The use of infrared to determine that presence and extent of moisture in walls or other hidden area is priceless. Infrared allows the inspector do know how far water has traveled in a wall without doing damage to open the wall. This can save thousands in diagnostics as well as reduce the cost of repairs since the contractor can know more about the problems before work begins. To inspect without infrared is negligence!

Description of Work: Inspected a home I was contracted to purchase. Doug was great and was very patient with all my questions, including follow on ones via email. His report pointed out major repairs that the house needed and saved me from a potentially miserable home buying experience. They are more expensive than the other companies out there, but I think in this case, you get what you pay for.

The difficulty in getting homeowners insurance seems to get great every day. In years past there was seldom a request by an insurance company for a 4-point insurance inspection letter or wind mitigation certification. Times have changed! It is our recommendation that every home inspection include a 4-point insurance inspection as well as a wind mitigation inspection. This puts you in the best position to ensure that you have been given credit for every insurance discount that your home is eligible for.

Description of Work: Not willing to do IR-inspection or energy audit. Finally did the IR which showed total lack of insulation in the walls. Also charged me for some kind of insurance that was not valid for this property, but I got that money refunded. I'll never use them again.

These reports serve to both educate and/or comfort our clients regarding most of the systems of the home. Although it does take an extended amount of time to be so thorough, we do only have a limited amount of time in the home. While we utilize our technologies such as the IR cameras, digital boroscopes, and moisture meters, to gather as much information as we can, we simply must exclude some things (such as ice makers, solar panels and water softeners) whose full cycles of operation take more time than we have within a Home Inspection. Most of these systems take many, many hours to fully process completely. Regrettably, these items are not able to be checked appropriately for functionality (and so noted on your Home Inspection report). Although we understand that negotiations for the price of the purchase of your condo depended on a number of things, we are happy to be a significant part of that experience. Dealing with mold concerns in your home can be scary. Determining the source of the moisture that often leads to mold is the first order of business. Using infrared cameras as well as moisture meters to locate moisture sources then sharing methods to reduce the moisture often solves the problem without the need for expensive clean-up crews in space suits.

It's important to remember that home inspections are NOT just for the purchase of a home, rather for any and every time that an expert and objective opinion is needed. The MOST important part is a proper diagnosis of what is not doing what it should be doing. All too often there is no diagnostics, just sales from the contractor looking to do the work. The problem is made worse when the sales proposal is made by a sales person, not a construction professional. When faced with a problem in your home, it's money well spent to have a home inspector diagnose the problem, offer options for correction and then you can request proposals from contractors to do the work.

The company was very wonderful about setting a convenient appointment time and educating us on what to expect. Mr. Barbour arrived promptly on time. He inspected the home and communicated with us throughout the process. He went over the very detailed report and gave us valuable information about the hows and whys of maintenance and pre-existing problems. He left us with a huge binder that includes the home inspection report as well as loads of useful info on everything concerning the care and keeping of a house. This company was not the least expensive but I'm glad we spent the extra money - I feel it was a good investment.
