Roy Vance Prestwood Sr. of Party Spa's was recommended by Pinch-A-Penny's in Orange Park FL and the Mandarin FL locations to fix our Dreamaker Spa for a hard to open drain valve in spa. After inspecting the spa, Mr. Prestwood did not have parts to fix the drain and left to buy parts at Lowes. He was gone over an hour and a half and said Lowes did not have the part. He charged $25.00 for $5.97 3/4-in Compression Brass Boiler Drain Valve & flexible PVC tubing ($2.95). (Later I found our local Lowes did have this Drain Valve in stock) During the repair work Mr. Roy Vance Prestwood engaged me to talk with him about various matters. All the while, his 'assistant' Danny changed the valve for our spa, picking at the spa insulation with various tools and cutting, drilling into the bottom of the spa, and heating tubing and clamping tubing under the supervision of Mr. Prestwood. While this was going on, Mr. Prestwood repeatedly interjected: " I hate working on Dreamaker Spas. Dreamaker Spas are hard to work with! Time was spent on this small project was an exhausing 3 hours since I was engaged in continuous conversation with Mr. Prestwood, which most was unrelated to our spa! After the work was completed and Mr. Preston and Danny left, we later discovered a small leak under the spa after filling. Our spa did not leak prior service and was dry prior the repair process of lifting of the spa, the picking and removing of insulation, the cutting of water lines, drilling holes and placing clamps for replacing the drain. We called Mr. Prestwood the next AM to inform of leaking problem and was assured by Mr. Roy Prestwood he would visit to fix the leaking problem. He told us not to drain our spa and he would come by mid-afternoon. We called Mr. Preston again around 3PM and he asked us for our phone number and would get back with us. Hours later, I called Pinch-A -Penny owner (Tyler) on Blanding Blvd (Who recommended Mr. Prestwood's business, Party Spa's) to complain concerning lack of follow up. Almost immediately we got a call from Party Spa's owner (Mr. Prestwood) that he would visit to fix the problem. Pinch-A Penny owner (Tyler) called soon after to confirm he called Mr. Prestwood and I assured him Mr. Prestwood called us for addressing the leaking. (I do appreciate his follow up.) Mr. Prestwood and Danny finally arrived around 4:40 PM. After 2 hours or so, assessing the leak, he said the leak was not his fault though the leak appears just inches where his helper, Danny was working. Mr. Prestwood told my husband he would fix the leak free (audaciously, without further charges!) if I provided him free services as a legal nurse to assist him with a problem he was having! I was not present when this conversation transpired, and in fact avoided Mr. Prestwood on his second visit, so he would not be so distracted from the purpose of his re-visit to fix the leak caused by the new drain installation. I later called Mr. Prestwood and pointed out we did not have a spa leak prior his first visit and furthermore we had already paid him for his services that were not performed correctly, most likely due to his or his helper's negligence (Danny) that caused a leak during the installation of the water drain valve. Mr. Prestwood said he would refund our money or pay someone else to repair our spa, but was evasive and vague concerning his offer of restitution. He denied damaging our spa with his shoddy repair work and stated that the leak was not his fault. He then disconnected our conversation. I called Pinch-A-Penny and left a message that their recommendation for Party Spa's has resulted in damage to the spa and Mr. Prestwood is not trustworthy or professional. I would not recommend this person, nor would I recommend the Pinch-A-Pennys in Orange Park or Mandarin who recommend this so called repair service, named Party Spa's. I have since researched this person and found he is not a certified repair person and I suspect his business, Party Spa's most likely is not a legitimate business since he does not have a fictitious name according to sunbiz.org. He is in fact, a funeral home director by profession! I am out of my money and have bigger problems than where I started. Lesson Learned: Today I joined Angie's List so hopefully this will not happen in the future!

Response from Party Spa's
In reference to the complaint submitted and received by Angie's List attacking my character, work performance, and ethics I find it so distasteful that someone can be allowed to write about another, post it on the Internet with the intent to hurt another without supporting facts and nothing can be done to stop it. The remarks and facts are distorted, untrue, and are without warrant. Total charges were $205.00 that consist of $85.00 service charge, $25.00 Parts that included the 1.5 hours she stated to go get the parts that she should have multiplied by 2 to cover man hours, fuel charges and the fact that everyone knows how long it takes to go get items at a hardware store. It is not true that I told her that Lowes did not carry the parts I needed to complete the work. She was told that Lowes did not carry the plastic drain valve that was the original part on the spa which had been broken through the owner misuse. This was told to me by the spa owners. She informed me that the spa would not stop leaking at the valve area and that they were using pliers to close it. Later it was discovered that the leak was coming from the backside and uphill area of the spa and draining down and leaking out of a weep hole designed by the manufacture for condensation to drain. The spa had quit leaking due that the water level was below the leaking area. I was contacted by the member concerning her drain release valve on her dream maker spa. I informed her of our $85 service charge and was verbally contracted by her to come out. I arrived to find 6 to 8 inches of water inside the tub and found no visible signs of leaks around the tub area. At this time she made the statement that she guessed that they did get it tight enough with pliers to stop the water leak. I was contracted to replace the drain valve and work was completed by using a brass drain valve, new connection nipples, vinyl tubing, hose clamps, and mounting fasteners. The changes were authorised and refit was explained prior to doing the work. A charge of $95.00 was added for labor. Total man hours 5.5 X 2 (11) hours. The spa was lifted softly and placed on its side for the repairs by myself, my helper, and her husband. The spa was not dropped jarred or mishandled at any time, and she witnessed this procedure. I was contacted by her husband the next morning and was informed about a leak. I let him know that I would come back out that day and check it out instead of waiting until Monday which most companies do and I would head that way as soon as I completed the job that I was currently own. As I was loading up my van from the call I was own a call was received from Pinch a Penny, and asked what was going on with the member. I told him what I had told her husband and was asked to call the members to let them know that we were on our way. As stated in her letter, she implies that the only reason I came was because Pinch a Penny made me, and a simple phone call to the store will verify another misgiving statement. She also has my name misspelled, along with who is who at Pinch a Penny, what locations that they work at and what their positions are within their prospective locations. Her facts are untrue as is this complaint. I went back on a weekend to check on the situation which is very rare for any service company, inspected and tested the tub for leaks all under the observation of her husband. Upon arriving a wet area was noticed on the back side of the spa opposite from the area where the drain valve was replaced and uphill from the area. Water takes the path of least resistance, and does not run up hill, and as most patios the concrete was poured with a slope away from the house. The leaking area was shown to her husband who agreed it was preexisting, and asked me how much it would cost to fix the leak. I told him that I would do it for free. On the drive home the member called me screaming and talked to me in a manor that was very horrible using inappropriate words and accused me of destroying her spa. I asked if her husband had told her that I offered to fix it for free because she had offered to do some legal work for me? She told me that he was a drunken fool with no spine. It was a 45 minute drive back across town, and I kept attempting to calm her down. I offered to pay for 2 other companies to do a service call to verify that I did nothing wrong, and she screamed, cursed, and threatened me saying that she would destroy me. At this time I told her " I am hanging up now, I am hanging up now, please don't take this as slamming the phone down but I will not tolerate your language, tone of voice and threats. Good bye Mrs. Member, and then I disconnected the phone as she continued to scream. Facts are that The leak was preexisting, I feel that I did more than any one else would have done, and I wish that I had never accepted the job, and out of the $50 or $60 dollars I may have met it was a nightmare. I am licenced in Duval County, Florida which allows me to work on spas, and the check she paid to me was made out to me not Party Spas. I take this complaint very serious, untrue, and slanderously written to destroy me and my source of income. I would like to say that I do understand why her husband drinks. I have so many customers that would write very good recommendations for me, and I will implement this procedure.
