I called on Hammond Air when my husband and I completely had it with our other AC company. I called initially to ask about service plans, and also to see if they did AC Unit Cleanings. In the upstairs of our home we have a separate AC unit. We were experiencing a musty, damp smell and for years we haven't been able to figure out what the problem was. So we decided to have the air ducts and AC unit checked out. To our surprise, we had years of mold damage inside the unit which was just circulating throughout the upstairs unit, vents etc. I discussed the project with the owner Brandon and he said they definitely did this sort of thing and would be more than happy to help! Due to some travel, there were some delays on my end scheduling the cleaning but we finally just had it done! Paul was our technician and he was so nice. Very knowledgeable as well. He was here for quite some time, so I know it was a big project. They did make some recommendations a UV Light and System cleaner, but due to some other costly home repairs we just had to hold off for now. We were very pleased with the work and look forward to working with Hammond in the future for our yearly services.

My husband had surgery and the next day while home recuperating we noticed our house was getting warmer. This was a Saturday evening when I called and left a message asking if we could get someone out the next day. Brandon called back within 15 minutes and said he was on his way. We were so grateful. It awful too be without an A/C in Florida, but to be without A/C after surgery is pure misery. Thank you Brandon and the whole Hammond team. You are the BEST!!

I remember this call well. It was my weekend to run service and we were booked out through Sunday night. Mrs Ploetners call came in and with combination of her being on our yearly maintenance program and a medical condition involved i bumped her to the very next call. Seldom do we actually get to feel we really helped someone, outside of just being a repair guy providing comfort. Providing comfort is great... but, this is one of those times were you can pull out of the driveway with a smile knowing you provided a quality service to someone really in need. Ended up getting service agreement (systems are older) and black lights. More $$$ than anticipated but since this is Florida, we don't want the A/C to go out.
Description of Work: Clean and blow out drain pipe - float valve had cut power to system due to clogged drain. Jeff showed me where the pipes drain to outside and explained in detail what the problem was, what he did, and possible future issues or things to be aware of in the future.

I called around 3:30 p.m. on a Friday for someone to come out and fix our AC. John came out after 5 p.m. and looked at it and listened to our description of the problem. He suggested that there might be something wrong with the electric - and that he was not allowed take off our fuse panel and look behind it because they aren't licensed for that. He said we should contact an electrician instead. So, we got an electrician to come and check our system and he said it was fine. He charged us $125 for the call. So we called Hammond back again and this time Brandon came out and looked at the unit again and replaced the capacitor at around 7:45 p.m. He apologized for missing the problem during the first service call and - this was very nice - waived the cost of the second call for us because we had had to call out and pay for the electrician. We only had to pay for their initial visit.

Paul arrived right on time and immediately began doing a step-by-step assessment of the AC system, including cleaning the filter, etc. We had been having some problems with it getting as cool as we would have liked during the hottest days when the temperature was over 90 degrees. It ran constantly. Unfortunately, the unit is quite old and several problems were found. I decided the price to repair the problems was not worth it due to the age of the system. He took the time to give me an estimate of the cost of a new unit, but we decided to run this one, until it dies completely, hopefully making it through the summer. When it comes time to replace it, I will probably call Hammond. I was quite impressed with his recomendations and professionalism. I appreciated that he took a down to earth approach and didn't try to talk me into the new unit immediately when I said we would probably keep running this one as long as it was cooling sufficiently.

It turned out real good. They were on time. The one thing I liked it was a small company, the owner is who I was talking with for scheduling and he actually came out when I had a unit installed. I have two units in my house. He gave me the quote and I like dealing with small service centres like that.

I don't usually provide a review for a service right after it's been completed. That's due to me wanting to confirm that the service provided proves itself through time. It's been about a year and a half since this service was done and all is well. There's a lot that goes into A/C units and a lot of ancillary components may be manufactured in places that don't necessarily have the best quality control. The starter capacitor on my compressor unit (the round or box like housing that usually sits outdoors) had burned out. Paul confirmed my suspicions and replaced the unit taking little time to complete the task. We talked of the relative quality of Chinese capacitors as compared to American made units and our personal opinions were in agreement. Unfortunately, all he had in his truck were Chinese manufactured capacitors so I settled for that as it was August and very hot outside. He then did a cursory check of my compressor's pressure and checked terminations. The price for the Chinese capacitor plus a reasonable markup was nothing that I could argue with and his labor was in line with what he had performed. I maintain the air handling unit (the rectangular cabinet that houses the filter and feeds your duct work; usually located in the garage or indoors) myself if at all possible. If I have a problem with something that would be more cost effective calling a professional or something that my disability restricts me from doing myself, I will certainly contact Hammond A/C first. Their work was first rate, the tech was friendly and knowledgeable, and the pricing was most assuredly better than I could have received by most other A/C maintenance and repair companies.
Description of Work: The A/C tech, Paul, talked with me first before evaluating my system's problem. As a structural, mechanical, civil, geotechnical, and materials engineer, I can pretty much determine what is wrong with my system before anybody comes out and, before I became disabled from a toxic pharmaceutical prescribed by an unscrupulous cardiologist, would fix the unit myself. However, I needed a quick fix as it was a hot August day and didn't have time to wait to go buy a new capacitor. Paul confirmed my evaluation, replaced the starter capacitor, and then checked the rest of my unit for proper operation.

Very impressed with Hammonds service. I even had them drop off cards and my dad just had them out to service their unit and was equally pleased. Very kind honest and down to earth. I had many companies come out to do estimates to replace our units, but Hammond Air stood out above the rest.
Description of Work: Great estimate with options and ratings. Very informative, honest and patient. No run around. Pulled permit and set up inspection. Directed very pleasant, professional installers who were clean and polite. Came by to make sure I was happy with the job. The price includes a ten year warranty that covers labor and trip fees to go with the parts warranty provided by the manufacturer. Great value and peace of mind.

The deal that I purschased did not covered the issue I had with my Air Conditioner. They came to check my air conditioner and replaced a part for $300 and after few weeks I had a problem again so they came again and changed the coil it for $600. The price was high. I don't have any problem with them or their service.

After noticing that our air handler (and possibly the heat pump itself) would not turn off, I consulted Angie's List for a coupon for a local HVAC repair company. I purchased a $45 coupon from Hammond that promised a $45 service call and repair. The company was efficient in getting a service technician to our house the next day. It took him about one hour to diagnose the problem as a bad zone control board and he quoted me a price of $600. He arrived a few days later, as arranged, with a new board. He installed the board in 30 minutes and gave me a bill for $689 for the repair and original service call. I told him that I had an Angie's List coupon for service and repair and he left to change the bill to $645 for which I wrote a check. When he handed me the bill, it showed that the charge was $645 ($600 for the repair PLUS $45 for the Angie's List coupon which I'd already purchased)! I explained that I had already purchased the coupon and the technician said that the charge was $600. By this point, I started to think something was very arbitrary with the way that he was determining price. I went to the Internet and found the exact control board that he had replaced for $150. So here are the questions I would ask Angie's List (who sold me the coupon) and Hammond who did the repair: 1. Hammond - The bill that I received did not detail the cost of the part and the cost of labor. If you can get the part for $150 (or less, as someone in the business), how much did you charge me for the 30 minutes it cost to install the part? 2. Angie's List - What exactly did I receive for purchasing a $45 coupon from Angie's List for "Service Call AND REPAIR"? I'll stipulate that the service call was the first day's visit when the problem was diagnosed, but what repair did I receive for the coupon? I feel ripped off. This is my first experience actually using Angie's List and I'm anxious to see how this situation is handled; it will determine if I continue to subscribe and recommend the List in the future or not. Let me also note for the record that the repair technician was personable, courteous and skillful.

The best A/C company in Jacksonville. The owner Brandon came out and determined why I was having so many dripping issues from the ducts. The job, done by ANOTHER company, was a real mess. I have had air flow issues, noise issues and condensation issues (off the ducts) for a long time. Stained ceilings, poorly connected ducts, leaking air. These were issues I found personally, checking with a flashlight. I dealt with A/C companies before and been UNhappy. I feel so fortunate to have found Hammond through Angie's list. Brandon is brilliant about A/C systems and a trustworthy guy. He knew exactly what to do. Very customer focused. Honest pricing. I will ONLY use Hammond from now on. I call it as I see it. I?ve used Hammond Air in the past and they were extremely efficient and very professional which is the reason I decided to go with them again. I contacted them about our unit just prior to a holiday weekend. They immediately scheduled an appointment to check it out the following morning. After inspecting the upstairs unit, we were given the sad news that the motor had frozen up. The technician (Paul) did everything he possibly could do to get it jump started but sadly it would not give. Our unit was old so we had to make a decision to either replace the motor or go with a replacement system. Brandon (owner) contacted us that afternoon to give us quotes of what it would cost to fix the old unit and the cost for replacing the whole system. Brandon was very professional, he explain that he could either get out the following morning to replace the motor or schedule us for the following Monday to replace the unit. Since our downstairs unit was working (so we were not without air) we decided to have the upstairs system replaced. Brandon got us on the books the following Monday for the unit replacement. Come Monday morning, the install technicians (Mike and Kurt) were prompt with their arrival time, got the old unit pulled out and the new unit in and working by that afternoon. They were professional, courteous and cleaned up afterwards. As I previously stated, I?ve used Hammond Air in the past and will continue to use them in the future. I will recommend them to family and friends and anyone else who needs A/C work.

I have actually edited my review and changed the answer to the question "Would I use them in the future from No to YES!" The difference for me is, I would make sure when speaking to the guy giving me the estimate that we both clearly understand each other. I have left my original review below these are the events as I remember them. I "will" recommend Hammond to my friends and neighbors. The owner/manager of the company Brandon and therefore the company is very honorable. They said satisfaction 100% guaranteed on the website (which I did not even see that promise) Brandon called me agreed there was a disconnect in communications and ripped up my charge slip said there is no charge. He did not agree with me, actually sided with his employees... As an employee of my company I found that honorable as well. My bottom line, very friendly... courteous... probably very knowledgeable. My version of what happened. Brandon (the boss) came out to look at the site and provide an estimate... he did, very friendly and professional. When the tech came out two days later, nothing was done as discussed. The appointment was for between 4-6pm, they arrived at 6pm. The Senior tech came out with an OJT trainee they took the AC apart and inspected it Neither of the techs covered their shoes after walking through the mud in the front and the floor had to be cleaned twice. None of the things that Brandon/Estimator suggested needed to be done were done. Mainly because tech said he did not have the required materials on the truck (cork seal for new return ducts, etc). I thought they were supposed to do a level 1 clean (basically rinse the coils with a hose), and install the return ducts, this is what Brandon told me would happen. It was suggested by the tech that arrived, that my husband could disassemble the package unit himself and lift it up on one side and rinse the coils. My understanding was the $78 would include the hose rinse of the coils with the inspection, that did not happen.

. The service man from Hammond Air that came to our house to check out the upstairs unit said we needed a new motor and the cost would be $967.00 for the motor plus install charge. It didn't sound right to me since the motor was only a year old so I called another company to look at it and they said I needed a new fan board and that the motor was fine. The fan board was only $145.00 and it has been working great. I tried calling Hammond Air to tell them what happened and they have failed to return my call. I feel badly that I paid 89.50 for nothing but I sure am glad that I called another company or I would have been out a lot more money for something that didn't need to be replaced.

I don't run as much service these days but i did catch this call on one of our busier days during July. During the service call I double checked Air Handler motor, board and main power. I was confident the motor was the problem. If the customer had went forward with my company and replaced part, but still had a problem, I would have returned motor and installed proper part. I am not in the field as much these days but I was an AC technician for years and feel very well versed in my trade. But, even with my years of training and experience I can get a diagnostic wrong, as does every field technician. I tried to contact the member several times. I am fully prepared to refund 100% of her service charge. The only thing I have asked for is a copy of the invoice showing work performed by other service company. What seems so strange is I double checked the motor and the board, the board tested good and the motor tested bad. I was 100% sure of this at the time. Her review mentioned the fan board was bad and was replaced at $145.00 but the direct cost on the board is higher than stated repair price. Unless she was able to find paperwork showing the system under warranty the whole thing seems strange. As far as warranty is concerned the Air Handler was 5 1/2 years old with a 5 year warranty. The individual motor in the Air Handler was replaced by another company around May of 2013 with a one year independent warranty; she had documents showing the motor warranty was clearly expired. So, I advised her to go through all her old paper work to try and find the original install date of the Air Handler. I helped her sign on to the city of Jacksonville website to see if the installing company had pulled a permit which would show exact install date, no permit was pulled. Normally an Air Handler will sit in the wholesale warehouse 3-6 months before sold so there was a strong chance if she had any paperwork I could warranty the part, but without paperwork warranty would default to the manufactured date instead of install date. The type of motor she had in her unit was a variable speed blower motor which is about 3 times the price of a standard air handler motor. This made it a big deal to try and find warranty information and why I stayed at customer’s home an extra half hour to try and assist in finding original warranty documents. Unfortunately she was unable to find any documents so I gave her two prices: $967.00 to install motor if not under warranty and $180.00 to install motor if under warranty. I hate this happened. I want to earn new customers with quality honest work not run them off trying to make a quick dishonest buck. Bottom line is the member would never have been out $960.00 if the motor turned out not to be the problem or the original equipment documents were found and system was under warranty. It was really good. My husband negotiated a good deal with them. We don't have anything but good things to say about them. I need to call them to come out and take a look at it. It wasn't cheap. The people they sent out to talk about the installation of the new system stood out. They were knowledgeable. It was between them and another company and we could have gone with either one. We would recommend both of them. Their price was very good and it was neck in neck with the other company.

I can certainly understand the member’s frustration with AC equipment. The system wasn’t installed in April of this year but last July of 2013. Within two weeks of the installation a problem developed with the equipment’s expansion valve which regulates the refrigerant flow to the inside unit. We immediately sent a technician out and repaired the valve. Within a few weeks the valve malfunctioned again, again we came out as agreed and on schedule, this time replacing the valve and a few other parts that may have been related to the problem. From this time close to a year passed with no issues with the equipment. May of this year we received another call with similar issues and again it was the same exact problem. At this point I consulted directly with the manufacturer and expressed my displeasure both on my customer’s behalf and ours. We made the repair again in May but this time used a new type of valve the manufacturer suggested. I think, hope, this problem has been solved for the member. If this problem arises again I will have more than enough history to go directly to the manufacturer and ask them to provide a new AC system.
