The estimate given by their representative in person at my home was for $650.00, for 3 men to move me. This included moving a dining room table and chairs, a china cabinet, and freezer (that in the final move WAS NOT moved because I decided not to take them with me). The company representative asked me to move my own flat screen televisions and glass shelves from my curio and china cabinets, which I did. They moved a king size bed, dresser, chest of drawers, 2 night stands; 2 couches, a loveseat, a chair and ottoman, a recliner, a small computer desk, a 4 drawer filing cabinet, 2 end tables, 1 coffee table, 1 curio cabinet, 4 lamps, 3 wardrobe boxes, and other boxes that I had packed. They also moved a small gas grill (not the gas) a redwood picnic table with 2 benches, and 5 large potted plants. This was all included in the $650.00 estimate given to me by their representative. The movers unloaded the furniture at the new location, but put ALL of the boxes in the garage stacked, not in individual rooms. They took FREQUENT smoking breaks and the driver, an older gentleman, did not move items. One of the moving men was very sarcastic and rude. I even tipped all 3 men $20.00 in cash. Then I was told the bill was $969.51, $319.51 OVER the estimate, and they didn't even move all of the furniture or the freezer that was in the original estimate. Supposedly, they are going to send me $120.00 refund. I do not feel that is enough. I think that at least a $250.00 refund is in order. After all, not a lot of gas was used and they didn't do as much as the estimate stated. I still have not received the $120.00 that they state they have sent. If they check their accounts they will see that no check has cleared and I HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT. However, they cashed my check at the bank and it cleared the VERY SAME DAY OF THE MOVE! WE WROTE THE CHECK ON FRIDAY, MAY 10TH AND IT CLEARED FRIDAY, MAY 10TH! They need to make things right with me, and soon!
Description of Work: Moved furniture and boxes on a local move of less than 5 miles.

The company was very sloppy in sending correspence related to my move, they changed the pack date to the load date and it took 12 hours to load and pack on a very small load. The agent estimated 51 boxes to be used and only 21 were used so the agent padded the boxes and when I reach out to the corp main office in Jacksonville they refuse to help or make an adjustment to the total cost. On the day of delivery the driver was 3 hours late from agreed upon time of arrival and it took 7 hours to unload with 2 people.
Description of Work: Packed and loaded my furniture for delivery from Florida to Georgia.

Response from Hills Van Service of North Florida Inc
In response to the member’s comments, very respectfully, the member’s original pack day was scheduled for June 18, 2012. Due to an unexpected surge in job orders, our sales rep asked the member, on June 12th, if she would be available on Friday, June 15, 2012, for our crew to pack her household goods. She responded that she would not. At that point, we checked with interstate dispatch to find out if the driver would be able to pack her shipment on June 18th. They responded that the driver would pack her household goods on Tuesday, June 19th, the scheduled load date. Our sales rep phoned the member on June 13, 2012 to advise her that the driver would pack the following week on June 19, 2012. While customers normally appreciate having the pack and load completed in one day, as it provides additional time for the customer to complete other tasks associated with moving, the member told our sales rep that she was uncomfortable with the pack and load occurring the same day, but that “…it’s too late now to find another mover ...”. Our sales rep explained to her that he did not want her to feel uncomfortable about moving with our company and that, if she preferred, he would help her locate another moving company. She refused the offer. The member’s signed estimate reveals that 41 cartons (not 51 cartons) were to be packed by our company. According to the move documents, the driver packed a total of 22 cartons. The reduction occurred when the member decided to pack, without notifying our office or sales rep, some of the cartons herself. Had the member notified our office, prior to the pack/load date, that she had decided to pack more of her cartons, our sales rep would have revised her Estimate accordingly. Since we were unaware that she had packed those cartons, until the driver arrived to load, we were unable to revise the estimate. Our company offers three different options for the Estimated Cost of Services / Order For Service. 1) The Binding / Guaranteed Price Estimate: The customer pays only the guaranteed estimated price as it appears on the estimate. 2) The Customer Benefit / Not To Exceed Estimatre: The customer pays either the guaranteed price, or the actual charges incurred, whichever is lower. 3) The Non-Binding Estimate: The customer pays the actual charges incurred during the move. The member chose the first option, The Binding / Guaranteed Price Estimate. Again, if the member had notified our Jacksonville office prior to the pack/load date (in other words prior to the driver arriving to pack and load her shipment) they would have been able to revise her estimate. It is important to note that the member’s originally planned to reside in Buford, GA. That changed during her house-hunting trip, and she acquired an apartment in Suwannee, which is located approximately 6 miles southwest of Buford. We reduced the member’s bound price by $45.70. Regarding loading on June 19th: the driver arrived at 8:30 am to load the member’s shipment. She moved from a three-story townhouse, which does add additional time to loading. What actually caused the extended load time, that day, was that the crew had to load between the various thunderstorms that moved through the area during loading. The crew left her residence at 8:05 pm. Regarding delivery: the driver arrived on time at 1:20 pm on June 21st--the first day in the member’s delivery spread. When the member told the driver, on load day, that she may not be able to have access to her new apartment until late morning, the driver revised his delivery schedule to make the member the second delivery on June 21, 2012. He first delivered 5 cartons in Douglas, GA, at 8 am. At 8:15, the driver phoned the member to advise her that he was en route, and that he would arrive between 1:00 and 1:30 PM. At approximately 11:15 am (after she had spoken with the driver earlier at 8:15 am), the member phoned the Orlando office, very agitated, complaining that the driver was late, and demanding to know where he was. I told her that I would contact the driver, and call her back. The driver verified that he did call her at 8:15, and also that he did tell her he would arrive between 1:00 and 1:30 to deliver. I then phoned the member, and reminded her that the driver had advised her earlier of his arrival time. She was very calm, gave her thanks and hung up. The driver arrived at 1:20 pm to deliver. We at Hill’s Van Service / National Van Lines, strive to be as flexible and accommodating as possible during the management of a customer’s move. Anyone who has been involved in the trucking industry is aware of how the movement of commercial, or household goods, is so easily affected by unexpected variables in the economy; the weather; traffic; the mechanical condition of the equipment involved in the move; the sale and closing of a home; family emergencies, and so on: there are too many to mention here. And to someone who isn’t familiar with the industry, it’s sometimes difficult to understand the complexities of the move contract, and the unexpected variables that control or affect the move.
