Description of Work: They replaced our A/C unit and air handler. They were very professional and made sure that the work was done correctly. They followed up a few days later to find out if we had any questions and if the unit was performing to our satisfaction.

I have been with Bowman since 2008, a friend referred them because they can be trusted. I had been told that my unit couldnt be fixed and a new one would cost me $6k. Bowman replaced 3 little valves and the lost refrigerant and it lasted me two more years! When it did finally go, they installed a Rheem for $3250, in record time. The city inspector told me, whoever installed it did an impressive job. All their techs are knowledgable and courteous, can't say enough about Bowman.
Description of Work: i just renewed for my year (2 visits).

It was incredible! We had been customers of Bowman since purchasing our home in May 2000. They had been out a few times for routine maintenance and small repairs. When our A/C completly went out, we called for service. A technician came out, identified the problem, and gave us an estimate for replacement. When we approved the transaction, our unit was ordered and a couple of days later, it was installed. The installer came out with a helper. The two of them worked wonderfully well as a team and within hours, the new unit was put into place. The only hiccup occurred when a city inspector came out and determined the slab that the unit was on was too close to the house. They had used the existing slab and, apparently the codes had changed a little since the old unit was installed. Once Bowman was alerted to the problem, they immediately called to set up an appointment to have someone come correct the concern. In the years that I have been doing business with Bowman, I have been very happy with their service. Brian is usually the tech that services my home. His punctuality, professionalism, and cleanliness both in appearance and the way he leaves my home when the job is finished has been outstanding. Bowman's secretary, Jules, is an excellant liaison when scheduling service. I appreciate her maintenance and appointment reminders and the way she calls the day of the appointment, 30 minutes prior to the tech arriving.

It has been about 6-7 months and I have had multiple problems since then. First problem (within a couple of weeks) was a leak in a part that they told me the didn't replace. So they charged me hundreds of dollars more and I paid for that repair and didn't argue or get upset. At least 2 other times I had them come out for problems. Once, they didn't charge me. As soon as I turned on the heat--another problem--no heat! Just cold airing blowing out. Once again, they have described it as "something they didn't replace." So they will fix-- but, of course, charge me. In their defense, they came out right away to fix my heat. They got it to work temporarily, but I still have a repair that I will need to fix. I was very angry that they were going to charge me for this repair as the problem only occurred with me turning on the heat for the first time. I feel that it is statistically impossible for the problem to occur THE VERY FIRST TIME I TURN ON THE HEAT if they had wired it up properly. They claim to have tested the heat but never with me around and only (in the past tense) now that there is a problem. Also, after the job was complete, when I thought the tech had left, he was all of the sudden in my kitchen. Turns out he was in the truck (on the phone?) for about 20 min then walked through my door and back into my house without knocking - to get a check. I think he should have knocked, but maybe that is just me. I asked for the owner to call me and was told, "If you had a problem with your car, do you think Mike Shad would call you?" (I may be a little off on the quote, but the sentiment was the same. I only used this company as they came recommended by someone that someone went to church with. I should have done more research. Also, the sales person, (probably in every company) isn't who you end up with. I wish I had thought to meet the technicians and not just the sales people--but that is a rule for all these types of things that I often forget.
Description of Work: I replaced 2 complete systems. I didn't haggle the price. I instead made it clear I wanted quality. They came out and seemed very nice and professional. I was very happy at first.

Response from Bowman Heating & Air Conditioning
To whom it may concern This is a rebuttal to the recent report filed with Angie’s List by Member. We understand and appreciate the feelings of Member, however as you will read her frustrations are related to existing items non-related to the service contracted for or provided by our company. Member contacted our office and set an appointment for 03-23-11 when our project manager would visit her home and provide an estimate for the replacement of her existing air handlers and condensers. Please note that we had never visited the Member's home prior to this date nor were we asked to diagnose or repair any part of her HVAC system. During our customer interview questions are asked to determine the wishes of the customer, measurements are taken, electrical requirements are examined, and professional recommendations are made. Member expressed that she would like the existing air handlers and condensers replaced with new more energy efficient Trane equipment. Member did express interest in UV protection for both of the systems. At that time Member was provided with a written proposal the replacement of both of the air handlers and condensing units, Member chose the more economical route to have her existing line set flushed rather than replaced, new insulated AHU stands, new thermostats, and code required items for these changes. This job totaled $9835.24 not $12000.00 and was not for complete systems as there were many items that remained in place, such as line sets, duct systems and grills, zone control board and dampers, and high and low voltage wiring. During our customer interview and when we went over the written proposal Member was preoccupied with problems from movers and painters relating to her daughters move to another state. On 04-12-11 our office received a deposit for the change out of the above mentioned equipment and this project was scheduled for 04-19-2011. On the morning of 04-19-2011 our project manager and crews arrived to preform the work specified in the proposal. As required by company policy our project manager reviewed the work to be completed with the customer and the crews. Once the project was underway the project manager excused himself and went on with his daily list of tasks. The project manager did visit the job site two additional times during that day. That evening as the project was completed Member was provided instruction on the operation of the new equipment, filter locations, thermostat operation, final invoicing, and warranty information. The systems and thermostats were checked in all modes, the crews cleaned their workspace, packed up and disembarked. On 04-22-11 our office was called by the Member's home with concern of water on the garage floor. We responded immediately and repaired a small leak in the condensate drain at no charge. Leak issue resolved. On 05-08-22 our office received a call from the Member's home that the downstairs unit was not cooling. We responded that day and found a refrigerant leak in the existing copper line set under the garage floor. The diagnosis was preformed at no charge to the customer. The Members were provided with a quote to replace the existing copper line set. Unlike Member's account of the situation, she was nice but very upset and insisted on speaking with the owner of the company. Like most companies the owner or CEO has management teams or staff in place to handle the operation of the company, however in this case the owner was available and did respond to Member. The copper line set was existing, not proposed for replacement, nor charge for during the change out of her other items, yet, as a gesture of good faith, the owner did offer Member a substantial discount of 40% on the removal and replacement of the copper Line set under her slab as well as a new drier, system vacuum, a full charge of R-410a refrigerant, and all labor. On 05-20-11 at Member request the line set was replaced. (the Members family had engagements during the two date resulting in the date gap) On 09-09-11 our office was contacted by the Member's home stating that the downstairs unit was again not cooling properly. We responded immediately and found that there was a factory leak from a rub inside the condenser. The system was repaired, vacuumed, and charged with refrigerant. This was a factory defect and was covered under warranty. There was no charge to the customer. On 10-27-11 a preventive maintenance was preformed on both upstairs and downstairs systems. Both systems were checked in all modes and were operating within factory specifications. The customer was charged $90.00 for the maintenance. This charge has been refunded as the technician was unaware at the time of the call that our project manager had offered Member her first six month PM free. Therefore there was no charge to the customer. On 11-01-11 our office received a no heat call for the upstairs unit at the Member's home. We responded within the hour. During our diagnosis our technician, 6 years with our company and 23 years in the industry, found that the zone control board had failed. A zone system is a specialized ducting system with motorized dampers within the duct system that are controlled by a master control board. Our tech removed the upstairs system from the zone control board and the system operated correctly, in fact the system is currently bypassing the zone control board and the system is working properly. The duct zones can not be operated independently with zones rather they function as one complete system as the zone board is bad and needs to be replaced. This is an existing part of the duct system and not included in the scope of work that we were contracted to complete nor was it covered under warranty. Please keep in mind that each of use at some time in our lives have used an electronic device, TV’s, radios, even modern blow dryers with control boards, and it worked perfectly one day while on the next use it was gone. During our visit the tech did go in and out of the Member's home many times without disturbing the family, keeping to his work. He did go out to his service van and placed a call, being professional and checking resources, while filling out the invoice for the diagnosis of this day. This may have taken a few moments and when he returned into the home to present the invoice Member became upset. Again we can understand her frustration, but everyone knows there is an invoice to follow work and the tech did not excuse himself therefore she should of expected one more visit from the tech. We understand Member's frustrations however we have responded to her each and every call and on the calls that were warranty items there was no charge to her. No company can be held liable for existing parts or materials or should be expected to warranty such items. It has been our goal to provide the Members family with quality professional service, equipment, and materials and we will do anything within reason to reach that goal and the ultimate satisfaction of all of our valued customers. Sincerely, Bowman Heating and Air Conditioning

Bowman A/C is a very professional company. They do exactly what they promise. All of the people associated with the company are polite and knowledgeable. When installing the unit, they arrived on time and cleaned up everything before they left.
Description of Work: The A/C unit in our condo needed to be replaced. Bobby came out, measured the unit space, and ordered a unit made to meet our specific needs. I have used Bowman before. They always give competitive quotes.....usually lower.....but they do a superior job to A/C contractors that I have used in the past. I will always call them if I need future A/C assistance. I will also always recommend them to my friends. They are honest and I have complete trust in their work.
