I put in a request to change a lightbulb that was 15 ft. high and my ladder wouldn’t reach. The technician came out and quoted me $225 for 5 minutes worth of work. This was after him trying to sell me on all these other services I had no interest in, just focus on the task at hand! I told him no and he said he would remove the $90 “trip charge” (what a ripoff and I told the representative when I called to make the appointment I would not pay any sort of fee for an estimate or trip charge). I still told him that was high and could he come down closer to $75 as that is the most I would pay for such little work. He then complained that he drove over an hour to get to my house and he can’t do it for that low of an amount, and then ended our interaction with “but please keep us in mind for any of your future electrical needs or if you have any issues”. Hahahahahha so you refused to do the work that I called you for and think I would ever call you guys again??? He literally turned down free money to do a quick job and rather make nothing, makes zero sense since he was already there! They have permanently lost my business since I know I cannot depend on them. I have used Mister Sparky in the past even though their prices were always higher than others but I finally had to draw the line with them. Their greed over a few bucks lost them a customer, terrible business decisions and everyone should be warned this is how they operate. Stay away!!

They came out and it took seconds to give a price at the tap on a tablet by the technician. In addition to having to pay $59, we were quoted an outrageous price that was three times the amount quoted by another company so the work was not completed. Will not fall into this trap again!
Description of Work: We explained to the company when making the appointment that we wanted an attic fan motor installed and that we had the part. They refused to give an estimate over the phone even though we were told by another company that it would cost $150.

This is my first time as a homeowner, so I'm so relieved to have found a good electrician. The lights were flickering so I had no idea where to start. Dan and Danny came out, and they were so careful and thorough. They checked everything and explained everything. They seemed to really care that everything was good and safe. It was expensive, but I wasn't expecting anything electrical to be cheap. For how thorough they were, I think the money was well spent. It gave me peace of mind.

I could not say enough good things about this company. My mother is elderly and I had to be present to make sure she was not taken advantage of. The technicians that came out were Dan and Danny. The service was beyond anything I could ask for. They fixed the main issue which was the outlet that just needed to be reset. Dan was awesome at explaining why this happened and what to do in the future. He also reset a few timers for the outside of the house that required access to the attic, something that my mother could not do. They were very thorough and pointed out that our smoke detectors needed to be replaced after 10yrs. Something we did not know. They were so awesome and if we ever need an electrician again, I will call and ask for them.
Description of Work: Hired for mainly an outlet issue and they fixed a couple of other jobs around the house.

We hired Mr. Sparky for aluminum wiring remediation. This included replacing every outlet and wall switch in the house and installing Alumiconn connectors at every possible connection point. The first thing I noticed was their commitment to arriving on time. The appointment was scheduled, a 3 hour window was GUARANTEED, and a phone call was made to confirm that an electrician was on the way within 30 minutes of the first hour. The second thing I noticed was their attention to detail. Shoe covers were worn at all times. All areas were cleaned and confirmed operational after work was completed. Work done in the past by other electricians was inspected and fixed. Finally, the third thing that stood out to me was their commitment to quality. If it was going to be done it was going to be done right. Every outlet was replaced, bad wiring was fixed, the house was made SAFE!!!! Finally, I want to call out the fact that I spent TWO DAYS with Trent and 1 day each with Zach and Ryan. They took the time to make sure the work was done and it was done right. They were AMAZING. Trent spent 2 hours in my hot attic trying to fish a very difficult line so he didn't have to cut into my walls. I honestly couldn't be more pleased with the quality of service or the expertise but what really stands out is that I felt like family members were in my house taking care of these potentially dangerous electrical issues. These guys are the best. Mr. Sparky - take care of them - I've never been more pleased with the work or service I've received. Seriously.

Workers were great, work was done well, however, price was exceedingly high and I called back several times to get a price breakdown but they never returned by calls. almost $900 for 2.5 hours worth of basic work. Yes, I agreed, but I had to get the work done. Shop around as they definitely price gouge and won't respond. We all need to pool together and get the prices down for electrical work in general. It's a scam.

To check out one circuit there was a $300 charge, no matter whether it took him a few minutes or a day. We lucked out as it took him several hours, but I would have been upset if it only took a few minutes.. Mr. Sparkey's suggestion was to dig up the broken underground wire and replace it for $1500. WE had different electrical company come and they had a device that could find where the underground break was and dig it up and repair it for $400.

I give them an A for everything except pricing. Their pricing is kind of a crap shoot. They don't charge by the hour, but instead by the job. Price to diagnose a one circuit problem was $300. I got my money's worth because it to him 3 hours to find the problem. He said, before my service call, he had been to a home and it only took 20 minutes, but they still charged $300. They also suggested I change out my smoke alarms as, by the discolored plastic housing, he estimated they were the same age as the house, 20 years old, and they should be replaced every 8 to 10 years. I could agree with that statement, but when he stated he would charge $168 for each one I declined. I think if you have time to wait for a private electrician to show up in a few days you can probably save a lot of money. He also asked if I had been notified of the $60 house call charge? After I said no, he gave me some kind of discount on the bill to zero out the charge.

I called this company because some of my electrical went out. I was told that I needed a new panel, as the house was built in 1962 and it is a Zinsco. I was also told that my wiring my my attic needed to be entirely replaced, as it was a mixture of old, new, and open connections. I do not dispute any of this, I understand that Zinsco panel are obsolete, and I understand that the wiring is most likely faulty. The problem I have is that I was told it was $2000 for a new panel and $18,000 for a rewire. So for $20,000 (?!) they would fix my electrical issues. I had a new panel installed on a another house last year for $695, by a licensed electrician, and I have had two houses entirely rewired for about $4000 each. This company is ridiculous with their pricing. I wonder how many elderly they have scammed out of thousands of dollars.

The technician was very prompt, in fact early. He was also very polite and informative. When he first arrived he wanted to see the electrical panel just as a precaution. I had no concern with that, if fact it was nice to hear from him that our panel was in great shape overall. We sat down and discussed the price of installation of my already purchased exhaust fan. (In fact, I had three different choices since I was not sure on what would be needed). This is where the surprises started. When I purchased the service plan ($88.48 for $279.00 of services), there was no mention anywhere about a service charge, the other item that was very disturbing was the fact that among the services described in the deal was the installation of a bathroom exhaust fan. In my mind, I clearly had the understanding that the amount of service would cover that exhaust fan installation. When (Steve) the technician looked in his service book, every task possible had a price for service. That way the customer could be assured on exactly the cost of service. He clearly explained that in detail with me before he started the work. It was at that moment that he also told me about the ($59.00) service charge. Let me make this as clear as possible; no where on the description or during the appointment setup was there a discussion about a service charge. Even when the technician took the lowest possible job description for this particular service, and adding on the service charge, he explained to me I still owed a total of $71.00 on top of the amount I already prepaid. I despise expecting something was already paid for and then finding out there are "hidden charges". After some discussion, and talking, we both agreed that the description of service should have been worded better and should say something to the extent of "this service may or may not cover all of the service requested" There should also be a mention of the service charge and amount. I will give Steve some thanks, he was allowed to lower the service charge by $20.00 after calling in to his supervisor and explaining my concerns. The bottom line was that I still paid $88.48 plus $51.00 to get the service . So in essence, the fan was $50.00 and the service for installation was $139.48. That just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Luckily, I purchased three different fans and one ended up working without any additional vent work. It just happened that my house had vertical venting, while two of the three had fans that had side venting. I did not want any more additional charges that would include some vent work. He installed the fan and told me every step including emphasizing the importance of a good ground since the one he removed was not properly grounded. He was very careful and had covering on the floor to protect the work area. I am satisfied with the new exhaust fan. I just do not like surprises and unexpected charges.
Description of Work: Installed a new (supplied) bathroom exhaust fan. I had bought service for $88.48 that provided electrical services up to $279.00. Little did I know that there was a service charge of $59.00 (never specified anywhere) or that Mr. Sparky charged by the job, not by the hour. Every task and charge was specified with the technician. I had no idea that I had to pay an extra $51.00 on top of the already bought package of $88.48

Mr. Sparky is an all in one company. They come to your home and price the work. If you are ready to proceed, they will begin the work immediately. The tech and I reviewed the scope of work. He then calculated a flat rate price with three options. The big difference between the options was the surge protectors (~$1,000). I agreed to the quote and the tech went to work. My home is not the easiest place to do electrical work. It was built in 1971, has several concrete interior walls and has little room to maneuver in the attic. I think that he believed that the work could be performed in one long day, but it took ~7 hours with one tech on the first day and 12 hours with two tech's on the second day. It really was a two man job. Someone had to work above the ceiling and one person had to work below. The quality of the work was good with the exception of some wall damage where a switch box needed to be extended. The hole left after the work was done was larger than the switch plate. The tech's were not equipped to deal with wall damage, so I was left to do the repairs. I am handy, so I could do the repairs. If that was not the case, I would have had to hire someone else to repair the wall. The rest of the work was fine. I was surprised by the price, but Mr. Sparky did everything turn-key (i.e. they provided everything). I could have saved money if I purchased some of the components myself. If you use them and know what you want done, go to Home Depot and get the parts yourself to avoid the mark-up. That's where they went to get the parts that they didn't have anyway. The tech's wore shoe covers, cleaned up and took all the garbage with them. They were professional and I believe the work they did was of good quality.

I am selling my house and the buyer had an inspection team examine the home. They found the 4 problems stated above and I contacted Angie's List and found Sparky's, a highly regarded service provider. I showed the inspection report to the electrician highlighting the 4 problem needing resolution. He gave me an estimate of $1310.00 (after a 10% Angie's List Discount). No time estimates were included. As a highly regarded Angie's list supplier and anticipating that the work was extensive, I signed the agreement thinking that the price was rather high. I notified them of my concerns. After discussions with Mister Sparky's management, they informed me that an error in the estimate was, in fact, made and they quickly refunded half of my original payment. Thanks

I turned on the TV in the family room and immediately everything in that room went dark. I checked the circuit breaker, and it had not tripped. I called one company which could not give me a time certain for response; wanted me to wait for a technician to call me later in the day. That was not satisfactory. I called Mr. Sparky, which gave me a time their technician would be there, and told me he would give me a firm price before starting work. The technician, Thomas Jutte, arrived on time, said the problem appeared to be entirely on one circuit, and gave me a fixed single-circuit price of $267 for the work; that price covered whatever time and whatever parts might be necessary. I authorized him to proceed. Initial inspection of the outlets and boxes that I was aware were on the circuit did not reveal any visible problems, except there was no power to any them, meaning the problem was either in a junction (possibly in the attic) or was in the first outlet on the circuit, and we hadn't located it. The technician also noted that all of the outlets were of a type wherein wire is pushed into an opening on the back and held in place with a spring; he noted that such outlets may eject the wiring over time, as the springs weaken, and especially if anything tends to pull on the wiring. He went into the attic to try to find the Romex going from the circuit breaker to the first family room outlet. It turns out that the first outlet on the circuit was not in the family room, but in a hallway some distance away. Upon inspection, a prior owner had made some connections to add a switch, and in doing so, had made them improperly (he had simply placed the wires parallel, then twisted a wire nut over the bare copper without twisting it together; the wires should have been twisted together, both at the bare copper and into the insulation for about an inch below the bare copper, before the wire nut was used). The way the wires had been connected had allowed them to separate, causing arcing and overheating, and could easily have caused a fire. Indeed, some of the insulation on nearby wires was scorched from heat. Fortunately, the wires separated before things got worse, and simply caused loss of the circuit. Mr. Jutte replaced all of the outlets on the circuit with a type that holds the wiring with screws (on the side of the outlet), not springs on the back of it. He properly reconnected the wiring that had been done by the prior owner. He also inspected my main electrical panel panel and a number of other things (including function of all of the GFCIs), and recommended replacing the circuit breakers in the main panel within the next several years. Apparently they should be replaced every 25 years or so; my house is 22 years old. Mr. Jutte stayed with the job until it was complete, and he did not take shortcuts. As he promised, the cost of the six new outlets was included in the original price. The fixed charge for troubleshooting a single circuit worked to my advantage. More importantly, because of the identification of the safety problem that could have destroyed my home, the amount he charged was a bargain.
Description of Work: Provider identified the cause of an open circuit in my family room, and replaced all of the outlets on that circuit.
