Buyer Beware In August 2019 we hired Kayne Marzetti of Pool Design Consultant to install a fiberglass pool. We were initially put in contact with Kayne by Latham Pools as he was an authorized dealer for this company. Kayne is based out of Lake Mary, Florida but stated he is from Columbus and has been doing pools in both Ohio and Florida for decades. He stated in the summers he comes up here and installs pools then in the winter he goes back to Florida and installs them down there. Kayne may also go by the name of Kelly and sometimes uses the last name of Larkins as well. He also owns businesses under the name of Craftsman Pools, Central Ohio Pools, and Ohio Pools Builders. Kayne is not affiliated with Marzetti Pools, a local pool installation company. However, at the time we were under the impression he was. Construction was to begin in late October and be completed the beginning of November 2019. Shortly before digging was to begin we received word from Kayne there was a delay in the process, he stated he was unable to obtain permits for the pool. He blamed the city of Grove City for refusing to grant him permits. He then stated due to the delays we would not be able to start our project in 2019 because of colder weather and the project would be pushed to spring 2020. He stated during this time he would work with the city to obtain permits. March 2020 comes and he states he’s still unable to work with the city and requests we obtain permits ourselves to help with the process. This is shortly before COVID hits. In effort not to delay the project any longer we obtain permits immediately. We ask about delays due to COVID, he assured us no more delays and he wasn’t worried about COVID, he and his workers would be there. Many delays occurred, finally late April Kayne reached out again stating there was an issue with Latham Pools and our fiberglass pool was not ready and would not be ready for a while, even though he stated he ordered the pool back in 2019 when he was supposed to install it in October. He informed us that he was doing a very large project in Marion, Ohio where the pool was constructed with concrete and due to the size of that project he was able to get a deal on concrete pricing. He stated he would have a crew in Marion in May and since they were up here he could build us a concrete pool and pass along the savings to us. He stated he would do the concrete pool for our contracted price of the fiberglass pool. We felt pressure to follow this plan since he stated the issue with the fiberglass was due to increase in pool installations across the nation from COVID. We agreed to this new project and a new contract was signed in April. Digging was to start late May. The crew arrived May 27th, seven months after the original dig date. June 5th the concrete shell was installed. That was the last day of ANY progress on the pool until August 11th. Kayne blamed the delays on everything but himself. We had to obtain a lawyer to have him restart the work on August 11th. The last day of work Kayne had completed was September 9th. He improperly installed decking around the pool and needed to tear the entire project up and hire a new company to complete that task. Kayne had stated to us he was unable to finish the pool because our project was costing him more money than he expected, that he lost the giant Marion pool project, that we gave a poor review to a potential client (which we didn’t, we just gave an honest one discussing the many delays.) Earlier this month we were put in contact with a family in another local city that Kayne has potentially taken advantage of as well. They notified me that they plan to sue him as well. We plan to file a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General’s office, Florida’s Attorney General’s office, the BBB, and working with local building departments to not allow him to build in their cities. The city of Grove City has already stated that they will not allow him to do any work, and have already informed a few residents inquiring about him to avoid him. We have had to hire another company to finish the pool and it is costing us more money to do so. In doing so, we have found many errors that Kayne made in the installation process that we are having to fix, and some issues are not able to be fix but we will have to deal with poor performance. Do NOT hire Kayne Marzetti to install your swimming pool.
