In this report, I was given an overall grade of an “F”. I must say, the grade reported is an unfair grade against me and our company and it does not accurately reflect the facts or the level of service I provided in treating the customer’s water. I’ve read the comments and have offered to help the customer. Please allow me to share my experience with the member from our initial meeting. Note: As most of business is generate through the referral of current customers, family and friends, the members were referred to me by my brother. My brother had previously sold the member an aeration system through his plumbing/home improvement store. He had suggested to them, that they may want to contact me to see what we could offer that would improve the quality of their water before the member installed the aerations system, because as my brother explained to the member, once it was installed, it was non-refundable.) I was originally contacted by the member for the first time, by phone on Monday, August 6th, 2012. She stated in our first initial conversation that she had a bad sulfur water problem and that she would like for us to schedule a time for us to meet her at her home and discuss treatment options for her sulfur water problem. In the first phone call/conversation from the member, I scheduled an acceptable appointment time for herself, the member and I to meet. We mutually agreed upon Thursday, August 9th, 2012 for 10:00am. Upon my arrival at her home on Thursday, August 9th, I had the great privilege of meeting the member and the husband of the member for the first time. After a brief introduction, the discussion led into the sulfur water problems her and the member expressed and wanted to get rid of. The member state that the sulfur water odor coming from her bath faucet was a problem for her when brushing her teeth and she wanted to get rid of her Sulfur water problem. When I asked, she and the member both commented on the Sulfur water and how they noticed the unbearable Sulfur odor on both the cold and hot side of their faucets located throughout their home and how its intensity was smelled at every faucet. I then tested the water at their well and shoed them the results of my sulfur test. Using the colorimeter, I explained that their results were the lowest on the colorimeter. At this mention, they both responded by saying that it would get worse at certain periods, based on rainfall, dry spells, etc. The member then mentioned that she had been doing research on the internet for Pyrolox water filters for Sulfur. I explained the Pyrolox filters were not the best choice for them. (Note: Each filter has to be properly sized and customized for individual well capacities.) I then explained the option of using the Sulfur Aeration system they had previously purchased from my brother to install on their home as on solution, or using our Well Water Conditioner as another option to consider removing any odors from her well water. I shared with the members the advantages of both products. During our discussion, the members showed me the Sulfur Aeration System they had previously purchased for their sulfur problem, yet they stated that they hadn’t installed it because they wanted to see what Sulfur system I had to offer before they installed it. I also offered to return the aeration system they had previously purchased from my brother at the plumbing supply store because it had not been installed. (Once installed, no filtration systems are refundable) the member said that he would take it back to my brother. I also shared with the members that our filtration system is custom built and that it would not require chlorine or any other chemicals to operate. The filtration system that we suggested would require periodic maintenance as well water filtration systems would. I explained that it would need the filter cleaned with chlorine about every 3 months to prevent bacteria growth. I did also suggest to them to chlorinate their well annually. At this time, I shared with them where we would install our filter and the space we would need to install the filter. The conversation then lead into the cost of our system and the installation cost. In the conversation, the member mentioned that he also had a water softener system that was not working. At this time, as we were discussing the cost of installing our filter, I told the member that I would also repair his water softener. I explained that the total cost would be $1500 and would include the filter, installation of the filter, up to $100.00 in parts for the repair of his water softener and the labor to repair his existing water softener. After explaining the cost, he mentioned that it sounded good. The member’s then said they would need some time to think about it. I responded by telling them that’s fine and to call me and let me know what they wanted to do. They were to call me once they decided if they wanted my system. Later I received a phone call from the member saying that he wanted my filter installed. We then set a mutual installation date for Wednesday, August 15th, 2012. I then expressed appreciation for their business and told him I’d be forward to helping them take care of their Sulfur well water odors. The installation went smoothly and I rebuilt the member’s water softener and put both their newly installed filter and rebuilt water softener in service. Upon meeting my obligations of getting both units in service, I discussed that it would take 24-48hrs before they would a notice a difference in smell, taste and feel of the water on the hot side due to the water heater needing to replenish the stored, unfiltered hot water currently in their water heater storage tank. They agreed this would be acceptable. After the installation and repair work that I completed, they were going to pay me then, however the member paid me the total in cash the following day. Together we both then signed the invoice/contract outlining his warranty, the water treatment problems we were addressing and the total cost. The total amount the member paid was the amount of $1500.00. This total reflected the rebuilding of his water softener ($231.00), the set-up and installation of our filtration system ($199.00), the cost of our system ($1070) including materials and applicable tax. Now skipping ahead to Saturday afternoon, I received a text from the member mentioning that they water in her home had an odor. I responded that I was working out of town in Georgia that day and would call her when I got home, if it wasn’t too late. She responded back to say that would be fine. I got home late Saturday night and didn’t call because it was very late and I then received a text Monday morning, August 20th, 2012. She mentioned that she would want to get a refund of her money. I responded by saying that I’m confident in our filter and its ability to treat her water and would get by to check on it that morning and fix the problem involving the filter or water. She responded back by saying ok. And that Tuesday morning, August 21, 2012 would be fine. We arrived early for our appointment with her to check on the filter and water. The member met me outside of their home. The member was inside their home. I discussed in detail with the member about the water. The member and I went to check on the filter, his newly rebuilt softener and the filtered water. As I suspected, the filter, the softener, and the filtered water were all working fine and the filtered water was great. He also agreed. As we talked, the member mentioned that although the water was good, that the member said the water in their home has an odor and in their home was no better (which later I discovered through another individual that she talked with that her now treated water in her words was “great”) Although, I had not been invited into their home to investigate her problem, I finally asked, if I could go inside to check the water for myself. The member then looked inside of the door and asked the member if I could come inside to check the water out. I entered the member’s home and received a rather cold reception from the member. I then explained that I wanted to check what problem she was having (based on her texts.) At that time, with her approval, I check her water in several locations and the member was with me and the member was nearby. I told her and the member that the filter was working and there were no more odors. I checked several faucets from the outside of their home as well as their kitchen, bathroom, and washing machine water. Again as I suspected, the filter was performing perfectly. The filtered water had no odors and the member agreed. At this moment, the member, seeming aggravated by my conclusion, said go check the washing machine. She stated that she had an odor coming from her washing machine (This was the first mention of her washing machine odor that she mentioned to me). I then asked for a cup to use because it was more confined area. The washing machine contained previously washed cloths that had been left in the washing machine. I then checked the water supplying their washing machine. It was also odor-free. At this finding, she said, there is a musky odor coming from my washing machine and she said the musky washer smell makes her cloths smell. I then told her that the washing machine odor is coming from the washing machine and is not my responsibility. I then offered suggestions that included chlorinating the water lines and the washer basin. She then asked the member to take me outside. While talking to the member, I googled “smelly washer”. Upon clicking search, the first website that came up was smellywaher.com. I then handed him my phone and shared the information with the member sitting next to me. This website gave very clear and concise solutions to remedy the odor that came from their washing machine. When we walked outside, I explained to the member, the musky washing machine odor is coming from the wash basin of her washing machine and the drain pump needs to be cleaned properly and is not our responsibility, but I would help him in getting the washing machine drain and drain pump cleaned to solve the problem with the odor coming from the drain pump. The member then asked if I would give the member a full refund and I said no, because we fulfilled our obligations and their rebuilt water softener and the new water filtration system we installed is performing as it was designed. (Note: Although the refund of custom or installed filters are non-refundable, we had offered a refund in this case for the cost of the filter, minus a %25 restocking fee and they never called to confirm or deny the offer.) I also explained that this odor was a common problem with some washing models and was a maintenance issue with the washing machine and had nothing to do with their water we treated. I then offered again, to help the member fix the washing machine odor and that I would help out as soon as he was ready to clean the pump. After a little small talk, I then prepared to leave. He then helped me get backed out of his driveway and I proceeded to leave.” Best Regards, Daniel Downing Integrity Water Treatment, LLC
