The interaction was okay, but I didn't think they were as professional as the provider I ended up going with.
Description of Work: I had a quote from them for a tile job but I didn't take the bid.

Shane and his crew, his buddy Philip, seemed young and we were somewhat unsure at first, but Shane talked about the proper mortar for stone, using the proper additives for grout, and the need to make sure the tiles were level and their placement well thought out. They finished in a timely manner and showed up every day they said they would (an amazing feat in N Florida). Shane took the time to build up spots using extra mortar to level, letting it dry then coming back and tiling over to ensure an even tile surface. For spots that were higher, he or Philip would chip away or jackhammer the hard terrazzo down to where the tiles would be even when set. Shane and Philip also took the three pallets of tile and sorted them on the first day into like piles, so they could ensure the tile patterns were dispersed throughout the home, so that we didn't have patches of reddish tile clustered in one area, darker tiles in another, etc, but instead a sampling of all tiles throughout. It really showed his attention to detail and knowledge of specific materials and methods of tiling. We knew Shane had done a great job and really took the time to do the job RIGHT. We especially realized his true skill level when we had a tradesman come in and finish off our enclosed carport (the one room that wasn't anywhere near ready for Shane to tile last year). This other tradesman said he had done stone before, and would finish the floor and tile the enclosed carport. He laid the same tile but used a cheap thinset and his tile work is ATROCIOUS. The tiles are visibly uneven, you could stub your toes and trip on half of them. You can see the room falling out of level on one side. Some tiles were installed UPSIDE DOWN. Seriously. A half-hearted, half-arsed job. It's been 2 days and one tile has already cracked. It's a marked difference to Shane's work, where the grout lines are well thought out, consistent, tiles are even, and each tile is perfectly level. Shane would spend 5 minutes or more on a single tile sometimes, making sure it was level. I truly wish we had Shane tile the carport instead of this other hack. If you have a tile job I highly recommend Shane. Our floor is so beautiful, it's the first thing everyone notices. And after a year I still find myself admiring it.
Description of Work: Shane Norris of Shane's Tile tiled our house with thick 18"x18" Dalmation Noce travertine that we purchased from Floor & Decor. Shane used 1/8' grout joints. He tiled our entire home, including inside closets etc. I can't remember the final cost, but he charged about $5/sq ft. as it was stone. He also cut the bottoms of doors and helped my husband reset a few kitchen cabinets as the fridge ended up being higher than it was previously due to the tile, and was no longer fitting under the uppers. He also tiled a 'rug' in our dining room, which was a rectangle he made by cutting a border out of the tile and setting tiles inside the border on a diagonal. He suggested this (after explaining what it was) on the first day, and did not charge any extra--just for pure pride of workmanship, and Shane has reason to be proud. He also guaranteed his work for 2 years.
