Above The Rest Doors

Above the Rest Garage Doors came to my home to "Tune Up" my garage door. My garage door was broken (needed a small part) so he needed to fix the system and then perform the tune-up. He had the part I needed on his truck and he fixed my garage door for no extra charge. Now that was nice to not charge but I was happy to finally have a working garage door. I had called 3 garage door repair companies over the past 9 months prior to "Above the Rest Garage Doors". All three came to my home but none fixed my garage door. I will always use "Above the Rest Garage Doors" for any garage door work I have in the future.

They were very nice and quoted an amount we will have to save for. They were excellent with what they did and impressed my mom even with their honesty and customer service.

.I purchased the garage door tuneup special for $49.95 and within a couple of days Doug was able to check out my garage door. He arrived during the two hour appointment window that was provided, was friendly and clearly knowledgeable about garage doors. I was sure that some parts would need to be replaced, but that was not the case at all, just the tuneup was needed.

Doug readjusted his schedule to meet us an hour earlier than we had originally scheduled. He was friendly, polite and knew his product well. We feel we got a better deal, without the hassle of installing the openers ourselves, from Above the Rest than we could have from the local hardware store.

I think it was making a large noise when it was closing and they closed that. I think the responsiveness was quick. I would use them again in the future if I needed to.

The job went very well. They called and scheduled an appointment that fit my schedule and called 15 minutes prior to arriving. Once on site, Doug went right to work and finished quickly. He explained what he did and demonstrated that both doors were working properly. I am a very satisfied customer.

I purchased the Angie's List Big Deal for a $45 garage door tuneup from Above the Rest Garage Doors. I suspected that my garage door needed more than a tuneup, but I expected to get a discount on whatever work was performed. I was offered the discount... on a completely new garage door. I was told by the service provider that my door was completely beyond repair and would need to be replaced. Additionally, since the door is older, I was told that I would need to replace my second garage door if I wanted them to match. All in all, about $5,000, more if I wanted the new door to be as nice as the old one (with windows in the top). Also, he gratuitously complained about the Angie's List offer and how he didn't make any money on repairs through them, but at least it got him referrals for bigger jobs. I did not go through with the service because $5000 was outside of my budget, and besides, I didn't use the garage that much and could open it manually when needed. Plus, the second door worked. Fast forward to this month - I am having a number of repairs done to my house in preparation to list it for sale, mostly done by a carpenter/handyman. I mentioned that the garage door was broken, but that it needed to be replaced. He contradicted me and asked if he could call his preferred company - Quick Door Service - and see if they couldn't repair it. True to their name, Quick Door was out in a few days and fixed the problem for $160 - replaced a worn out bar, hinges, rollers, etc, tuned up the opener, and also tuned up the second door, no problem. I feel extremely lucky to have dodged this SCAM, especially as I am in the process of relocating to the west coast!

Doug Berlin is the owner. He is honest. He is a fantastic man. He has been in the business from several years. He corrected all that was done by the contractors. He saved my garage door. The other contractor had put only two or three nails, whereas there should have been five or six nails. He held it up. He showed me how it was coming apart. They were excellent. I would use them in the future.

My wife was stranded several times when the door would bind up and she could not open it! That made my life more difficult! The tension spring broke late Saturday night, with both my cars still inside the garage. I called a few places on Sunday but only Doug provided a timely response and also sent his technician to fix the problem the very same day. The job was done fantastically, and professionally by 6 pm the same day! Very pleased.

I signed up for the Angie's List special with Above the Rest for a garage door tune-up for $89 (regularly around $200). I contacted Doug and made an appointment for him to come out. He arrived on time and performed the tune-up and showed me what I needed to do to maintain my garage doors. He did not try to upsell me any additional services, and completed his work expeditiously. I plan to have his company come out to inspect my garage doors on an annual basis. I would highly recommend this company -- they are very professional.

Doug answered my call immediately; made appt for next day. Called to let me know he was on his way, gave me an exact estimate. Doug is pleasant with a wonderful sense of humor; very knowledgable, answered my myriad of questions, took his time, made helpful suggestions. He ordered panel & Karen called over weekend to schedule appt. for install/service on Monday. Again called to say he was on his way. He's honest, did his best to save us money; said replacing insulation would end up looking same as existing so we saved money avoiding that. The service made operation quieter. Also serviced single garage door without additional charge. I mentioned a wide sliding glass door that was difficult to open. He happily took entire door off track, lubed it said new wheels wouldn't work any better & is researching double-rollers to see if that makes it easier. Also asked about an auto opener for slider, which he is researching & is waiting for replies from his contacts. Doug is the best! He went well above and beyond the services quoted, and beyond my expectations. Told him I didn't renew my Angie's membership & he pointed out that the "Big Deal" discount we received for this service more than made up the cost of an annual membership, so I renewed!

Do hire this company if you need your garage door fixed...

Everything went smoothly from the time we called. Will not hesitate to call them again. They were prompt and efficient.

This Company had installed my garage door opener. Although it was working fine in every respect it was beeping almost every 30 seconds. Though it was not very loud it was annoying. The owner of this company asked me if it was on warranty and I assured him so. He made me read the warranty to him. I had the five year warranty and this was installed in 2009. He explained the reason why he wanted me to read it, because the warranty varies on these garage door openers. He asked me the date on which it was installed and I provided it. He said that he would contact the company to take care of it. Two days later he calls me up and tells me that he now has the replacement battery and he came in and installed it. He did not charge me anything. I was under the impression and I was used to thinking that in terms of like washer, dryer, refrigerator, dish washer etc, where these appliances have a problem when under warranty whoever comes and takes care of it is paid by the manufacturer for both labor and parts. So what I found out from the owner of this company who came himself is that the garage door industry does not pay labor. This surprised me. In fact if had I called the garage door manufacturer directly they would have merely mailed me a battery with instructions for installing it. I thought I was doing the guy a favour by calling him and actually I am costing him money by calling him. Yet he came, he installed it and did not get paid for it nor did he charge me anything for it. He said, because I was his customer, and he is one who installed it, he feels responsible for it. I would like to nominate him for the Page of Happiness. This guy went above and beyond anything that I had any reason for me to expect. I was not aware that under warranty that the garage door opener companies don’t pay for any labor involved with fixing the problem under warranty. My hats off to this guy. He is definitely above the rest. He told me that most companies who have got a call like this, would have called the toll free number of the manufacturer to deal with them directly. He could have done that. I would not have had a problem doing that. He did not even tell me nor did it cross his mind to ship me off to the manufacturer. He looked at me as one of his customers who bought it from him and that he would make sure that I am happy.

I contacted Doug because he was highly recommended on Angie's List. He was quick to respond, quoted me over the phone, and he was available the next day. He fixed everything and when I had a question later that night, I called him and he assisted me over the phone. His prices are fair, and he is good at what he does and very professional and attentive. I will definitely use him again.

UPDATE! Doug did get in touch with me and sent a cehck for the coupon amount without my asking for it. Great guy, great company. Would highly recommend.

We purchased a special garage tune-up that included replacement rollers. Doug arrived on time. Replaced the rollers, adjusted the spring, lubricated the garage door and checked the opener. He explained and showed me areas that would need repair or replacement in the future. He never once tried to up sell or make anything sound urgent. He was knowledgable and friendly. Doug being honest and friendly put me at ease about using him in the future. No guess work here. When it comes times to replace the opener or the door I will call him.

The technician arrived on time, and went to work checking out all the moving parts on the garage door. We were especially concerned about the noise the door made. The technician checked and found that several of the wheels weren't even turning. which contributed to the noise and also caused the door opener to work harader. He replaced the metal wheels with nylon wheels and lubricated the door and now the door hardly makes a sound.We would highly recommend Above the Rest Garage Doors.

Appointment kept. Noted how well I had maintained door with lube in all required places. Was impressed that 20 year old door was in such condition. Thought nylon rollers would quiet door. But it's screw drive on opener that's the culprit.

Did a great job at a great price. But what impressed me the most was how fast they were - same afternoon to evaluate the problem, next morning to complete the work.

Excellent Gave hints on future work but never tried to see extra services Doug arrived on time. Look the door over and went to wrk, changed the rollers, adjusted the spring tension and then lubricatred the hinges. Excellent service fast and neat

Doug was very courteous and professional. He took the time to teach the proper regular maintenance in a very patient and thorough manner and did not try to sell me anything. He explained why the door was a little noisy and demonstrated how simply lubricating all moving parts on a regular basis reduces noise and prolongs the garage door life. With a very friendly, approachable, and "non-pushy" demeanor, he explained everything that he checked during his visit and the results of what he found. It was a very positive experience, and I will definitely contact this vendor in the future with any problems that I may have.

He did an excellent job, and everything he did was great. He was really good and went above and beyond the other providers. He was very knowledgeable, nice, professional and funny. I liked his demeanor and the way he was. He was not trying to make a quick buck. He suggested that I might need a new garage door but that was not needed to be done right away, although he did advise that down the road it might be a concern. I appreciated his honesty. I would rate him highly and would use him again in the future if necessary.
