I completely renovated my kitchen. I was referred to Rock Solid Surfaces by my general contractor. The initial consult appointment was set right away and all of the preliminary ordering/measuring steps were completed in one visit. The installation was quick and efficient. The guys made sure that they left no debris on site, which is a rare find. I'd definitely use them again. My quartz counter tops are wonderful. The quality of work is excellent.

Met Jay Harvey at Granite Express while looking at granite slabs. Jay provided an estimate on sight and later came to the house for an accurate measure and second estimate. We signed a contract and a few days later the templates were made and about a week later the countertops were delivered and installed. I provide my own corbels for the bar. I purchased them at Home Depot. In order to keep costs down and only use one slab, I waived the back splashes and installed tile back splashes myself. I would have had to pay for an additional slab if I wanted granite back splashes.
Description of Work: 2 Countertops and bar for outdoor kitchen made of 3mm granite. Bevel edges. Cutouts for sink, gas grill, and gas burner. Used one large slab from Granite Express on Phillips Hwy. Color Madura Gold.

Rock Solid Surfaces (RSS) was contracted to install granite countertops on cabinets in our family room by the company we hired to reface those same cabinets. The first step was for me to go to RSS to choose from the available stock of Granite remnants. I was shown those available and made a selection. Their representative was very nice about providing samples from three remnants for me to bring home and consider. The second step was for their guys to come to the house and use the cabinets to make wooden templates. Since the installation required a short three sided backsplash we, at that time discussed the need for the corners of the back-splash to be mitred. This, as it was explained to me, would be necessary because the was a bevel on the edge of the backsplash. At that time I also showed them seams in the kitchen that needed re-gluing and they said that would relay that to the owner and that he would call in the coming week. I was also told what day the counters would be installed and that the installation crew would arrive between noon and 1:00 pm. A call from the owner never came. On the day of the installation I waited until 1:00pm to call to see when they would be there to install the countertops and was asked to hang on while they asked that question to someone in the shop. I was told they would be there by 3:00pm. I asked if that would be enough time and was assured that it would be fine. I also asked about the kitchen seams and why I had received a call about them. I was told by the owner that he had not been informed of the need to call but that he was sure that they could take care of it when they were there. I received a call from RSS at 3:30pm that they were at that point leaving their shop. One person arrived at 4:15pm. His first problem was that no one told him that he would have to remove the old tops and had not planned for that much time. It was at that time he mentioned his intent to play golf after the installation. It happened that one of the tops to be removed needed to be unscrewed from the bottom at which point he asked if I had the tool required. Fortunately, I did. After removals, he began to set up his saw for the final cuts of the backsplash but had not brought an extension cord. Fortunately, I had the very specific type he requested. He brought in the new tops and placed them on the cabinets. Then he brought in the just cut pieces of the first of three 3-sided backsplashes . Unfortunately, I did not notice that they were made with straight cuts until after gluing. I explained the need for mitred cuts given the discussion the week before and the fact of beveling on the edges. He said nobody told him that would be required and that he would not have enough material with him therefore to finish the job. At that point he started to apply some kind of finishing or sealing solution to the tops he had installed. It was then that I noticed 5-6 inch marks on all three of the counter sections in the back right corners. One top had a similar mark on the left side as well. After his statement that it was a natural material with natural flaws he had to agree that the marks had to be from their processing. He left the tops in place and left. Phone calls to the owner prompted many apologies and an appointment for him to come out to the house to evaluate the tops and determine a plan to fix the situation. Days later when he arrived for the appointment he agreed that the marks were not natural occurrences and removed them to attempt to refinish the surface at the RSS shop. Five days later the owner called to say that the tops were fixed and that they were ready to install. Four days later the guys who came out first to measure for templates arrived late to instal the tops and cut the backsplash. They brought in the tops and started applying the sealer when I noticed that the marks were no different than when I saw them last. One of the guys said that he didn't know about those marks and had been told only to remove and ldquo;metal scratchesand rdquo;. At that point I told the guys that the tops were not acceptable. They removed them and left. I then called the cabinet refacing guy, explained that I had lost confidence with RSS and said that he would need to recommend another granite countertop company to work with.
Description of Work: Rock Solid Surfaces was contracted to 1) remove the old cabinet tops 2) measure for new granite counter tops and 3) install the new counter tops.
