amount. Recommended.

I contacted Mr. Wendel who was professional, and answered all questions. He assured me that the project would be completed in a timely manner and within the costs quoted. It was! Mr Wendel is conscientious and hard working. He has good work ethics. He obtained all permits. He is also licensed and insured which is what you would want if someone were working under your home.
Description of Work: Erosion issues . A deeper pier was constructed, placed in, and the area was re-inforced with concrete. The house had no foundation issues. (per a structural engineer, and a certified inspector), However since 1925, that because of the rains that occured over the years, some soil had been washed away under one pier and it would loose its underfooting if not shored up.

Mark was highly recommended to us by a neighbor who also owns a 1925 home. We called him because we noticed some low spots in your floors. His inspection was thorough, his recommendations were practical, and his work was absolutely impeccable. Mark examined all previous work that had been done under our home and found several places that had been supported incorrectly. He removed the ineffective supports and replace them, as well as adding more supports where needed. While he was under the house, he noticed that our water pipes were not insulated and offered to wrap the pipes at no additional cost. He was polite, professional, intelligent, and diligent in making sure all work was perfect. I was very impressed. We've worked with several contractors since we moved here and Mark's work was far, far better than anything else we've had done. He was truly a pleasure to work with.
