Description of Work: He came, measured door and window, said they would call with an estimate. IT NEVER HAPPENED!!! I would have appreciated a phone call at least. I would never call them again, no matter how large or small a job. If anyone asked me to recommend them, it would not happen....

Never went. We waited eight weeks for him to show up and when he did not we hired someone else.
Description of Work: We had used John a couple of years ago for repairing rotten fascia. He had done a good job before and so we called him again. He came promptly to look at the job and gave an estimate. I told him to go ahead with the job. He said that the wood would be a special order so it may take a week or so. We said fine. Two weeks went by and no John. I called and the lady said that the wood was not cut yet and that they would get back with me when they had it. Two more weeks went by and she said that we would have to be patient. They would get back to us. Eight weeks went by and I hired another handyman who came one day and in two days he was back to fix it. I called 1st class handyman as a courtesy to let them know that I had hired someone else. The lady said that her grandmother had died and that they were very upset by that and that is why they never came. She never said this in any of our previous conversations. If that were so she should have told me that when I called back several times during the eight weeks.

The story is explained above. Start to finish.
Description of Work: I called and left a message that I have a problem that needs immediate attention (an opening in our eves). I just need a screen nailed in and I have the screen. I never had a return phone call. Very disturbing when you have something that needs attention immediately. They could have at least called me. Now it is the weekend and I don't have any help. I mentioned when I left a message that we suspect that the opening could be exposing us to mice or rats. When your members ignore customers and members they should not have an A rating.
It was a big job. It had to be inspected afterwards and the inspector was so impressed with the work that they did. I was very pleased with the work they did for me. He is a very smart man and able to size up the job and what's required very quickly.
Description of Work: He had to replace a lot of rotten wood on our house and he came with an electrician.

Very pleased with entire installation. The initial appointment was interrupted by storm damage and loss of power throughout neighborhood for two days, Fortunately, an alternate appointment was easily arranged with the following week. I initially intended to replace a second louvered bifold door with a new six panel bifold door. But all solid wood paneled bifold doors are special order, and quite expensive. Still looking, and hope 1st Class Handyman is available for that installation as well.
Description of Work: An old aluminum bifold door had to be replaced. Job was particularly challenging since the bottom track of the original door was firmly tiled in place, with the increased risk of damaging the surrounding tile by attempting to remove that old track. John, the 1st class handyman, was able to make necessary modifications and avoid removing the old bottom track embedded in the tile floor. A new solid core, louvered wood door was then successfully fit into the available space. Superb work, effective and efficient, and a great price.

I could not be more pleased! The telephone conversation, the timing, the job done were all excellent. John cleaned up afterwards, and no mess was left behind. This was a very difficult job to put in new screening in our Lanai, as John had to work around in a very small space, due to a lot of too large trees in the way. Every aspect of this job was very satisfactory. I would definately use 1ST Class Handyman Services any time for any job!
Description of Work: This is a 1st class company! Our Lanai screening had blown out in parts or had holes in it about 50%. John Mongeon did the repairs quickly and was very pleasant. He did an excellent job in a very difficult location. I would recommend him any time.

I contacted 1st Class Handyman Services Saturday, September 4th (the Saturday before Labor Day) and left a message asking them to return my call. They did so on Friday, September 10th... 4 business days after I left my message. I explained that another Handyman had returned my call the same business day, and that their services were no longer required. At that point, the woman returning my call aggressively pushed that I should let them come out and give a competing bid. I had to decline several times and eventually just hung up.

The work was well done. I did not get a written estimate, but should have asked for one. On the day it was to be installed, there was an initial misunderstanding about what work I wanted done (he thought it was just baseboards, I wanted baseboards & 1/4 round). He raised the initial quote slightly to accommodate me. Can't complain overall.

John came out and chiseled the hole as well as lowered the metal plate on the hole; the lock now fits in perfectly. The whole thing took him about twenty minutes. In my opinion, it was money well spent. Quick, to the point and professional. Recommended for any handyman type services. The dispatcher even gave me an exact quote the day before after I described the problem, which I found refreshing.

The day after I called, John came out to take a look at the work I wanted done and said he would call me with an estimate. While I waited several days for the estimate, John was able to schedule the work within a couple of days of that. When John arrived to do the job, I could tell that he already had a plan on how to do the work. He brought all the materials, worked fairly quickly but carefully and neatly, and cleaned up afterward - a terrific job! I was also very appreciative that he did the work - now that I have a working dryer vent, my quality of life has improved! Finding a capable handyman has not been easy for me, even with Angie's List - I haven't always gotten a call back. I will definitely call Ist Class Handyman Services for future projects I need to get done!

Terrible! - called in for info - no answer for 1 week; finally Diane called back saying her phone line was broken - John came by to check for work on Thursday; was supposed to get a quote on Friday; did not get - called back Friday and Monday to get quote; left msg for Diane; no call back - Diane calls back Thu and give me quote for $200 labor and they will go and get the material at HD - we are now 2 weeks late but I agree for following Friday in 7 days since John has no availability before - Diane calls on Tuesday wondering about me leaving msgs since we had agreed John would come Friday; I tell her that she is now responding to a message dating from 1 week back! - Friday comes; John is sick can't come; Diane calls and suggest following Tuesday after Labor Day; I agree - Tuesday come; no John; leave msg; Diane calls bk end of he day and tells me I had said Wed; I'm really surprised by this considering my project is now 3 weeks late because of 1st Class Handyman - John comes in Wed... with Chris his son So, how was the work with these 2 great specialists in the house? - get 30' linear and 1 small piece of wood 1/4" thick to screw against a door jamb from Home Depot; patch a few holes in the ceiling and do some paint touchup in the kitchen; move 3 toilets and washer/dryer that were temporarily stored in bedrooms and living room respectively to the garage this is a job that could easily be done by 1 man and that is exactly what happened. John works; Chris looks and submits opinions. So much so that when John is patching the ceiling for 2 little screw holes coming from a pot holder hanger I took out, Chris is down the ladder and directing his father as to how to apply mud on 2 holes the size of dime: "a little bit to the left.. less in the middle; ok.. ok.. yea maybe a bit in the right" Then I almost had to fight Chris when him and his father insisted I did not need to put an extra piece of wood in the door jamb and they just had to "readjust" the door. Fortunately, his father suddenly understood that I would not accept them just "adjusting" the door if they wanted to get paid so Chris piped down. then John painted the door jamb which meant he painted the outside wall with it because he did not put any blue painter tape so it really looks bad and I had to fix it myself once they left. as for the kitchen touch up, he forgot to touch up alongside the cabinet and the high bar which was work I had shown when he had passed by the house, as well as repeated in the morning. I trusted the work had been done when I paid and I did not check. My bad. It was not and the grout is still there: dark grey on the beige wall. then there are the baseboards: it was to replace 30' linear feet on a room that is about 60' so they painted the new baseboard and it looked like c*** because half the room baseboard looked old. I asked them to paint the extra 30' and also to help me move 3 old toilets to the garage as well as a washer/dryer 20 feet. Moving the toilets took Chris 15 minutes - except for 1 toilet his father helped him with; moving washer/dryer 20 feet with the both of them working! took less than 10 minutes; painting the extra baseboard 20 minutes: total 45 minutes. and I was charged $75 extra. When I pointed out John advertised his services at $35/hr he stated that there are 2 men. So why is it that only 1 guy works at any point in time? I don't mind paying $70/hr if the work is really 1 hour with 2 guys working, but if only 1 guy works at a time and it takes 2 hours to do the work of 1 hour that is really quadrupling the charge Oh yes! and what about material from Home Depot. $90 for that. $90 ?! I passed by Home Depot to check and it's $0.87/linear foot and the small wood piece was $1.90. With a bit of nails - because John did not screw the board on the door jamb as requested, he only nailed it - do the math. I bet no one will get to $90 material - with no material bill shown from Home Depot of course! How could he show material bills that would amount to $20-30 max with him charging $90? My recommendation: NEVER HIRE! UPDATE ======= I failed to see how they were refused the opportunity when they came to visit and check the work to be done first before executing, and were also responsible to buy the appropriate material to fix all these issues.
Description of Work: install 30' base board in room of 60' linear feet fit wood to fix door jamb patch 2 screw holes and 1 ex-lamp hole in ceiling touch up paint 5' long, close to ceiling

Response from 1ST CLASS HANDYMAN SERVICES INC
It seems there is quite a bit of confusion regarding the work performed. Setting up the initial appointment took time due to the member's balancing work while preparing to vacate one house and move into another. My messages would be returned around 5 or 6 in the evening, so scheduling was delayed. Both men worked the entire time, with Chris doing odd jobs that the member requested, without any additional charges. The other issues addressed are inaccurate to a degree that I'm not sure where to begin addressing. Any difference between paint colors, while unfortunate, could not be avoided as the client provided the paint. The door was fixed to the customer's specifications - however, the fix is quick and we would have preferred to have done the work for a permanent solution but were refused the opportunity. This miscommunication is very unfortunate but 1st Class Handyman always performs the highest quality of work and guarantee satisfaction.

Thought they'd be great based on Angie's List reviews and their initial professionalism, but was very disappointed. As it was I had to start calling handymen and getting quotes all over again.
Description of Work: Called handyman service because we needed repair done on exterior doors. Two men came out on time, were professional, and said they would get back to us within 2 days with a quote. Five days later I got a phone call from their office and the person said, "they can't do the job because they can't find the materials." The handyman who did do the job for us bought the materials at our local do-it-yourself store.

1st Class Handyman performed work for our business previously and the jobs went well. We asked them out again provide a quote on a mobile home renovation. Having recently been sued we told them that we would need them to furnish both liability and workman comp certificates. They indicated this was fine and when we provided them our indemnity agreement they also said that it would be no problem. After waiting many days for a quote and getting no response to our phone calls, we got a call telling us, in an unprofessional manner, that our requirements were too much for them. We lost time getting this job started and wasted energy following up with them. Very disappointing.
