Merrell was a very nice guy who came off as able to do just about anything. After we signed a contract and the work started, first payment made, we started to notice he had bought material far in excess of what was needed (insulation, tile pieces, sealant). Additionally, he was very wasteful with buckets of mortar. He also rushed work as in trying to seal grout before it had fully cured. In regards to his wood work, I am looking at a fireplace mantel with several uneven cuts. He never completed the framing in of the bathroom window so will need to hire someone else to do that. He had us schedule the shower glass people prior to his completion so they were unable to measure and had to come back another day. Most days he worked 4 hours or less, so lots of disruptions. Help from the homeowner was needed on several occasions, though he didn't ask for it but he was getting bogged down. In the roughly 100 hours he spent on the projects, there was a lot of down time. His crew was working on another project that seemed to be a distraction for him. Overall, the projects are now left unfinished and looking for another contractor to reliably complete them.

Overall, the team at Happy Homes did a fantastic job. This is a family and veteran owned business that does quality work. We had a lot of external issues to deal with (i.e. pandemic and supply chain issues), but Marrell, Cody, and Dylan were there through it all to ensure that the final product was up to my standards. Even when I asked for a couple of changes to the project, the guys were able to make the necessary adjustments without any pushback. Their pricing was fair and transparent, and they even came back to make some minor repairs at no additional cost when the original plumbing had some issues unrelated to their installation. The point is that they wanted to get it right and make the customer satisfied. In addition, I spent a lot of time with these guys throughout the process and I can honestly say you'd be hard-pressed to find a nicer, more courteous team in construction. There is a reason why they continue to be in high demand despite being a small outfit- they are exceptional workers with a range of skills who get the job done. I cannot recommend them enough.

Contracted Marrell and his company to gut and remodel our main bathroom, We live in a double wide mobile home. We had him remove one vanity, the garden tub, build a huge walk in shower, move out toilet to accommodate the new shower, reroute water lines and sewer lines under the floor, and lay down new flooring. The work was performed to perfection. His crew were very punctual and cleaned after themselves everyday. He also installed a new larger vanity. The work was completed well above our expectations that we contracted him to to do our small bathroom as well. Pretty much the, same work was performed again, without having to remove a garden tub, due to one not being in that bathroom. If you want quality work, integrity above so many, fair prices, i would highly recommend this company. I will definitely rehire them again if I have another need.

Marrell and Cody were a pleasure to work with they are professional, polite and prompt. I originally hired Marrell and Cody to replace my backsplash tile in the kitchen, but as we were discussing of what I wanted done in the kitchen I asked if he could do work in the hallway and master bathroom. And not only did they installed my backsplash but they also did a Mosaic tile in my hallway and master bathroom. They retiled the master bathroom floor, replaced the shower and bath hardware. Installed a door in my kitchen, installed my dishwasher and microwave. Marrell and Cody are a pleasure to work with and I would hire them again. As a matter of fact I let him know that I might be wanting some new floors installed in the kitchen and living room area. For all the work they done what they charged me was very reasonable. But I would definitely recommend them they do good quality work.

Mr. Cercy and his son Cody were a lifesaver. I have used them many times over the years and will continue to do so and refer to others. Not only was I completely satisfied with the results but extremely grateful they were able to get the job done quickly even though it was over the Thanksgiving holiday week.

I am so happy with my new master bathroom. Marrell and his team are meticulous and take great pride in their work, and it shows. They do things the RIGHT way, which is not always the fast way. But that trade off, to me, is well worth it. He makes great suggestions based on experience and has a keen attention to detail. The product vendors that he works with are top-notch. If you are ok with the sub-contractor business model (which is accurately represented here) , Marrell is your guy.

Outstanding work. Good communication; prompt, was onsite when they were scheduled onsite, cleaned-up daily, sourced materials at competitive prices, pleasant staff. Overall all the work performed was done well. After completion a few items showed up that needed to be adjusted. Promptly scheduled and resolved well. Very pleased.

I am very pleased with the quality and professionalism of Marrell and his son! I needed my bathroom completely redone due to water damage and I was having a hard time finding someone who was not unprofessional or rude on the initial call for estimate. During our repairs we a death in the family and Marrell told us he would give us a week to handle what we needed to and he would resume repairs that following week. Not many people would offer that and the fact that he did it without worrying about the negative impacts it could have on his work schedule and especially financial schedule. They were very polite and respectful at all times. Their work ethics were definitely what I would call "old school" and very uncommon these days The job was completed faster than initially quoted and the quality far exceeded what I expected at the beginning! I definitely would recommend using Marrell and his company Happy Homes.

I engaged with Marrell and Happy Homes in March to help me remodel a 2 bed room condo that I rent. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. The job started with a walk through and discussion around what I wanted done. I immediately found Marrell easy to work with. He is an honest and straight forward gentleman with a lot of experience and knowledge. We talked about what I wanted to end up with, some options for different things and some corners to cut or not. Marrell got a very detailed quote back to me very quickly. As Marrell states clearly in his description, he is not a general contractor. His quote was for Happy Home's labor cost to do the work. We also talked about approximate material costs so I'd have insight into how much the whole job would cost in the end. Marrell and team replaced my flooring throughout the whole house, installed new kitchen cabinets, counters and appliances, refinished bath tubs, replaced drywall around the tub and installed tile, replaced bathroom vanities, painted the walls, put in a tile back splash in the kitchen, replaced my toilets, put up some new light fixtures and blinds, and helped me get a very fair deal on replacing the water heater. The overall cost of the project including materials was between $35,000 and $40,000. The way Marrell works was perfect for me. He had great suggestions on where to source materials while also being completely open to sources I wanted to use for some things. Throughout the project, Marrell delivered timely and detailed summaries of his costs while also providing me itemized lists and receipts for materials he bought on my behalf. The whole process was efficient and transparent. The quality of the work done was very good. Marrell takes pride in doing a good job and this is reflected in the end result. Like with any fairly big project some things came up along the way and we worked through these together. Marrell and team ended up doing a few things that weren't on the original quote, but made sense to me. We also had to make a few minor adjustments to the original plan in a couple of places. Like I said, this is par for the course and we worked through these items easily together. The final outcome was great. I had a tenant signed up within 24 hours of listing the unit- and really who wouldn't want to live in a place where every surface you touch is new and everything looks great. Marrell's suggestions along the way were great. Sometimes he'd suggest cutting a corner and other times spending a little more to do something better. I really enjoyed working with Marrell and the Happy Homes team. I absolutely plan to connect with them again next time I have work I need done. It is truly a pleasure to work with people that take pride in their work and can be trusted to hold up their end of a handshake.

Complete disclosure. This was the first time my husband Brian and I have ever done a remodel. We have learned A LOT. We purchased a home built in 1979 and there were several projects we wanted to tackle. We found Happy Homes of Jax through Angie's List and the reviews were solid. We contacted Marrell and he came out to the house to talk about our project. Marrell was professional, friendly and very polite. (This was very important to me; if I was going to be dealing with a contractor one-on-one while my husband was at work, I wanted to make sure I was comfortable with him.) We discussed TWO projects with him - remodeling the hall bath and the master bath. We could only do one at a time so that we still had a working bathroom. He carefully explained that his quote for the job would ONLY include the costs of his labor. It would not include any materials. This worked well for us because we planned to shop around for the materials as well as for great same-as-cash financing. Marrell provided us with his labor quotes and required materials lists. (We understood that other materials may be needed but the initial list was the bulk of the needs.) Marrell quoted us $9K for the labor for the hall bath and Brian and I thought that was a fair bid so we decided to move forward with the hall bath project first. The scope of this remodel was a full demo down to the studs, move the bathroom door, move the vanity to a different wall and install new drop-in soaker tub with tile framing. The only thing we didn’t do was move the toilet although we did still replace it with a new one. (We actually purchased ALL the materials we needed for this project, the Master bath project, as well as all the new vinyl flooring that we wanted put down throughout the entire house. We figured we couldn't risk just buying enough for the hall bathroom and have it be gone when we needed it for the rest of the house so we bought it all. This also allowed us to get better long term financing due to the higher totals.) Marrell began with two workers the second week of Feb 2019. He explained that at the end of every week’s work, we would receive an itemized Cost Sheet of what work was completed that week and how much would be owed at that time. We paid him weekly with checks as he does not take credit card. Everything proceeded as expected through demo and framing. The delivery of the tub slowed Marrell down but to no fault of his. (Totally blame Lowe’s on that one so much that I ended up buying my tub through Build.com – awesome experience FYI.) Marrell let one of his workers go so the rest of the project, it was just Marrell and his son Cody. It was about this point in the process that we started casually discussing the paint that we wanted when Marrell advised that painting was not part of the quote. This should NOT have come as a surprise because guess what? It was not part of the quote. It never dawned on me that the total I saw on the itemized quote would not include painting. The quote also did not include any electrical work that needed to be done. (Marrell did get a quote from the plumber that he subcontracts through so that charge was referenced.) I wish this was discussed more thoroughly at the beginning but I can only blame myself in not carefully reviewing the itemized list on the quote and questioning the lack of paint and electrical at that time. This is one key point I would want others to understand when working with Happy Homes. The quote is truly for the construction portion of the project. He regularly uses a plumber, an electrician, etc. and uses their services according to the project needs but the costs may or may not be included in the quote. I never met the plumber but the work was done well and all in one day. I was here the day the electrician came and we liked Jack and his work ethic so much, we hired him back to do a couple of other electrical projects we had in the house. Marrell recommended we talk to Angie, the subcontractor he uses for all his drywall mudding. He said that she also does painting. Her mud work was very solid so we did also use her for some of the painting we needed, both in the bathroom and other bedrooms. While the mud work she did in our bathroom and in the living room around the crown molding is superb, the painting was only mediocre and the edging is sloppy. She spent much of her time while she was at our house on her cellphone and we felt that many areas that needed attention are still not done. At this point, we have not asked her back to “finish” and would not recommend using her for paint work in the future. I cannot fail to mention that new flooring in the bathroom WAS part of our initial quote. Being a novice to remodeling, my husband and I did not realize how unrealistic our expectation was of how this would work. You can’t really just replace the bathroom tile without affecting the different flooring type in the hallway. When we talked it over with Marrell, we realized that it would make sense to keep going with the flooring. He provided an updated flooring quote to put down the new vinyl flooring in the bath, AND the hallway, the three bedrooms off of the hallway and the foyer and living room. We also saved a little money on demo since in the sunken living room, we were able to install the new flooring right on top of the old flooring. Marrell and Cody wrapped up the third week of March even with the extra floor project and their work looks amazing. The tile work in the bathroom is excellent, both on the walls and around the tub. The flooring looks great. The before and after pictures say it all. Marrell even helped demo the old shelves in two of my closets and install new shelves. Oh, he also hung our new front door too! At my request, he came back one more time last week to rehang my bathroom mirror horizontally instead of vertically. Needless to say, Marrell was flexible and easy to work with. Overall, it was a pleasure to work with Marrell and we obviously plan to use him again (as soon as we save up enough for the labor on project two!)

This was our second time hiring Happy Homes and again, we are very satisfied with their work. Marrell, Cody and Jerry are great guys and are genuine in their care for your home and desire to make you, the home owner, happy. It was a lengthy project, about 10 weeks over the holidays. Throughout the project Marrell was flexible and worked around our schedule and hit key milestones to ensure our house was ready for Christmas. We think Happy Homes provides a high level of service and quality at a fair price and I would not hesitate to hire them again.

Our shower had a leak that resulted in mold growing into the adjacent bedroom and closet. We contacted Merrill's company after reading all the great reviews on this website. He was very pleasant and flexible with his time. He accommodated our busy schedules. All the work was done in a 3 days time. While in our home, Merrill's team was very conscious of cleanliness in the home and work area. The whole project was completed without additional complications. We are very pleased with the final outcome and having had the pleasure to make a connection with a person as pleasant and trustworthy as Merrill. We will use his services in the future without any hesitation.

Marrel and team did a great job on my sister's house. Marrel worked with me although I live in another state and also coordinated directly with my sister who remained in the house while the work was in progress. I was able to fly down and assist my sister with the selection of laminate, tile, cabinets, appliances, etc. The team of three started as scheduled and did not leave until the job was completed. They removed all of the carpet and installed wood laminate flooring throughout the entire house. They addressed the challenges of the house built in 1959. They removed old kitchen cabinets and installed new cabinets, microwave and dishwasher. They coordinated the installation of granite countertops and sink, electrical work, and wall mudding. We paid for the materials, cabinets, appliances, flooring, electrician, disposal and wall mudding separately, The price below is only for Marrel and team's labor. The work was done very well, but as important to me was the fact that they treated my sister and her home well. How often do your contractors leave with you gaining new friends!! We would definitely use Happy Homes of Jax again and feel like our working with them was meant to be. The grand total cost for the entire kitchen remodel and flooring throughout the house was $36,000. Happy Homes labor was the $16,300, Cabinets, wood laminate flooring , granite countertops, tile, dishwasher, microwave, other materials and disposal were $17,600. There is an opportunity for improvement of the estimate. The initial estimate was only about half of the total cost of Happy Homes' labor. Some additional costs were expected, as you have to wait until demo to know the full extent of the required work, but the estimate could have been more complete. They still did a great job and are great people and I would definitely work with them again!!

None of that work was done by Happy Homes. We installed baseboard, bi-fold doors and demolished kitchen cabinets. That’s all we done for you. You undoubtedly have us mixed up with another contractor. Again we didn’t do any painting or drywall for you. We were already gone before the painters arrived.

Exceeded expectations. I had complete gut of master bathroom. Rip out old tile, bathtub, toilet, take down popcorn ceiling and replace plumbing. Happy Homes contracted out plumber (who was also AMAZING) but did everything else themselves. On time, cleaned up PERFECTLY every single day, did exactly what I wanted, asked questions if not sure, stayed on schedule, flexed if we needed them to. Friendly, LOCAL AMERICAN business owner. Overall, we had a great experience with Happy Homes; Marrell and his son Cody were a pleasure to work with. What I appreciated most was Marrell’s word; he said it was going to cost X and take 2-2.5 weeks and in the end that was exactly the costs and timeframe. Two and a half weeks may seem like a long time compared to some, but Marrell’s attention to detail and craftsmanship show in the final product. Don’t get me wrong, there were unexpected items that arose, some mold or additional supplies that were needed due to the products we chose, but Marrell was flexible and kept the project on track. Happy Homes is a small business so be prepared to purchase all of the supplies for your project; I personally prefer this approach as I know exactly what I am paying for materials vs what I am paying for the work to be done. We look forward to using Happy Homes for our future projects.

Fantastic!!! Marrell, Cody, and Les were very friendly, very professional, and attentive to our needs and requests. Under a particular request to complete the work within a designated time, as to accomodate other remodeling, such as painting and new furniture delivery, they completed the work on time and without hassle. Very nice, courteous, conscientious, and down-to-earth workers! We have used their services two times prior, over the past 10 years. You can count on their work! Have not needed to call them back to fix anything they've done. They do it right the 1st time and it's done with the best effort possible.
