John, the owner, was hired to fix a fan in the home I rent. He came out and didn’t have the part and said he would return the next day. Three days later we finally gave up and called him, he said he would come out and be able to get it running but he didn’t have the part. Once he arrived he was very rude and belligerent. He “fixed” the unit with wire ties sticking out of the fan grate with another promise to return to fix the unit. He never did. The unit failed again and he was called out. This time he arrived and once again was rude from the time the door was answered...first thing he said was, it feels cool in here (mind you it was 86 degrees in the house and a very humid day). He then goes to the unit and says it’s running fine...however the unit was powered off from the breaker and he says it’s running fine. He didn’t like that I told him the unit had no power on so he went to “fix” it. I then asked him about the wire ties to ensure it wasn’t being “rigged” up like he left it last time and he once again became biligerent and said “forget it, you can stay hot”. Left the unit pulled apart and left. He was paid for the fan to start with that he never did anything but rig up. Stay away from this guy, he’s a joke and unhinged.

We had two separate A/C-heating units and new ducts installed by AIRBOURNE, one small unit to cover a smaller area and one unit to cover a larger area. After the installation and paying in full, we had to call several times to get John Bourne of AIRBOURNE to follow-up on our concern that the larger unit of the two would shut off and on every 15 to 20 seconds when set on heat at 78 degrees or higher. This only happened on the heat setting, not when set on air conditioning. He finally came and checked it and told us that our filters were not changed frequently enough even though we were replacing the anti-allergen expensive filters every 2 to 6 weeks. However, after this visit, changing the filters nearer the 2 to 3 weeks mark seemed to help. Once our one-year approached, we called for him to conduct our annual service. This took several phone calls before he responded. When he did come, he said that he checked everything, found everything OK and charged $100. We thought this to be a fair charge for the annual service call Soon we had to call him again as now the larger unit was going off and on every 5 seconds. We called and left voice messages four times with no response. We decided to move forward and after investigating other businesses, we called another company and they found that one duct was folded in a "V" shape, thus causing undue pressure, therefore, making the larger unit to shut off and on. This new company also said that the two units were not separate units but that the ducts were connected. They took pictures to show me. They installed a "wall" to ensure two separate units and "un-crinkled" the crushed "V" shaped duct. The system then seemed to run without any problems...but only for a short period of time as the off and on episodes happened again. This new company we hired then returned, disconnected the large unit from the ducts and found that the unit was fine EXCEPT THAT THE UNIT IS TOO BIG FOR THE DUCTS IN THE ATTIC. THEREFORE, THE ONLY THING THAT CAN BE DONE IS NOT TO RUN THE HEAT ANY HIGHER THAN 72 DEGREES , thus keeping thew potential for pressure build-up to be controlled AND TO BUY PORTAL HEATERS FOR THE ROOMS THAT FELT COLD. In other words, this $20,000 job was inappropriately installed for the square footage of the house in consideration of the small attic space, thus the need for ducts not meeting the requirement for the larger unit. Because of the small space in the attic, this new company suggested that we consider ductless mini-units. Interestingly, I had suggested this to John Bourne but was told that it was too expensive and would need a lot of units to service the house. Now we are stuck with this A/C- heating unit. We are NOT pleased with this company, AIRBOURNE. I also contacted the contractor of this situation who had recommended John Bourne . I hope that this message will help others not to waste their monies on work poorly conducted and an attitude of not returning phone calls.

Response from Airbourne A/C, Inc.
This homeowner was very difficult to work with from the start to the point that the General Contractor threatened to pull all of us subs off the job various times during the installation. We installed the units properly and there were two separate systems. We responded every time we were called. We did not replace the duct work on the smaller system so they could not have been hooked together. We did a service check on the 1st year end, and everything was working fine. The "new" company she called obviously took advantage of the homeowner's mental state and told her and sold her something that she did not need. The idea of using mini-splits was never discussed. The first GC she hired ran away with her money. She fired my GC's electrician, flooring company, trim guy, and cabinet guys while I was on this job. Most of the other trades quit at one point and refused to work on this job.

I call Mr Bourne for a consult to reduce my electric bill from non stop usage of my under rated 5 ton builder grade AC unit. He was quick to recommend a mini split system. The unit was installed in few hours and working that night. As far as price he was able to beat the lowest price I found on the internet including the sales tax by more then 100.00. I was very happy with every aspect of the job especially the professional service I received. I will be able to pay for this new unit over the next 14 months from the saving on my electric bill. To sum it up he could of sold a much more expensive system but he listen to my needs and sold me what was best for me.
