I have used a lot of contractors over the years and Joey has to be one of the best. He is a total professional, takes a lot of pride in his work and makes sure you are happy with his work. He spent several days tearing out ugly tile and replacing it with natural stone. At the end of every day, he left his work area clean and tidy. I love the end result. Do not waste your time looking for another contractor -- JC Masonry is the best for this type of work.
Description of Work: Joey tore down the ugly 80s-something tile that surrounded my fireplace and hearth and put natural stone in its place.

When we purchased our home, the steps on our concrete front porch had cracks in them, and on some giant pieces had been chipped away. The landing area itself had some cracks as well, and the joints by the wall had allowed water to seep into the basement into the past. We hired JC Masonry Improvements to perform the repair work (fix/reform the stairs, seal the cracks, and coat the stairs and porch). The process was a pleasure, from the quote to the invoicing. Joe was always on time, did all the work himself, cleaned up his work/equipment each day, took the time to get it right and keep us informed throughout the process. (Joe even let us borrow a mailbox he had, since the mailman could not walk up the porch to drop the mail in the mail slot!) The quality of work was exceptional, and after countless years of freezing and thawing, cracking, chipping, and breaking, our stairs are as good as new. We?d hire JC Masonry Improvements again without hesitation.
Description of Work: Repaired broken concrete steps, sealed cracks and seams, and coated stairs and porch.

It is a single person operation and he is very professional. His wife handles the books. They are very prompt in getting back to me. He is very pleasant. He was here when I wasn?t here and so he chatted with my neighbors. I didn?t pay him by the hour; I paid him for the job. My neighbors liked him and a couple of people asked me who did the job.

Weather kept putting the schedule back - it was an exterior job so it couldn't be done in the rain or snow. However, they kept us apprised at all times of when they thought they would be able to start and complete the job. They did exactly what they said they would and kept us very well informed of their progress. As soon as I have $$ I will invite them back to do some other work we need to have done.
Description of Work: We have a very old house. The stairwell leading to the exterior basement door had deteriorated badly - the cement coating had fallen off and the bricks were beginning to decay. J.C. Masonry Improvements meticulously repaired the bricks and put a new moisture barrier on before re-coating with cement. It was a delight to watch a real craftsman at work.

Joey always shows up on time and gets right to work. Cathi is always friendly and efficient with scheduling and answering questions.
Description of Work: Joey replaced 3 chimney caps on top of my fireplace and repaired/replaced the entire grouted cap which had cracked and deteriorated in 50+ years. Water was leaking down both fireplaces in the house when it rained. The three tin chimney caps that were in place on the three flues looked like cheap party hats - they were sad. Joey rebuilt the entire chimney cap, added 2 courses of brick and capped it all with 2" thick sandstone. Then he added 3 clay flue pips with black metal tops - all matching.

I got their (Joey and Cathi) information off of Angie's List where they enjoy excellent reviews. I called and Cathi set me up a time for Joey to come look at our project. We showed him what we needed, he took some measurements and said that Cathi would email me a proposal in a few days. We received the proposal as promised and the price was very reasonable. Cathi gave us a date and as that date approached, she called and said that Joey would be there the following Monday after the Friday that they had given us. She asked to make sure that this was okay. He came on Monday, and finished on Tuesday with an additional job of resetting the flag stone on our fireplace hearth. Joey is a great guy and a lot of fun to talk to. He's intelligent, articulate, and thouroughly enjoyable. I highly recommend this little company (just Joey and Cathi) for any kind of masonry work, including laying flagstone.

We were remodeling our living room, removing old 60's style wood paneling, and just trying to make it more modern. When the paneling came down, we found that the fireplace was made of blonde brick, and the sides had been just painted black. We researched ways to just use the brick, and give it a finish that would tie into the walls. Nothing we found really would look like a true update to the style, so a new fireplace was in order. We called Joey, and asked him to come give us some advice. After discussing it, we settled on making a moss rock facing, and he recommeneded a sandstone slab as a hearth to give it a more robust and finished look. He has a supplier that was able to get some appropriate materials, and within a couple of weeks we had all the materials ready to go. The timing was fine for us, since we had other projects going simultaneously. When we arranged to have him come do the job, he was very willing to work with our schedule, and when he did come it took him about 2 days, and it looks great. He had to build up the wall of rock and attach it to the existing wall, all without any guide and without messing up the newly finished walls. When he finished he cleaned up after himself thoroughly. He is truely an artist, and professional businessman.
Description of Work: We had a very plain built-in fireplace with a small black slate hearth. Joey helped us pick out some very nice moss rock that is very similar to another location in our house, and he recommended a sandstone hearth slab that would complement it nicely. Creating the fireplace facing was like building a puzzle with no guide, except some maximum dimensions and pieces that sometimes needed shaping to fit. By the end of the job, he also recommended using some of the leftover slab to make a mantle, which worked out quite well, and really finishes the look.

Easy to deal with, prompt, courteous and kept me apprised of what was going on. My wife found one hard-to-see crack that was overlooked, and they came back promptly and fixed it.
Description of Work: I backed a truck into the brick pillar separating the two garage stalls, damaging a half-dozen bricks and creating extensive mortar cracks. The contractor replaced the damaged bricks and it's no longer possible to tell where the damage was (other than the fact that the new mortar isn't weathered yet.)

Called and they came out the next day with an estimate. Company called the following day, and I was asked to sign a contract before scheduling and work starting. They drove out with the contract, which I signed and was scheduled for five days following. Joey arrived on time, worked through the day, and came back the following day and finished up.
Description of Work: Tuck pointed all of south side of my house including some really bad places where mortar was almost non-existent and mice had gotten into the house! Replaced damaged bricks, and tuck pointed front porch entry walls up stairs. Reset bricks in several paces on garage, and tuck pointed sills and several bad places in the walls.

I called and very promptly got a bid in early July. The bid included extensive work on two chimneys on the house, totaling $3720. I could not afford that and asked if they could do only two sides of the house that really needed work to keep the house watertight and sound. They reduced the bid to include only the areas I wanted done right now. (I intend to have this company do the rest of the work next year). The revised bid was the exact price I paid. I got one other bid from another company, $500, which was so low it indicated to me that the work would not be done properly. So I chose JC Masonry. At the start, they told me the work would be done probably September, and that's when it was done. Kathy kept me informed of the date. Joe was a true professional, did the work over 3 to 4 days, and went out of his way to fix things, such as replacing a missing brick I had not noticed. Totally cleaned up after each visit and upon completion. This is a family team, Joe and Kathy, and I thought they were terrific, absolutely professional, friendly, and did quality work. I pointed out to Joe, I had some tuck pointing done 3 or 4 years ago, that was now chipping out, and Joe said he would re-do his work for free if it didn't last at least 10 years. (This wasn't a written warranty, but I thought it indicated pride of workmanship and confidence in the quality of his work).

JC Masonry provided outstanding service, and I'm "very" picky when it comes to customer service. They showed up when they said they would for the estimate and to perform the work. They even drove to my work to pick up my garage door opener. The bill matched the estimate, and the level of professional competence was obvious when talking with and meeting them. I contacted a few Angie's listed masons, and JC Masonry is the standout in my opinion.
Description of Work: Replaced a 4'x6' section of an exterior garage wall. Essentially "cut it out" and replaced it because the old wall was caving in. Also installed a waterproofing plastic liner between the buried part of the exterior wall and the ground to prevent future damage.

This was an outstanding company!! They came and gave a timely estimate and then performed the work when they said they would. They did an OUTSTANDING job cleaning up. I cannot say enough about the AWESOME job they did in matching the brick to the old brick. Unless we told you where the work had been done you would never know!! Overall a FANTASTIC experience.
Description of Work: We had replaced a sliding glass door with french doors. In doing so that left a new area on the outside of our home bare where the previous side light had been. Because of the new door the brick above the door started to fall. JC Masonry came in and removed the falling brick and toothed in around the top and placed new brick in the bare area. So now from the outside of the house you can no longer tell that the door is there is not the original door.
