It went very well and they were good.

They pumped it and then Jackie called from the office to tell me that she had bad news - we needed a drainfield redone which would cost $3-5000. She was very anxious to get us to do it. She said the septic was full of water and they pumped out 900 gallons of water. Plus since the system was from 1954 we really needed it. I told he I'd call her. Crotty had installed the septic and drainfield in 1997 or 1998 but had no record of that. They also installed an effluent filter. The installer said to make sure they open the output side and clean it every time they pump. My wife said that pumpers told her it wasn't necessary for years. I then called Dennis Lapin (Lapin Services). He sent a top man - Chris Albury - out to check. Chris came out and opened the output side and it was full of lots more than water. He cleaned the filter which was caked and had a core sample inside. The water began to flow. He said it needed to be pumped. I said I would call Crotty. He didn't charge. I called and asked Jackie (Crotty) for a manager. She said there wasn't one. I asked to speak with the owner. She asked why and I said service issue. She was rude but said she would give him/her the message. He/she never called. Walt the service guy called and started in about the 1954 drainfield. I told him to come back. He said he'd clean the filter. I said you need to pump both sides and do it right. He came and opened the tank and noticed the filter had been clened. He did more, and pumped rinsed and did things right. He admitted that they don't measure the water pumped, they eyeball it. He also mentioned that those two were the staff plus Jackie and the owner that doesn't deal with customers. And that business is really slow. He never probed the drainfield but said that Jackie was pushing for a drainfield. Lapin probed the drainfield and said it was dry and fine. Crotty was my septic company and wasn't servicing as they said they should and was hungry for money and improperly recommended an expensive solution to a problem that they helped create.
