Their service was lousy. They charged about $1000 more than the $250 of the big deal. They brought in a third guy, who they charged me for. They also loaded the truck so that the big stuff couldn't get in. They put in the small boxes first. They therefore needed to make a second trip and that doubled the price. They also stopped for lunch which they charged me for. They didn't know how to load a moving truck. They didn't break anything.

Thank you for your feedback. We noticed that your review came a year and a half after the completion of your move and you may have forgotten how joyful the team was to work with. Your three crew members all won awards for outstanding customer service and quality. We are pleased that you mentioned you had a 4 bedroom home with appliances and not a single item was damaged. Although this move required a second trip with our largest truck, that does not mean the truck was stacked poorly, there was no way around making a 2nd trip since the largest truck only accommodates a 3 bedroom home in one trip. We estimated the move to take 9-12 hours and it only took 8 hours which also great. The method we use to load is to put a base in such as a dresser, then stack boxes on top, then followed by small misc. items on the very top. All of our trucks must be loaded in this order to avoid damages. Unfortunately our 2 hour deal that you purchased was not nearly enough time to complete a 4 bedroom home with appliances and any move 3 bedrooms or larger runs much more efficiently with a 3rd man. We look forward to working with you again in the future and we will work to help align your expectations with ours on how long this stuff can take to move carefully and efficiently.

They were amazing. We had to get an additional truck. They moved everything quickly, efficiently and well. I don't think I would ever use another company besides this one. We ended up being overweight at one of the Florida weigh stations, so Start Moving sent an additional truck (making 3 26' trucks total), one of their trucks and they didn't charge us for that 3rd truck. Nothing got broken and everything went great.
Description of Work: They moved our entire household from Indianapolis to Lake Mary, Florida. They also moved our belongings that we had stored in a building/large garage that had a lot of heavy machinery in it.

This is the second time I've used Start Moving for long distance moves. Once again, I am glad I chose them. They are trustworthy, hard working, and have the movers with THE BEST ATTITUDE in the business. They are so darn POSITIVE! I trusted them to pack and move ALL my stuff without me present! I was already at our new location. They amply fulfilled that trust! When they arrived at our new location and hand delivered to my 8-yr-old son the fragile cardboard bridge construction he'd made in an architecture workshop that the moving guys had lovingly put in the cab of the truck for safe-keeping, well, it doesn't get any better, or more sensitive, than that!!! For sure, it was not my most valuable possession, but they knew it was the most valuable piece to my son! And, when one of the board members of the very particular condo building we were moving out of wrote to thank ME for hiring Start Moving, you know they made a positive impression. All of which goes a very long way to REDUCE THE STRESS of any move! Thank you Adam and Justin (and Tim before them)! I highly recommend them; they take very good care of their customers.

We have several complaints with the lack of service provided by Start Moving in Lakeland Florida as outlined below. Angie's list "deal"-We contacted this mover through Angie's list because of the "deal" they have listed for 2 movers, 2 hours $199. We found out AFTER the movers had been there for 6 hours, that this is not a deal, it is in fact their normal rate for service. In addition, they require a two hour minimum and charge a "truck fee" of $50 , though we were using our own rented equipment and packing supplies. This was explained as a "fee to cover the expense of driving to your home" How are you planning on moving my things if you don't come to my home? This mystery fee was not disclosed in the "deal" purchased, upon scheduling or prior to services being performed. Additionally no insurance was offered to cover any potential damage to our belongings. Poor Time Management-This complaint is two fold. First, when contacted to schedule our move, we were told that it takes 6 hours to "load, drive across town, and unload", and that we would not need service for longer than that time. Since we were only requesting load assistance, the estimated time was four hours. It was made very clear that this was a three bedroom home and that all boxes had been packed but assistance would be required to wrap furniture. Again,we were given a 6 hour time frame. The movers who arrived mentioned on several occasions that they had just come off a 13 hour packing service the day prior for a three bedroom home. 13 hours to do the job we were told would take 6. Additionally, though polite, the movers were extremely chatty, and had to be asked on several occasions to pick up the pace. One of the gentleman could not lift anything, so he wrapped our furniture (poorly but more on that in a minute) the other packed the truck by himself. After 4 1/2 hours, Less the 1/4 of a 26 foot truck had been packed and nothing had been placed in the trailer. Seeing that they were not going to come close to finishing the job they were hired to do, we asked them to move all large pieces to the truck because we were not able to carry them by ourselves. promptly at 6 hours, they came requesting payment, at which time we were given their price chart and showed that we in fact did not receive a "deal" on their services and had to pay a "truck" fee. Being on a very strict timeline and knowing that the men sent to our home were not in charge we paid the bill with the intention to address the situation with the owner. After they left, we opened the truck door which they had closed to discover that all of our furniture had been haphazardly placed in the truck. Nothing was tightly packed. The job was so poor we had to unpack half of what they had done and enlist our friends at the 11th hour to assist us with the job we just paid $650 to have completed. Time not being on our side, we had to actually rent a second trailer to pull behind our car to fit the items that should have fit but could not due to the poor packing. This was an additional charge of $180. The movers we hired at our new location commented specifically, with no knowledge of the poor service we had received in Florida, that the front of the truck was very poorly packed and looked like it had been done by someone other than whomever packed the remaining trailers and back half of the truck. Damaged furniture-I am not a professional mover, but have moved several times in the last 15 years and even I know to protect the corners on furniture. Every single piece of our brand new bedroom set was damaged. This was the last thing the movers threw onto the truck after 4 1/2 hours of taking their time. All the corners are badly damaged, large deep scratches and areas where the finish has been completely scraped off. There are several hundred dollars worth of damages that should never have happened given that each piece was painstakingly wrapped (45 minutes to wrap a headboard, dresser, armoire and chest) by a mover who was too small to actually move anything. Additional damage has been found to our dining room table, leather couch and loveseat. Failure to return Phone Calls-Multiple attempts to reach the owner of this business have been unsuccessful. Two messages were left, on two different numbers provided, and no return phone call has been received. I would NEVER recommend these movers to anyone. The men who came to our home were very nice, albeit not very good at their job. They were courteous, polite and had we been at a picnic would have been great to chat with. Unfortunately, they failed to complete the task they were hired to do in the time frame they were hired to do it. UPDATE: Although they wouldn't return the phone calls, they did respond to an e-mail. Their explaination for the timeframe and quality was poor at best, but we awere able to settle on compensation and I am glad to be done with this company forever.

My movers Mark, Marvell, and Rifat showed up to the storage facility on time ready to move my 4 bedroom home out of storage into a 4 bedroom home with a walk up. After the introduction they went right to work. I'm not going to go into a lot of detail but I will tell you this. I have been in Logistics for 17 years which includes residential moving amongst other areas of my expertise in this field. The gentlemen were courteous, professional, and the job was done within the estimate which speaks volumes for their hard work. I will not hesitate to use them again or refer them to anyone that is relocating. It was a complete joy for my family to have these fine gentleman provide us with such exemplary service.

It went okay but the estimated process was a little much to be desired. It took them 2 days and they had to come back and then they tried to charge me way more than the original estimate. I did complain and fixed it so the kept in with the initial quote. The quality of service was good but I really judge them based on price. They were fine and they were good people. They wrap things pretty well and they definitely listen. The insurance package was just awesome and generally, they have good marks except for that estimating process and communication. They had to come back for the second time and that's where I wasn't there. It turned out really well.

My husband and I purchased a new home that needed renovations to make it livable. Once we reached the livable stage we decided to move about 2/3 of our furniture and 'stuff' over, and keep the remaining furniture and "stuff" at the old house for staging. When Alex and Tim arrived, they took inventory of all of the boxes and furniture moving over, and told us approximately how long the move was going to take. They also discussed insurance options. They wrapped every piece of furniture in packing blankets and were very careful moving everything. No walls were damaged in the process! When we arrived at the new home, I was concerned about my new flooring, but they were very careful with the hand-truck. My new house is two stories and many heavy boxes of books had to be taken to the second level. Alex and Tim were very professional, and only had kind words to say. They never grumbled or complained so many heavy items had to go to the second level. My husband and I were VERY impressed with Alex and Tim and will be requesting them when our old house sells and we need to move our remaining items to our new home. We did purchase a Deal for moving. While the move went over the time the Deal included, we were still pleased with the cost of what was done. We were made aware of these extra costs up front and knew about how much it would run based on the length of time we were told at the beginning. There were no surprises.

The $200 equipment fee for your move included a 26' truck, furniture pads to wrap and protect your items, tools and dollies to disassemble and move your items, and covers any travel time to and from your location since we are not on the clock for that time. The Deal you chose would have saved you 75% of that cost and all you would have left is the moving labor. We are sorry for any confusion and wish we had the chance to work with you. Movers were 4 hours late in ohio. It would be good if they would use runners or some type of floor protection. New wood floors were left very dirty and carpet had mud foot prints. At time of booking it was explained that the same 3 movers would be with the entire move. The movers in Ohio were different from the one man that drove the truck to North Carolina and the movers in North Carolina were from a local company. However, the movers in North Carolina did a great job.

We had signed up for an Angie's List deal for $299 which included 2 men for 3 hours plus the truck & fuel, starting upon their arrival at our home. We were told that every hour over 3 would be charged at $105/hour. The day before the move, Start Moving called to suggest that the size of our move would be better served by adding a 3rd man at a cost of $35/hour for him for the first 3 hours. For any additional hours, the price would increase to $140/hour for the 3 men. We agreed to that. The men arrived on time. The foreman first went over our options for the level of service. He estimated that the total move would take about 8.5 hours. He calculated what the cost of that would be and then guaranteed that the total due from us would not exceed that amount, even if it took them longer than the estimate. Once that was agreed upon, he inventoried any marks or scratches on the furniture & had me verify and sign off on that inventory. The men worked steadily throughout the day, taking only a 20 minute lunch break (which they deducted from their work time). They were very careful with our possessions and everything arrived at our new home without any damage. Furniture that had been taken apart for the move was put back together in our new home. On top of that, all three men were very courteous and professional. There was no damage to our condo or to our new home during the moving process. I would use Start Moving again without hesitation and would recommend their services to my friends. The total time came in at 8.25 hours.
Description of Work: Start Moving moved us from our 3 bedroom condo to a home 12 miles away. We chose the middle level of service that included wrapping all the furniture before leaving our condo & insuring everything at 60 cents a pound. The options we did not choose were the basic level which only included covering the furniture once it was in the truck and the level which would have insured everything at replacement cost.

My husband and I moved from Florida to Los Angeles in 2008 because of a sudden career move. Unfortunately, we had to leave most of our belongings stored in a 10x10 unit at Uncle Bob's Self Storage on 98 North. Because of the small, cramped apartments in LA, I wasn't able to move belongings out until another move recently took us to Texas. Now that we have a house, I was able to FINALLY think about moving our personal belongings to a permanent location. That means, we haven't seen our contents for 6 years. Trying to coordinate a move from Texas for contents located in Florida was such an extreme challenge and I was beginning to give up even being able to find anyone to tackle it. I FINALLY called Angie's List for a referral for the central Florida market and gave Start Moving a call. They were the first ones that even were willing to talk to me about moving my items from a storage unit into a PODS. Everyone else wasn't willing to do a PODS move and instead insisted that I use a full service moving company, which was too cost prohibitive. Start Moving was GREAT to work with and helped out so much! My movers were Mark and Rifat, ask for them specifically because they made the move so incredibly easy for me. They picked up my moving pads I reserved at a U-Haul dealer, let me put my PODS on their property (since the storage unit refused to let me have on there, even for just a few days), cut my lock off my unit, drive my belongings back to their warehouse after loading everything into their truck and loaded up my PODS, locked up my PODS and are taking the time to mail me the keys! The entire move was about 5 hours. Trust me, from an experienced mover that has literally moved all over the country, these guys are top notch. Use them and you WILL NOT be disappointed!

Ok, too expensive and had an attitude.
Description of Work: move from pa to co -- too expensive once you add in the additional cost for packing. Competition was priced lower, looking back if I had done my homework, would have gone with someone else. Nice guys, sloppy when working -- I picked up their garage throughout the day. We are not sure how Debra came up with this review, during the move she seemed very pleased. We were scheduled for a whole day of packing and we ended up doing 2-3 hours of packing for the price of 1 hour, threw in some free packing supplies and actually lost money being there since she had already decided to pay one of her friends to do the work for less money. The move was a complete success and not a single damaged item, movers arrived early each day and waited patiently for long periods of time for the client to get prepared by catching her many cats to put them away. We also made a second stop at a nearby storage at no extra cost to the client. The attitudes of the movers were very pleasant during a move that could have been very difficult given the level of clutter and disorganization, if there was anything that could be considered a problem with attitude it was the client who told the movers that packing requires a woman's touch and the mover responded confidently but politely that he is the best in the world at his craft. These are the true and correct details of the move. The owner was present during the move and made sure everything was done perfectly and every detail of the plan was per the clients convenience.
