Micah responded and professionally analyzed the existing 19 y/o system, suggested that it be replaced. I had them out on a oldie last year and they nursed itback to health for $200, so I believed him. Quoted $5200 for a 2.5 ton unit with an air handler in a hard to get part of the attic. The people are great, servce timely and I trust them to do a great job. Highly recommended!

At one time they put a new unit in for us. It's 14 years old now. The first 5 years it was expensive. They were here every 6 weeks. There was a winter it was 39 and I had no heat. There was a day it was 93 and I had no air, and I actually gave them an 'F' rating. We've continued to use them, because thank God somebody took a personal interest in it and researched it and went to the company and found out this was a common problem & there was a part that would fix it. They put in the part in and we've had no problems. They actually fixed it, I remember specifically because I was out of town with my kids. They fixed it about 10 years ago. It was a long time ago. They come every year and it's been fine. I'd rather leave the price blank because it would be a little deceiving. We have a filter up in the attic which adds $100 on every year. I wish we hadn't done that, but we did. So the price would be deceiving so I don't want to put a price. On responsiveness I had to make several phone calls before I got a return call. They were probably just busy. One person came out to complete the work. It took them half an hour to complete the job. They're not a mess but you have to clean up a little bit after. It's fine. It's almost what you would expect from a service person. It's definitely not a mess.

I negotiated what would be included in the new ac system with Stuart Long, the Air Flow owner. Stuart was knowledgeable, flexible, responsive and reasonable in including some extras, like a humidistat in the package. He also accommodated me on including a metal hood on the condenser. We agreed that American Standard was a superior system, and the system we discussed was a 14.5 level SEER rating, which was higher than the other bids I received. The price was similar to that of FAST and Encore systems of Pinellas, but included more and better elements. Premium Services of Pinellas wanted to install a Goodman system which Consumer Reports calls inferior. I was not interested in that. My system is around one week old. The workmen returned to finish up a few small items as promised. I am very happy with the system and the work which was done. The price came in t a little under $5K, which was a bit more than I wanted to pay but included extras. I want to endorse Stuart Long and his company (Air Flow/Erwood). They delivered a very good product at a very reasonable price and did so in a very pleasant manner. It is now eight months later. In November 2015 the new unit shut down, ostensibly because it was wired incorrectly to the humidistat. The unit has frozen up twice now. I am not due in Florida until Feb 2016. I have shut the unit down. Workman did come out, but had to be called back a second time to fix the problem. At this point I don't know if it has been fixed. I also was disappointed when the company owner, Stuart Long never returned my phone calls himself. This was in contrast to his constant availability when I was having the unit installed. I will know in a month what my rating of Air Flow/Erwood will be. It is not the A+ I originally granted. I am still waiting for a callback from the owner.

I have used airflo erwood to maintain my aircon since buying my home 10 years ago. Last year I had them put in a new system. they met with me and went over all my options and worked with my schedule to install. After it installed there was an issue with the system ( not their fault, , it was related to manufacturer) and they helped me resolve it as quickly as possible. They set up a portable a/c because the part needed was not ready. Prior to getting my new system, whenever I had a cooling or heating issue, they would resolve and show me what I could do to fix if it happened again. Additionally, they serviced my old system for years and were able tohelp me prepare to get a new one by letting me know how long the old one would last and when it would probably need replacement so it was not a surprise.

I wanted a high efficient unit that would cool my house down and keep it that way during the hottest summer months. They supplied a 4.5 ton unit with a 15.5 SEER rating. Our heat pump started to not cool the house, naturally it happened on the Fourth of July. I called for someone from Air-Flo/Erwood to come and check it out. Tony C called back in about 15 minutes. He came to the house within an hour and figured out the problem right away. He de-iced the coil and put in freon. Then he checked for leaks and found everything was OK. He saved our day.

After calling them to check on a unit that was not cooling, I was told that I needed to replace a unit that was only five years old because there was a leak in a coil that could not be repaired. To their credit, the owner did a follow-up call and after I explained what had happened, refunded my service call fee.

This was the date of the final service call, when my heat pump AC system was declared dead (it was limping along, barely working and running up incredibly high power bills until then). I had stuck with this company since 2001, when they actually were a good service company and I had them install a new (cheap) unit and replace ductwork that had been chewed by rats. Sometime, around five or six years ago their quality began to slide, and I feel like a real idiot for not giving them the boot sooner--the technician told me three years ago that it would cost $7,000-$10,000 to replace the system, and I just felt it was hopeless. Even so, I called their sales department (assuming they still have one) to talk about replacement, and I never got a call back. I finally decided I had to call another company, whatever it cost, when the tech from Erwood told me that I needed to relocate the air handler from the attic into the kitchen (on the first floor). After that I did what I should have done years ago and called a reputable company (Bay Area Heatingand A/C) who came over the next day, gave me an estimate and qualified me for a payment plan that will allow me (with the high efficiency tax credit, power company rebate, and senior discount) to pay the whole thing off within the year. There is no good reason to use Airflo Erwood--in the end they aren't even cheap, when you add up the cost of power, discomfort, etc.
Description of Work: Installed heat/AC system and ductwork in 2003, maintained (twice annual service) through spring 2010, date above is final service call when that system was found to be beyond repair.

Biggest complaint was that when furnace was replaced, cooling coil (which was obviously very old) should have been replaced also. I was not asked about this or quoted a price for this at that time. Putting new furnace around an obviously old coil was not professional, and I am sure resulted in significant additional cost. In addition, when heat was turned on in late November, there was no heat, and the on/off switch in the furnace was set to off. I followed the start-up instructions in the furnace, and the furnace started and the burner ran for less than 15 minutes, after which the blower stayed on and would not respond to the thermostat controls. This of course happened on Saturday, and it was Monday before a new circuit board could be installed and the furnace repaired. While there is no way to prove this, my suspicion is that the heat was never tested when the furnace was installed, as the main for replacing the furnace was to get the AC working.
Description of Work: New furnace installed in 7/09 ($3000) after blower motor failed. Following this, AC compressor failed in 8/09 and replaced at cost of $3563. After this was done, cooling coil in furnace (which was very old) failed and was replaced at cost of $1275.

The next Service Contract call in Feb 2009. The first Service Technician checked the system and could not figure out the problem of the air handler running when it was supposed to be off. The next Technician, (another service call) said he thought it was in the heating system and pulled it out and put it back in with no change to the problem. He said that the heater unit was a little bigger then the unit required and but it back in gently. Another Service Tech showed up a few days later, (third service call) and took the heater out and put it back in this time forcing it to fit the unit. After turning on the unit to check it the heating coil started heating up then broke sending parts of the coil into the blades of the air handler and making an extremely loud noises until it chewed the pieces of coil into little bits. The heater no longer worked after that. The fan keeps running at low RPM after it should be off. The next visit was by the owner Rick Erwood (owner) who said they would fix it if he could find a heater coil for it. He also said that they were under no obligation to fix something if it gets broke during a Service Call. My comment was how can you say that when my heater was working before his Technician worked on it and did not work when he left. I can verify this on the Service Notes. I called the office to follow up and I was informed that he did not have a heating coil in his shop. I told him that I had found the replacement part on a web site and would send him a link to it. The part listed as $188.00. I gave him all the information he needed to buy the part. Fast forward to today, almost 7 months later. They called me in September for another Service Contract call and I asked them what about the replacement of the heater coil they broke? I was called back by the office personnel to tell me that if I buy the part they will install it. I told them that was unacceptable and that I was terminating my service contract and to give me a refund on the other half of the Service Contract. They sent me a check for $10.04. The note on the check stated that it was pro-rated. This does not make sense to me as each of the twice a year Service Calls would equate to $64.50. They pro-rated per month. They did not give me service calls per month but twice per year. So not only did they rip me off for the price of repairing the heater coil but they got me on the other half of the Service Contract. My conservative guess would be that to get the heater coil replaced will run between 300 and 500 dollars. What ever happened to the ethic you break it you pay for it? On top of the Service Contract it states "Service Makes the Difference" All I am asking for is for them to own up to what they broke and repair it at their cost, not mine.
Description of Work: I was under a yearly Service Contract to check AC & Heating twice a year. Back in Aug 2008 on a Contract Service call during the inspection the technician accidentally knocked off a wire nut and caused a wire to short out and tripped the breaker. He checked a few more things after that and everything seemed to be working. It was a couple months later that I noticed that after the air handler had shut down from the thermostat that the fan in the air handler was still spinning (under power) at a low RPM. Which brings us to the Service Call in question.

Response from Air-Flo/Erwood Heating and Air Conditioning
We first came to service his HVAC system on 8/20/07. The system was blowing warm air. We diagnosed two bad capacitors and he purchased a "Maintenance Agreement". 8/31/07, a courtesy call was made to him at which time he said that he was very pleased with our service and wanted an estimate to replace the system. On 3/11/08 we did our maintenance inspection. The technician found the air handler insulation full of mold, fan cage very dusty, all wires had mold build up on them. The technician recommended to replace the system and noted that the air handler model and serial numbers could not be read. 8/26/08 we did our second and final inspection under the maintenance agreement. The technician's findings of the inspection is same as 3/11/08 inspection and again recommended to replace the system. He again renewed the maintenance agreement. 3/2/09 we did our first inspection under the agreement at which time the technician found the fan capacitor in the air handler very weak. The technician replaced the capacitor without charging him for replacing the capacitor that values at $119. The technician also noted that the 10 kw heater was not mounted to the air handler and noted that there was no screw to hold it down. The technician attempted to tighten the heater down, the heater shorted out. The technician removed the screw and the system started but needed a service technician to check the heater. On 3/4/09 the service technician rewired low and high voltage in the air handler. The system started and was working normal at this time. After he turned on the heat for a few minutes the heat strip broke. The technician recommended to replace the old heat strip due to age and condition. A service value of $159 was NOT charged to the customer. We have made every attempt to find a replacement heater by checking our inventory and incoming scraped air handlers. the age and unreadable model and serial number of the air handler made it impossible to locate the part. He says that he found the part on the internet, however, since the model and serial numbers of the air handler cannot be verified it would be impossible to know the part is correct. Furthermore, the heater in the air handler is too big which suggests that it was not the original heater. We do not accept fault with a system that has not been properly maintained or mismatched parts installed by others. Member requested to cancel his maintenance agreement on 9/4/09. He already had one of two inspections under the agreement performed on 3/2/09 an due for the second inspection. Our policy on a refund of the maintenance agreement is always based on a prorated scale because the customer has the benefit of a discount of fifteen percent of the cost of material and labor repairs. he has already received $278 in free service during March of 2009. He also signed all “job invoices" acknowledging satisfactory completed of the described work and agreed to the terms and conditions on the reverse side of those invoices. Furthermore, he not only has misstated our motto paperwork locations and dates of service, but also refused to accept that his HVAC is so old that it cannot be repaired and that he should replace the system. He continues to use a system that is not healthy or energy efficient. He has known for more than two years that his HVAC system needs to be replaced due to the age and condition of it. If he wants to order and pay for the heater that he found on the internet we will install it at no charge and we will not guarantee that it will solve the problem for heat since we don't know if he would be able to order the correct heater. We have gone above and beyond to help his HVAC problems and have incurred time and money in an attempt to satisfy him. We recommend that no more time, energy, or money be wasted by both sides of this matter and that he accept ownership responsibility. We would be very happy to discuss with him all current government, distributor and energy rebate options available on a new installation of his HVAC system. Joyce Zierden-Comptroller

We had a lot of problems and the ceiling was damaged and was leaking. The drain wasn’t right and the units up in the attic and the ceiling came down in our closet. Some of the rooms also wouldn’t get cooled and they come back and try to correct things. We were trying to get them in around the time when we were doing our construction and they tried blaming things on the contractor. We had 5 different A/C people in and they all said that they did not do the job correctly. We tried to get a resolution and we were not happy, we got so sick of it that we hired someone else to do the job. We took them to small claims court to reclaim the money. The quality was okay, but the service was not. I would not use them again.
