I started looking for a roof in 2012 and after much review, research, and planning, decided to go with Owens Corning products. The roof was not leaking so after getting estimates from about 6 firms, I settled on three, but never made a decision as the weather changed and I decided to wait until the following year(2013. I got new estimates from four companies, three of which were carryovers.. All had gone up, one over 1500 which is the one I used. Because I had heard and read horror stories, I had a list of things I wanted done and specifically these were spelled out in the contract. One of these is that the the metal flashing would be removed. There were 22 stipulations and several he confirmed through emails. The big thing was that (The Owens-Corning System Advantage Preferred Roofing Limited Warranty is included in the above quoted price.) #19 was that he was to provide the uniform Wind Mitigation Inspection form (1802) completed for me to submit to my insurance company. There were 6 inch gutters in all necessary drain area. These were not discussed until the last discussion in which Stan stated that they might have to take down the ones in the back. The other overriding factor in all the quotes was that they must use there employed workers to do the work and not subcontractors. I have a written email from Stan Leverock assuring me that he would personally be on sight to supervise the job. From the time I hired him, the solicitous attitude changed. He wanted me to go into town to meet him to complete the paper work, but I had him come back to the house to sign which is when he mentioned the back gutters. I had everything notarized and ready for him. He mentioned starting the next week. That went and I had not heard. Several emails later, he told me it would be the following Monday, but he would email me on the exact date. Never happened. I received a call from the gate (it is a gated community) and I just happened to be at home, and told the gate person he could go in figuring it had something to do with preparation. The following day, I received an email about taking some of the gutters down and realized they were there working. I went over immediately and found that a Mexican roofing company was doing the work and there was no one there from Lev-con. Almost all the gutters had been ripped off meaning they were not in any condition to be placed back. I thought there was an area on one side that looked all uneven as they had not put the Owens Corning Weather- LockGrannulated Self Sealing Ice and water Barrier smoothly so the roof tiles are uneven. ( I have had several contractors say that I will have a problem with them in the future.(This was after I had paid him) Additionally the valley is over lapped in such a way that it is not attractive. Bottom line is I paid him after we agreed to take off $500 dollars to go towards replacement of the gutters as they had them all torn down and in the bin. Before I paid him, I had him bring me a release and my Advantage Preferred Roofing Limited Warranty which was easier than bringing him to court and I felt protected me since he is one of their Preferred Contractors. Fast forward several months. First, I found out the mitigation form he completed was not done properly. Second and more important, I emailed Owens re the Warranty and their records indicated that there was no such Warranty in my name. I contacted him and he stated that he had canceled it. I have given him the opportunity to make it good, but with no response. I am writing this and going to the Better Business Bureau. I am also going to Owens, but this is the first step. The Warranty is approximately $300 which is not worth it to take to court although I will look at filng charges with the state attorney as he falsely gave me a warranty that I would never known was no good until some years later. The bottom line from this experience is that I do not care how much you research and know, if you are not there and have the expertise, you may get screwed. This best thing to do is only word of mouth from someone in your neighborhood who has used the company and they have done a good job. Angie's list is good, but not all people review a company because of the time it takes. I would not have taken the time, but I had to pay for another mitigation inspection and he conned me on the warranty. I want to make sure that Angie's customers are informed. The reason I was not at the house, was it is a rental and of course, by the time I found out, most of the important work was already done. The company he hired was out of Palm Coast.
