Never use ADT. This is a lesson I learned the hard way. Yes, they will install a system and hook it up to be monitored (for about $40/month). But once the monitoring contract is up you will want to move the monitoring to another service that costs a lot less. There are monitoring services out there that only charge $9.95/mo. or even $5.95/mo. BUT you will not be able to switch it to another monitoring service because ADT RIGGS THEIR SYSTEM SO THAT IF YOU EVER MOVE TO A CHEAPER MONITORING SYSTEM THE ADT HARDWARE WILL RING AND RING AND RING INCESSANTLY, NIGHT AND DAY. AND THERE IS NO WAY TO SHUT IT OFF OTHER THAN SIGNING BACK WITH ADT AND ACCEPT THEIR $40/MO. MONITORING FEE. Don't let ADT fool you like they fooled me. There are plenty of good hardware/monitoring services out there like Tampa Bay Security that will do what ADT does with monitoring of only $9.95/mo. Go with one of them. Do not let ADT trick you into being another patsy of theirs.

Ran from them like a Frenchman from a Cap gun...
Description of Work: Had ADT alarm service at my business over 7 years. Almost 5 years at first location, then relocated alarm to new location with a new 2 year lease. After 2 years, was moving to a new larger location and wanted to move equipment. ADT said that it was too expensive to move it and I needed to purchase all new equipment. Very expensive. Now almost 7 years with ADT, they said the current location I was moving from only had the service there for 2 years and unless I bought all new equipment and renewed for 3 more years that I had to pay almost $400- in early termination fees. Salesman said he can get me a 2 year contract. They upped the service to almost $60 a month and wanted to gouge me on all new equipment. Total Ream job.. I did not go for it. I bought all new Honeywell equipment cheaper and we installed a wireless system ourselves. Monthly service is only $15- bucks! If you deal with ADT, you are going to waste a ton of money, not to mention False alarms... It was so bad that ADT gave us a credit last year. When the sales guy heard I wasn't signing with ADT, he wanted to offer me a better deal. NO way.

We had them for about a year. We have been in touch with them on and off because either the phone isn't working or the alarm system is working. They can't seem to get it right. The monthly cost was about $40/month, but we stopped services with them because of the difficulties. We have had ADT in the past and it was just as difficult.

They've been great and we've used them for a couple of years. They were prompt and came when they were supposed to. They had to come several days before the job was complete. They had to hide the wiring because our attics don't connect so they had to run conduits up through the roof. The cameras are awesome, they have night vision.
Description of Work: We had 5 cameras put in. They had to run wires from one side of the house to the other, up through the attic and we had 3 separate attics.

Not very well. This company has great heartfelt TV ads, but thats where the conection with the customer ends. Their monitoring is good and the signs look good in your yard but otherwise they have no connection with you except the charge on your card each month. After the 3 month contract was over, I went month to month for a while just because of lack of attention on my part. When I discovered it was up I called to cancel. They had the nerve to tell me I have to give them a 30 day notice. I new this wasn't true since there was not contract. When I forced the issue she said she got an OK to waive this requirement. They were just trying to pry one more payment out of me. I am sure a lot of people fall for this. Keep in mind this type of behavior doesn't occur unless it is Okayed by management. It is clear to me based on their behaviour they don't care about customers or customer service. I think they think they are too big to worry about me cause I am just one guy. My prediction is this will come back to haunt them.
Description of Work: Nothing but charge me a monthly fee for 3 years because of my contract. They didn't have to install a pennies worth of equipent but wanted a 3 year contract because that is "industry standard". Once I signed the contract I never heard from the rep again. It was like he disappeared from the face of the earth.

After I switched to Vonage the ADT system could not connect to the monitoring service. From that point on every morning at 4:15 a.m. the ADT keypad would beep without stopping. I had to wake up and hit the cancel button to stop it from beeping. The system was not like this before ADT installed their system. Before they installed their system if I was not connected to monitoring there would be a visual reminder on the keypad but no beeping sound without end at 4:15 every morning. I do not want monitoring at this point, but I would like to set the system so that the alarm will go off if someone breaks in. I can't do that with the system ADT installed. Either I have to disconnect the system from A/C altogether (and have no security functionality) OR I have to attach it to monitoring (which I don't want to do now). Before ADT I could set the alarm system WITHOUT having the system monitored. ADT has an obligation to return my security system to the way it was (being able to set the system but not have it connected to monitoring and not having the non-stop beeping every morning). I called them and asked them to do this and they refused.

This is the Second time we cancelled ADT service with pretty much the same problems. Previous experience: about 5-6 years ago we decided to cancel our ADT monitoring services for poor service delivery and calling on alarms. We had to battle for about 3 months to get the billing stopped. We swore we would never use ADT again. This go around we ended up as ADT customers not by choice but because of several acquisitions of our service providers that were eventually gobbled up by ADT. Things were OK until we needed to cancel our service because we had sold our home. Upon notifying ADT with about 30 days advance notice they told us they couldn't just accept cancellation by phone or online and that we had to fill out a form requesting cancellation and mail it in to the specified address. I accepted their reasoning and complied with a mailing the next day. Here we are almost 3 months after the move and discontinuance of the phone line and their charges continue to hit my credit card. When I called to complain they tell me they have no record on my written request. After raising h*** they agreed to cancel the service and billing effective that date but no action possible on the billing to original cancellation date. My next complaint will be to the BBB.

I called and told them that I wanted to stop the service because I sold the house. They answered that I had to pay until the end of the contract. I told them that I had never seen a contract with that clause. Thy answered that it was their standard policy and I had to pay. I believe that it is quite unfair to make people pay for a service that will not be performed. The problem is that credit reporting is stacked against consumers and I will have to pay for that reason.
Description of Work: I had to stop the service because I sold my house.

When we realized he had left a piece of paper, we opened the door and found it was a poorly photocopied ADT offer with a lot of scrawled annotations about the fact that the prior alarm company (stickers in windows) now belonged to ADT (underlined multiple times), handwritten discounts (beyond those on the form), a number of other notes that had so many misspellings we aren't sure what was meant to be communicated. This was an "authorized ADT dealer" and there were several phone numbers, highlights, scribbles, circles, underscores. All in all, we felt that if the presentation was this sloppy and unprofessional, we couldn't expect the service to be different. We will not be calling ADT.
Description of Work: We were planning to call ADT for an estimate when a man came to the door (unsolicited), rang the bell and drove away. Only he didn't quite leave; he stayed in the neighbor's driveway seemingly to see if we came to the door. We took it as a prank and did not come out.

During our contract, we had alarm events in which it took ADT over 10 minutes to respond by phone. Since I was no longer confident in their service, I cancelled in March of 2008 when our contract was due for renewal. Since then, I have lived in the same house and have not heard from ADT except for offers to renew my service. This past month (Feb, 2013), I received a hit on my credit report (dropping my score 100 points) from a collection agency (Pentagroup Financial) for $220 for ADT. I researched this collection agency and they have 13 Federal cases pending against them for violation of the FCRA as well as dozens of complaints with the Better Business Bureau. When I called ADT for help with this matter, they agreed to send me a copy of my contract from 2005 as well as a history of my payments. When I called 2 weeks later, they had no record of my having made this request and also (of course) no record of my having cancelled my service with them in March of 2008 and so I owed them a cancellation fee (for not renewing a 3 year contract which had been paid up front, on time, for each year of the contract period). Yet, instead of sending a bill to the service address at which I have continued to reside, this supposed fee was sent for collection 5 years later. I have not received anything in writing yet from either ADT or this collection Agency despite my repeated phone calls. Had I known how vindictive ADT would be I never would have contracted with them. This is not a company I would recommend based on their service (which was poor), and even had the service been excellent, they are not to be trusted. Beware.
Description of Work: I contracted with ADT in March of 2005 to install a wireless system with cell phone back up. We paid some 1000 for this installation and then the year's service up front. We had a 3 year contract, ending in March of 2008 at which time I cancelled the service.

They come every two months for three years now, so we're getting on a first-name basis with the guy who came and do the repairs. Last time I told them that if it breaks again we're changing company; they came in and completely replace the system. One time when I called them, it's Monday, they told me that they cannot send anybody until Thursday. And then when Thursday came they called and said that the guy will be coming the next day, so I was a little frustrated because I spend the whole waiting for them.
Description of Work: I have using ADT for my alarm system for three years.

It was already in our house so we upgraded our system. They were here when they said they would be. They did everything they said they would do. They charged us what they said they wold charge and if we have a problem they are rite ont top of it.

The house we purchased had an ADT alarm system already installed. In March of 2010 we decided to have the system activated to be monitored by ADT. ADT installed 2 additional smoke detectors and a motion detector for $122.50. The system was activated the system through our phone landline and we have paid the $30 plus per month for monitoring service. In October of 2011 we decided to terminate our phone landline. We contacted ADT to terminate our monitoring service. They informed us that we had a 3 year contract and the termination cost would be over $400. WHY? Because that was the contract and didn't involve any equipment. We paid for all of the equipment that was installed. To continue the monitoring service we will have to have a wireless tranmiter installed and pay an additional $15.00 per month! WE were also told that their system is NOT compatable with Magic Jack, a computer phone system. BEWARE OF ADT SMALL PRINT!

They are easy to deal with and it just works. In comparison to another company, they seemed to be a decent company. They are pretty responsive and professional. I would use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used the services of ADT Security Services for burgers alarm. The last interaction I had with them was when the power went out, about two weeks ago. I spent about $50 a month. They do call monitoring and fire monitoring for me.

Whenever there is an issue, they will call me. I have had good experiences from them and have had no issues or complaints against them. When I call them and ask questions, they respond immediately. My alarm had gone off a couple of times and I got a phone call within a minute from them regarding it.

ADT - Alarms They are great ! We put them in a home that we were remodeling on. They are really technically creative, in overcoming conditions, like we ran into with the wiring in that house. They got the alarm system in, and it was very well done. Good job, very responsive, and good follow up.

I have had ADT for approximately 7 years due to a discount given through my insurance company. I finally switched to another company despite it costing more per month. I found the ADT equipment shoddy, with sensors going off for no reason, falling off their mount, etc. Tech support was willing to send out a technician for $111 the first half hour and would charge me for replacing their malfunctioning equipment. They do offer a service plan, but I found it too expensive compared what is offered by some of their competitors. Some of whom offer lifetime service and labor, including batteries. On the plus side, I did find their response time to be very good.

I felt we were duped into buying $1700.00 worth of hardware, I looked up the retail prices of some of the components (Amazon.com) and learned I was billed $150.00 for each door sensor that sells on line for $49.00. I would guess ADT has good monitoring service but I could not sleep (really, I was so upset I did not sleep) due to the fact that in my opinion, I was overchaged for the system, and not just a little, but tripple what it sells for.
Description of Work: We wanted to upgrade our home security system, ADT sent us an offer to intall the system for $100.00. We made the appointment, an installer arrived (on time), he seemed knowledgable about the system and what we needed. He then informed us that the $100.00 was to install the system, however, we had to buy the hardware in advance. He would not quote us a price, he said you can't put a price on security like this. He finally "Ballparked" the price at $1000.00, I reluctantly agreed to this, an hour later he hands me an invoice for $1700.00, I was very updet but paid it. ADT offers a three day period that allows you to change your mind. We called other security companies with similar monitoring and found they do not charge for the equipment, so we cancelled the contract with ADT, and a few months later we were refunded our money.

They refurbished the system completely. They did a good job and the price reasonable.

From the very beginning, Art (the sales representative) went out of his way to answer my questions and provide me with the information that I needed. He came to my house, and we had a long discussion about my options. He even offered to come back again to speak with my wife, who was not home at the time, to answer any questions that she might have. (This was in stark contrast to the other big alarm company who gave me zero personal contact and misled me about the differences between their system and the Brinks/Broadview system.) The installation went very smoothly, and the installer even helped me run some antenna wire through the crawlspace while he was here. He didn't need to do that, but it was a HUGE help to me. The day after the installation, Art called to check in to ensure that everything was to my satisfaction. The next week, I called the Brinks/Broadview customer service line with some questions, and they were even friendly and helpful. Overall, I am very pleased with how professional they have been.
