I really don't know yet. Living in the state of Florida and having a fireplace is not sensible as I hardly use it but I don't want dead birds and water damage. I'm hoping that I just get this done and have no future problems. Also I rated overall C because I don't know the outcome and the price C because for the amount of stainless steel I'm purchasing it seems to be high.
Description of Work: I scheduled a chimney sweep due to my cap being off since Hurricane Irma for December 22, 2017 and Eric came a few minutes early. He was very nice and looked in my fireplace and pulled out 2 dead birds that flew inside. He climbed his ladder to the top of the chimney and noticed rust and components that needed replacing: cover, spark arrestor, and rain cap. He put the old cover up on the chimney and covered it with a garbage bag and duck taped it. Than he gave me a written estimate for the parts that needed replacing, $1200.00, which was for stainless steel. Galvanized steel would have been $200.00 cheaper but eventually would rust like the old one and get moisture into the fireplace. Eric has to pull permits to do the installing of the items needing replacing and than after it is done it will be inspected by the county. I gave 50% down and than when complete the remainder of the balance I wasn't expecting to pay this much and Eric told me I didn't need a chimney sweep but he did tell me I can wait and make up my mind about the job that the estimate was good for a year.

The scheduling over the phone was extremely easy and, despite it being the company's busiest time of year, they were able to fit us in within four days. The company was very communicative and even called us early on the day of scheduled service to let us know the crew could come early, if it was convenient for us. The cleaning and inspection was quick, efficient, and thorough. Despite decades of build up (and an apparent animal nest!) inside, the two-man crew quickly addressed all issues. Having seen a few minor issues with the construction of the chimney, the crew offered a variety of solutions and explained the costs and benefits of each. Although they made their future services available, they did not employ any "scare tactics" or pressure when trying to get future business. The crew was good-natured, amiable, and apparently knowledgeable. They also worked hard to ensure that the space around the fireplace remained clean during their work and nicely cleaned up after themselves.
Description of Work: We purchased an old home (1920s) that had clearly not had the chimney cleaned for decades (at least). Furthermore, a previous owner had placed a jerry-rigged cap of questionable quality over the chimney.

I called this company because they were listed on the website in Riverside, which is near my home. Turns out they were from Macclenny and I noticed too late that they were one of several names operating under the same phone number. One time Mr. Ash-Away said he had been in business 15 years, another time he said ten years. "Don't use the fireplace" could have been done without paying him $125. Stay away.
Description of Work: I have been using this fireplace since 1987 with no problems. but started a fire on Thanksgiving and the house filled with smoke. We put out the fire with water. Ash-Away and his teenage son arrived on the job about dark, looked at my house and said, "I hate metal roofs." Climbed on the roof and said everything was fine. His only recommendation (written on his invoice) was "don't use the fireplace." Told me some more stuff about smoke that defied the laws of physics, and wrote me a bill for $125. I paid him and he left.

A couple of days later, it occured to me that the cap and pan had to be painted a reddish brown color to conform with the architectural requirements in our community. I called 4 times (got only a voice message) and emailed the business once -- none of these communications has been answered. I've since done a little homework, only to discover that Ash Away has 3 BBB complaints filed against the business in the last year -- all similar to my situation. I, too, have no filed a BBB complaint. This is no way to run a business. I have no confidence Ash Away will perform the services promised in our contract.
Description of Work: Proprietor came to our home, reviewed the condition of our chimney and recommended we replace the cap and pan at the top. He said he would order the necessary parts and return to complete the installation. I gave him a check for $350 covering the inspection ($50) and a deposit ($300). Balance due was $325.

I made an appointment to have my chimney swept. I told them that I was thinking about converting it into a gas fireplace and would be interested in knowing how much it would cost to seal it off. The woman I spoke to said they could give an estimate when he came out to clean it. The man arrived, looked at the bricks, said they were interesting because he had never seen any bricks with the name that was on them and wanted to do some research on them first. He said he would give me an estimate on the conversion and after he had researched the bricks he would come back and clean the fireplace. He told me that it will cost me $50.00 today for the visit, but it would go towards the cost of the cleaning or the conversion when he came back to do that work. Never got back with me and I have been calling them for weeks and no one answers.

Great service. I had a unusually high electric bill. Clay Electric did an energy audit and told me the flue to my fireplace was broke. Ash-away told me it was just off the track and fixed it.. He checked my chimney and told me it was unsafe to use without cleaning it first. I plan to have him back out this fall to clean it before having any fires. I was impressed with his honesty and overall service. I will definitely use them again.

I had used the company before and liked them...so when it came time to have my chimney cleaned this year I went on their website and filled out the appointment form. When I did not hear back after a week I called and left a voicemail. Then I emailed. Then I left two more voicemails all of this over a couple of weeks. Now a month later I have still not heard a word from the company. I am a very unhappy customer. (former customer at this point)

It went well, my fireplace got all checked to make sure I could safely use it.
Description of Work: I moved into a new (used) house built in 1970, it had been vacant for 1.5 yrs prior to my occupancy. I had Ash- Away come and check out my chimney to assure its safe use. They did a thorough inspection and found no troubles. I felt safe to use my chimney after their inspection and had no issues the rest of the "fireplace use" season.

We asked them to come out and clean our chimney since our house was a foreclosure and empty for years before we bought it. A man came out, stuck his flashlight up the chimney, declared it fine, and charged us $100!!!! My husband called the company and they said it would be cheaper if we could bring our chimney to them! We have had a lot of people out, electricians, plumbers, etc., and they don't charge us when there is nothing to be done.

We had just bought our house last May and were ready to enjoy the fireplace. We had never had a fireplace before and wanted to be certain of it's safety before lighting our first log. We contacted this company. They setup an appointment on a Saturday at our request. They were right on time for the appointment. They were very knowledgeable and clean. They let us know that our fireplace is safe to use, but by spring we would need $475 in work done because of a small leak with the roof cap.

They came by for an initial inspection in June and informed me of what the service would cost, but they told me that we would have to wait until the birds that were currently nesting in the chimney had left. The cost for that visit was $50. Three months later, after the birds were gone, we contacted them again and set up an appointment. They came in, cleaned out the chimney and installed the cap in less than an hour. Very efficient and professional. At my request they also recommended a service provider who could inspect the propane tank and gas line to the fireplace. The cost for the second visit was $340.

I needed my chimney checked out after I filled the house with smoke with the last attempt to build a fire in the fireplace. He came on time, was friendly to me and my kids, and gave me an honest inspection of my fireplace, chimney, and damper. I ended up not needing a sweep. So, great service and very informative about the current state of the parts involved and suggestions for future work and improvements to safety. It was a great visit.

I had a problem with my flue not closing at all. I expected that I would have to replace it for the phone estimate price of $350 - $400.Mike the owner arrived on time and checked out my fireplace. He was able to fix the flue without the expense of replacing it. And he also replaced the spark screen that was all rusted with one that I had ordered. He was very professional from the minute he walked in the door and cleaned up afterwards. I would definitely use this company the next time because I feel they are honest and don't try to take you for every dollar. He also recommended cleaning my fireplace/chimney in a few years, but there was no rush. He could have told me anything since I had no idea when I would need my chimney cleaned. And my dog liked him too !!

Cleaning was straight forward and well done. Workers were careful to keep the surrounding area covered while fireplace was cleaned out. Went on roof to have them explain the leak in the cap and was very informative, very knowledgeable about their work. I did, however, have to call/email on more than one occasion to get the status on the order for the replacement parts. It took about a month to finally get the parts in and make an appointment to install. Workers were very courteous and did an excellent job on the install.
Description of Work: 10/09- Had them perform a cleaning and inspection of the fireplace and chimney after just having purchased the house. Inspection revealed chimney cap had a leak and there were visible water streaks on the back wall of the fireplace prior to cleaning. Recommended replacing chimney cap and all related parts. Took measurements and had to custom make the replacement. Approximate time for order to come in was a couple of weeks.

Had my new home's chimney inspected - was very dirty and needed some repairs. They quoted me a reasonable price for cleaning/repairs and I rescheduled them to come out another day. Unfortunately, there were serious cracks that were later revealed when they were attempting to make the repairs and they found that I needed an entire flue replaced. I didn't wind up using them to do this since chimneys aren't all that necessary in Florida, but if I have extra cash to spare at some point, I will have this company perform the required work. I felt that this company was knowledgeable and fairly priced.

After installing a new roof three years ago, and after repeated complaints over the persistent leaks around my chimney flashing, the roofing company determined to get rid of me by claiming that the leaks were in the chimney, not the flashing. I chose to verify their claim by having a chimney repair company evaluate the leaks and I found Ash Away on Angie's List. The gentleman from Ash Away was prompt when he arrived to perform the inspection and, after checking both chimneys concluded that, although there could be leaks in the chimneys themselves, that the problem appeared to be the shoddy flashing installation. Ash Away charges $75 for the inspection which is refundable if they perform repairs over $400, yet he was honest about the potential problems and likely cause which could have sent me on my merry way back to the roofers. Instead, due to the mold that was forming as well as the worsening damage to the interior of my home, I asked whether he could perform the repairs himself and he said that he could. The next week he returned, on a Sunday nonetheless, and patched the flashing around both chimneys, replaced a part on one of the chimneys, and performed an interior inspection on each. He has asked that, should the leaks return, to contact him and he would return immediately to investigate further. And, he asked that I do not perform the repairs to my walls and ceilings yet, just so that he could make sure that the damage would not recur. It's been two weeks and, to the best of my ability to detect....no leaks! And, as a single woman, I always take great care to evaluate anyone that I allow into my home yet I never felt uncomfortable. And, we had a great conversation about politics, too!I would absolutely recommend Ash Away to my friends and neighbors. The roofing company, well, I'm still not done with them yet.
Description of Work: Chimney repairs... Repaired the shoddy flashing job performed by my roofer, repacked the crown in one chimney, and sealed the brick on both chimneys.
