Big Guys Moving

I called these guys about 10 days in advance; so I was fortunate enough to get them on the day and time I wanted. That was worth any perceived premium on my part... $563 is more than I wanted to spend but push come to shove, well worth it. David the owner is timely in response, and his staff on the phone are also quite nice. I got a kick out of the 3 man crew that came by to move me, they were all quite nice and did their best. One strong service moment came when they decided to wrap my King mattress to protect it from dirt; that was much appreciated. This is the second time I've used Big Guys and I would recommend their services anyday. They are honest, hard working and do their best to address any concerns a customer may have. such a disappointment, this was the second time using them and the price went up for a very small move. I was told I received a discount as a repeat customer but I honestly have no faith or trust in this company I do not feel I was treated as a valued customer

Eric called and said they were running ahead of schedule, did they want us to come early. This was a nice surprise and we agreed. The two were very quick, listened to our directions and were very polite young men. One door stopper was lost, but it was small and not in a box. Replacement value 15.00 so we did not make a big deal, only called and asked them to look in the truck. They finished the job very quickly and paid attention to detail. They were considerated about walking on the new carpeting, etc.. Since they finished quickly, but had a two hour minimum (standard) they offered several times to move furnitue to where we would like it.

Had furniture moved from a 3rd floor apartment. My TV got chipped and before moving, the workers did not wrap the TV to protect the TV. Had 2 wall pictures moved, nothing big, and for some reason, they got scratched also. If i knew a picture could get scratched from a move, i would have just carried them in my car myself. Last but not least, some personal merchandise of mine was taken from my possession without my permission. I did not realized this was missing until after they left. Make sure you do your homework. Going with the cheapest deal isn't always the best deal. I'm out $200 with a chipped TV and 2 scratched pictures. Overall i'm not pleased as i could have possibly spent few more $$ for quality work.

I will break this hellacious experience into categories so I can show which parts of this process failed -and give a total picture. The coupon: On angies list there used to be a coupon that gave 50% off the total cost of a package deal: which included packing, moving, and cleaning. This was one of the reasons I chose this company: that plus the total time it would take to move my house was less than the other two moving companies I had received estimates from. Estimate: Came over for an estimate aprx 2 weeks prior to having service. Showed up late - but called first, which is always wonderful. Estimate was for packing of entire house, moving, cleaning, and delivering my stuff to a storage place. Individuals that came to give estimate were two woman, one who I came to find out was the sister of the owner, one in training. Very polite and thorough. Gave estimate as to how big my storage unit should be as well - which was helpful due to me having no idea what size would work for all my stuff. Packing: When they were thirty minutes late, I called the owner. Apparently there was no record of my move - even though I had been given a schedule of when the packers, movers, and cleaners were going to come, and specified the exact date. The owner said they were going to take care of me. I called back 2.5 hours later - he was still working on it. 3.5 hours later "packers are on their way". Since I am on an extremely tight schedule, I went out - bought boxes - and had 55% of the job done and packed prior to them showing up. The only room that was totally left was the kitchen, and some clothing items since they TOLD ME they would provide wardrobe boxes. When the packers showed up - I was informed that one was the brother of the owner, the other the mother. They did the best they could with packing, but I think they were in over their head - as items throughout the house were left unpacked at the completion of service. Again I had already packed numerous boxes, and everything had been staged in the hours waiting for them to show up. They were surprised to hear I was told they would supply wardrobe boxes. Moving: When the movers came- they start to immediately move. It was a normal moving process, nothing to report that stood out good or bad EXCEPT the owner told me that he was going to have to call in the movers as no one was available. I came to find out that these individuals who were sent to my house were "sitting at the office" with nothing to do. After helping the packers pack all my stuff, I then helped the movers move the stuff from my house into the moving van. I was an active participant in this process - and although I did not handle any "heavy stuff" I had a dolly, and helped load/unload to quicken the process. Getting the stuff into the storage unit: The initial estimate the people had given me was unavailable at my storage unit - so I went one size up. THANK goodness I did, as we barely had enough room. The movers told me we were going to unload everything out of the van, and get the big stuff in the unit first. That seemed fine - as by this time I was exhausted beyond belief and just wanted this day to get over. Well, it started to pour down rain. We then frantically got all the 'destroyable' stuff inside, and attempted to dry all the items prior to stacking/packing them into the unit. Again I actively helped throughout this process, not looking over the shoulder help - actually carrying things and being told were to place things, etc. Cleaning: After finally coming home, I was exhausted, and just assumed my house was up to normal standards. I also was dealing with the coupon issue [will discuss at the end] so I did not inspect. My mistake, I had to hire another set of cleaners - as my renters were moving in the next two days. The worst part was the fridge. I recently bought a stainless steel fridge - worth over 1500 dollars, and the cleaners apparently destroyed the front by using some scrubbing brush [unneeded] and scratching up the surface. My property manager is now working to get that sorted out. THE COUPON: Even though they were 4 hours late, did not bring the proper equipment, did a sub par cleaning job, and scratched my fridge I would have been okay and they would have gotten a much better review. [Granted, if they had showed up on time my stuff would not have been downpoured on]. When I produced the coupon upon completion of service the mover had to call the owner who said he would NOT ACCEPT IT. The owner - who is the most unproffessional man I have ever spoken to over the phone - accused me of forging it. Clearly it was from angieslist [it had the website address on the bottom of the page]. The kicker is that I did the majority of the packing, and was an active participant in the moving process. At the end of the day - over the phone, because the owner never appeared or apoligized for the h*** that was my day - I just paid what they told me to pay. I have already contacted Angies List regarding this "coupon" issue, but want to warn anyone looking for a moving company: steer well away from this company.

They did an excellent job. They were punctual and good communicators.

See above, these guys make it easy to purchase something large for your home and then easily get it there. If you buy something large from a store & the store wants more than $100 to deliver it (next week) or doesn't deliver at all, call these guys. Excellent experience, we will recommend them and use rhem again.

I have to divide the move into 2 categories - the gentlemen that performed the move itself and the ownership. The men who performed the move were extremely courteous and did the best job that they could based on the circumstances of how heavy the refrigerator was and the tight spaces getting it in and out. Unfortunately when they tried to hook up the dishwasher in the new house it did not work. I was told by the sales staff that they had someone on staff who had years of experience hooking up appliances. This was the only reason I hired Big Guy. Unfortunately he was out sick during my move. It took 2 days for this person to arrive and he was able to install it and it worked. The reason the move received a D - the owner. He had estimated the move to take 2 hours and it ended up taking about 5. I overheard him on the phone literally screaming at the movers that they had to finish and get to another job. Once we discovered the dishwasher was not working, which the movers tried to fix, I called him. He went on to tell me that no one (the salesperson) should have ever booked a job to move and setup appliances. He went over and over how from this point on they would never move appliances again. He was the most unprofessional person I have every dealt with. From that point I knew that this would not get resolved so I booked an appliance repairman to come out to fix it. The next day the salesperson from Big Guy called and was able to send out on the following day the staff member who hooked up dishwasher and it worked. On a side note - the owner increased the price of the move since it took longer, understandable, but not my fault that it was estimated incorrectly. The gentleman who came out to hook up the dishwasher mentioned he was not getting paid for the work from Big Guy since it was job that lost money. Of course I gave him a large tip for his work. The bottom line is the owner was completely unprofessional and the movers tried to go above and beyond to get the job done right.

We were very pleased with the service from Big Guys Moving. They handled all of our items carefully, took the time to place the items where we requested and did a nice job closing up everything. They went as far as folding up all of the moving blankets and putting the dolly back in the truck. We appreciate their attention to detail and for doing their jobs so professionally. Thank you!
