We had gasket issues - even though the freezer was the side having frosting issues, Art knew that both gaskets needed replacement, even though you would think only the freezer side needed attention. After a few weeks, we had occasional melting issues. Art told us what to look for the next time it happened, as depending on the symptoms it could be one of two things. It turned out to be the computer board, which Art said is a known issue with these GE models. The nice thing is that besides fixing the problem, he educates you on how the thing actually works - and why the part he is replacing is causing the problem. Nothing beats having experience, and while many people could fix things, not many take the time to educate you at the same time.
Description of Work: We had frosting and melting issues in our GE refrigerator/freezer, which Art resolved.

He helped me to work the appliances as I was not familiar with the models. He was quick and efficient and asked me to call him if there was any problem. He was very professional and courteous.

Description of Work: He called immediately in response to my Angies List click. He worked with us over the phone to try to determine if we could fix the problem ourselves. When it was determined we needed a service call Art was at our house bright and early to help. He even made a stop at the end of his day to install the switch in the refrigerator. Thankfully, this solved the problem.

+ -1 moreArt called me back same day and asked me some questions regarding operation of washer. We thought it might be the water pump at first so he got a water pump and came by my house, even though it was late due to circumstances beyond his control. He called me twice to make sure I knew he was on his way. When he got here, the pump was not the problem, the computer board in the washer was the problem. He assured me he would get a new board the next day and call me back. I gave him a deposit to pay for the computer board. The next day he called me and said he had the computer board and would be by to put it in in 30 minutes. He came by and installed the board and now everything works perfectly. I love this man. He was polite and kept me in the loop the whole time. I will definitely use him for all my appliance repairs from now on. His prices are reasonable and he is prompt. Also he is able to take credit cards. I highly recommend Art.

+ -1 moreCalled Art for service call week prior-not only did he tell me exactly what was wrong with my dryer, he looked up model number, called me back and told me what the repair cost would be-also said he would have to put in some drive time because I was further than his usual service area. I was fine with all of that due to the A reviews he had received from the List. Art was not only ON TIME, but had repair done in less than 20 minutes, AND gave me my Angie's List discount. I wound up paying LESS than I would have from a local appliance repair shop. What's not to like? BGP

+ -1 moreMr. Freeman promptly obtained the part in question and installed it as he described and all is well. Highly recommend Mr. Freeman to anybody looking for a good, honest, and capable appliance repairman.
Description of Work: Our GE Monogram 42" F/F went out a few weeks ago. We had another company come out to investigate the issue and after being hours late and spending less than 3 minutes investigating the problem they quoted $600 for the repair (without even researching part costs). At the time, we decided that it was time to start looking for a new F/F. Enter Art Freeman: While working another issue that we were having with our washer, Mr. Freeman volunteered to look the our dead F/F to see if he could ascertain the problem. After investigation, Mr. Freeman stated that he could fix the problem for less than half the cost that was quoted by the other company and also would modify the location of the part (an inverter board) so that it would be further away from the hot compressor which he felt was part of the problem with the failure of the board (two years young).

+ -1 moreAfter running through the steps that Art outlined, it appears that the problem has gone away (at least for now) and after consulting with Art, we decided to monitor the situation and react if the problem arises again. I have to commend Art for working with me and not simply charging me for a general service fee which would have resulted in the same outcome (but more costly). I will not hesitate to give Art a call if problems do reoccur or if I have other appliance issues in the future.
Description of Work: Scheduled an appointment with A & S (Art Freeman) for a problem I was experiencing with a GE Profile Washer. Art promptly contacted me and walked me through some things to try to either narrow down the issue or to determine if the problem was still present.

+ -1 moreNo water was coming out of the in door dispenser of our refrigerator. I sent a message through Angies List to make an appt for a service call. Art called and explained troubleshooting we could do ourselves to see if the water line was frozen and if so to figure out where. We followed his directions and were able to get the refrigerator working properly ourselves. Art could have made a service call and charged us, but instead he helped us avoid that expense!! Very helpful and honest and most appreciated.

+ -1 moreArt assessed the situation and immediately determined the new relay switch was the wrong size for the refrigerator. He replaced it with correct one. It seemed to be working...but he stuck around just to make sure everything was OK. Unfortunately it started to get hot once again and Art did some more investigating. The compressor needed to be replaced! He had a compressor in his truck and we had him replace it. Art spent about 2 hours at our house troubleshooting and fixing our refrigerator. All on Thanksgiving day!! He even called later that evening to make sure everything was still good. The refrigerator has been fine ever since. We cant say enough about A&S Repair. We could not have asked for any better customer service. Art was professional courteous and very knowledgeable. Thanks for saving our Thanksgiving celebration!!.. Hopefully we wont need any appliances repaired in the near future but if we do we will definitely call A&S
Description of Work: On Nov 26 the night before Thanksgiving our refrigerator started to make a humming noise and the temperature began to rise in the freezer and refrigerated side. Needless to say it was filled with all the fixings for Thanksgiving dinner !! It was very frustrating to think we might loose hundreds of dollars worth of food we had just purchased. It was especially frustrating because we had the relay switch replaced 2 weeks prior by another repair service. We began by calling the company that replaced the switch. After many calls and messages left it was apparent they were not going to contact us. So we began the frantic search for someone to help. We placed at least 6-7 calls. No one called us back. In the meantime we purchased ice and tried to save as much as possible of our intended turkey dinner. We tried one more number which happened to be A&S Appliance Repair....and Art called us back!!! He asked us to do a few things to see if we could get it running again. Unfortunately nothing seemed to work. Art said he would see us the next day at 9am. Sure enough he arrived at 830am Thanksgiving day.

When I called him to find out about the cost to repair it, he asked for the model number and called me back within the hour with a quoted price. Turns out it was not broken, just a build up of mold and residue that was causing the backup of water. He cleaned most of it out and asked if I had an old toothbrush to clean out the remainder as he could take care of it for me. I appreciated his honesty! Working fine now!
