I have been using Palm beach Lawn for 4 years and have always been satisfied with their services. Our lawn is one of the greenest on the block. When we owned a trampoline I was worried about the grass underneath but without me asking, the guys moved it. From then on, they moved it with every cut. I recommend them to my neighbors in Canyon Springs.

See above for update. Over the past years, I've alerted the owner several times that mowers direct their large machines so grass clippings s*** into our pond. This year, I again told him and he promised to correct the situation, but it occurred again. The result is that our pond is approximately 1/2 covered with decaying organic matter, which is very detrimental to the pond, aquatic life and wildlife who use the water. Neighbors complain to me (I'm on the board), I urge them to contact the property manager but they don't want "to cause trouble." Yet, they say the lake looks terrible and worry about the cost to rectify the problem. As far as I know, the company has not been asked to clean up the debris on the pond's surface. My concern is that the information was not conveyed to the workers or that the workers are performing poor landscaping practices that we -- homeowners -- do not see or know about, because they do not seem to understand the basics of mowing around a pond. I am writing this as a homeowner for five years in this development, though I am on the board. These comments are mine alone, because accountability for harmful landscape practices is important and may help others when selecting a company for their communities.
Description of Work: Revised my F grade of earlier. Yes, I was dismayed at the grass clippings in the pond. Our HOA had to spend money with our lake management company several times to get rid of the debris. However, I will add that Palm Beach Lawn did exactly what the board requested, which was to over prune, cut crepe myrtle trees in full bloom by 30 to 50 percent (canopies), and generally implement poor landscape practices. The owner and our PBL property manager understood the guidelines of Florida Friendly Landscaping, but was handcuffed by our board. (11-17-11) If hiring PBL, be specific. Monitor workers on site who don't always adhere to the owner's instructions. Palm Beach Lawn is a small company. It is under contract with our HOA to perform basic mowing, pruning, and fertilizing. It was selected primarily on a low bid, from what I was told by board members a couple of years ago. The annual cost is embedded in HOA dues. The full contract is significant for a 100-townhome community. I have met with the manager of Palm Beach Lawn, and discussed my issues with him, as well as the owner via email. In this report, I will focus on one problem which occurred over several weeks in July.

Our usual lawn care provider went in for emergency surgery and unfortunately has been unable to work. We finally had to hire someone else and called Palm Beach Lawn based on a referral from one of our neighbors. We were told the price would be $65 a month but after calling the company, I was quoted $75 a month for basic service. I agreed to pay for a partial month of service and am glad that I did. They cut the grass down to the dirt their first time out. The second time they came out they left a 3 foot by 3 foot square of grass uncut in the middle of our lawn in front of our house. They also cut a strip out of our neighbors grass about 6 feet long after obviously cutting past the property line. The worst part is that they just left it that way. There was no attempt to contact the neighbor to apologize or to trim the rest of the grass around it. I called to cancel the service and got their voicemail. I explained my issues, thanked them for the work they had done and figured that was the end of it. I get a phone call a little while later and could not get a word in. I was yelled at the entire time I was on the phone and eventually hung up on when I tried to explain my side. The weirdest part of the whole thing was being yelled at about how great their customer service is and how they solve problems like mine all the time, but never actually being offered a solution or anything that would resemble good customer service. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Response from Palm Beach Lawn Maintenance
You were quoted a rate of $55 for the cut, edge, grass trim and clean-up. When you inquired about additional services you provided the addtional costs. Your lawn was not scalped with the mower as our blades are set 1/4" above the PBC Cooperative Extension recommended height. However, as I tried to explain to you, your lawn needed to be fertilized (and still needs to be fertilized) to obtain the green thick appearance that many of your neighbors lawns (that we service) possess. We currently provide service to over 200 of your neighbors in Olympia. 11 of these customers are on Phipps Ln. In addition, we provide service for the common areas in Olympia. For almost 10 years we have been providing reliable service to the residents and HOAs of Olympia (your community). We have made customer satisfaction our number one priority and for that reason we maintain more properties in Olympia than any other service. You never called our office with any concerns. First, you called our office and left a message stating you were canceling service and that you would never use our service again. When I called you back, I offered to come out and personally resolve any issues you had with the service. However, you re-stated the fact that you were canceling and would never use us our service again. Then you proceeded to tell me how we needed to change our service and you continued to list your complaints. After several minutes of listening I asked if we could end our conversation as I had other calls to take. It was at this point that you became very angry with me. We work hard everyday to provide the best service with the best results for our customers. If we make a mistake, we don't just fix the mistake, we provide our customers with an additional courtesy to make up for any inconvenience. However, when you made it crystal clear that you were canceling, there was not much I could do to resolve your concerns.
