Armstrong Fence

I called for an estimate and Harold came out on the day/time he said he would. That was the only thing that went as planned with this business. The estimate was submitted, and I accepted, the date for the install was set for the 28th of September. I planned a vacation to Mexico AROUND the install to ensure I was back in time and that I would not have to take any additional days off from work. I called prior to leaving for Mexico and was told they could not guarantee the work would start on time as "fencing emergencies" can always arise. Fencing emergencies? I had already paid a deposit of 1360 dollars for my fence installation so I am guessing the "emergencies" were jobs they could get in and out of fast to make a dollar. I Was told to call back after I returned from my trip. I called back as requested and was told the crew would not be out the morning of the 28th but would DEFINITELY be out in the afternoon to start the job and they would finish the following day. The 28th came and went like a distant memory with neither hide nor hair of Armstrong Fence. Around 4 pm I called the company and asked if I would be seeing the crew today and was told, "Apparently not". The "crew" arrived on the morning of the 29th and then the fun really began. I cannot remember the name of the installers but the man that was "in charge" arrived either drunk or high or both. He could barely stand up and was obviously under the influence of something. After going over the job with him I went inside my house. Luckily, I kept an eye on the two-man crew because I had to tell him two separate times that he was about to remove the wrong fence! During the course of their visit, the inebriated installer repeatedly came to the door asking for various items. I was asked for a popsicle because he had a toothache and when I said I did not have one he questioned me, "What, you don't have no kids” Yes, I have children, but one is in the Air Force and one is in college for Nursing, both are beyond popsicle age. I was also asked for a pair of my shorts, so the installer could go in my pool, I obviously declined. I did tell the two men that my outside refrigerator had water in it and they could help themselves to it. Apparently, they took that as an open invitation to drink my two liter of Root Beer and partake in a couple beers as well, real classy fellas. The end of the day came and there was yet another knock at my door, this time the installer was squatting down like an Afghanistan detainee obviously in an effort to not completely fall over and this is when I was told the job would not be completed today, in fact he was "in trouble" for not being able to complete the work on time. Truth be told, he wasn't anywhere close to being done at this point. As the crew prepared to leave I asked, "When will I know if you are coming back tomorrow" and was told, "When 0930 comes and I am not here". The crew left at least 6 piles of fencing debris scattered about my property as well as all their tools asking me to "Keep an eye on them". Following day came and went and no sign of Armstrong Fence. I was told someone would be out Monday. The Assistant Superintendent came out Monday and finished the job, 5 days after the initial completion date. I was told the original installer had been, "taken off the truck" and that he installed my double gate frame upside down. At no point did anyone attempt to collect any money from me, then the phones calls started. Not too long after the completion of the fence, I went on a military deployment. Harold began calling and leaving messages stating, "Call me" and that was it. My wife had no idea who Harold was as I was the one dealing with the company from start to finish. Had Harold simply stated the reason for his call and not left orders to "call him", my wife would have gladly remitted the payment. All in all, I would say this was the absolute worst experience I have had with any company I have dealt with, and I have had some real winners. Do yourself a favor, pass on Armstrong Fence. Even after complaining to the Assistant Superintendent, I have yet to be contacted with anything resembling an apology. I would not recommend this company to my absolute worst enemy, if I could give it negative stars I would. Stay away from Armstrong Fence Company, I would rather not have a fence at all than hire this company again.

It looked like they did a decent job, but by looking closer and behind hedges, there were HUGE gaps between the bottom of the fence and the ground. The gaps were easily big enough for a very large man to fit under and any size animal. The worst part was that they would never come back to fill those gaps with wire or chain link. They got their money and ran. Very POOR customer service. I would never use them or recommend them. We have had to hire a totally different company to fix their mistakes.

The salesman called and scheduled an appointment and was on time on arrival. He walked my back yard and found out exactly want I wanted and gave me a good price for the fence. When the installers showed up they were very nice and treated me with respect. They also cleaned up after themselves. When everything was done James the foreman walked the job with me to make sure I was happy with the fence.

They did not line up our doors correctly, did not make the fence straight, and did not originally cut the boards to fit into the fence. They were going to leave two whole panels of my fence unattached and broken and I told them I would not sign off on their final papers until they were fixed. They did not start working on my fence until 10am and the workmanship was just overall poor. I asked for a discount for the poor workmanship and the salesman said he could not do that.

Communication was horrible. I was told 4 weeks for replacement and it ended up being 8 weeks but required a lot of follow up calls to ensure they were actually going to do the job. The start date was never communicated to coordinate and the workers that showed up were unaware of work that needed to be completed. Problem with wood supplier and quality was lacking but the wood was used anyway. Now we are at the 10 month life of the fence and super disappointed. There is splitting, curling and pulling away from the posts. This whole process has been a fight to get any call backs. Finally, an Armstrong investigator was sent out, pictures were taken, and yesterday we were informed the owner has said that this is expected and will not be fixing any of the issues - DO NOT USE if you are looking to invest in a fence that will last you any amount of time.

Professionalism started with the sales rep/estimator. We had damage after Hurricane Matthew and Armstrong came out immediately after our call. We were told it would probably be 2-3 weeks before we could get installed but 10 days later they were here and spent the day completing the installation. We are pleased with the quality nod construction. The install team was professional and knew their jobs. This was an impressive process. There were no pre-constructed panels. It was built piece by piece and looks good. I will be referring them to anyone that needs fencing.

Crystal (may not spell correctly), and I made an appointment for her to do an estimate for me. Before the scheduled time, I called her cell phone and left a voice mail ask her to let me know if she needs to change the schedule. On scheduled time, she did not show up. Numerous calls to her cell phone and to the office did not get any answer. The company seems disorganized as well. They could not find where the lady is and they could not reach her by phone or email. Don't waste you time with this company as I have had.

They cleaned up after they where thru and the crew chief explained what they did in detail with a walk thru of the fenced area. This crew was efficient and focused and very professional. I would hire this company again.

From the initial estimate to the final product these folks are top notch! Over a year later and our fence STILL looks awesome. They showed up exactly on time, removed the old fence, installed the new, cleaned up, and left us with a superior product of craftsmanship. To look across a 50' swath of fence and see EVERY board perfectly level and spaced right is really a treat. I HIGHLY recommend these folks! You can be assured we WILL be using them again in the future.

My wife and I couldn't be happier with our new fence! Armstrongs fence gave us a lower bid than the competitors, showed up on time, worked hard, got 100 yards of 6' fence done in 2.5 days. Their workers were pros. I highly recommend this company for your new fence.

First, I would like to say that Armstrong is lucky to have several good people working for them. The estimator and the actual fence installation workers did their job. Their price was competitive with other estimates, and the work done was ok. While the fence installers left my yard a bit of a mess, broke most of my plantings, and did not return dirt to a hole where they had removed a post, they otherwise did a fine job. However, after putting down a deposit with the estimator, the check was cashed immediately and for over a week, no one called to inform me about when the work was scheduled to take place. I finally called the office, was told someone would get right back to me, and no one ever called back (turned out this was standard for the duration of the job). Nevertheless, fence installation was scheduled in a timely manner, as was dig safe. However, apparently the installation crew had called 'dig unsafe' because despite the markings from ATand T, they snapped the underground cable for our phone and internet, and proceeded to bury it under the newly installed post. As of this writing (9 days after this happened), I still have no phone or internet service - which has been more than an inconvenience, since we do contract web work from home. We have lost hundreds of dollars in work this past week, and have been majorly inconvenienced. I am still waiting on ATand T to come and have to dig up my whole backyard to lay cable. ATand T suggested that it should be Armstrong's responsibility to repair the massive damage that will be done to my backyard. Armstrong has expressed no interest in caring one bit about what happens. Armstrong's response: at first, they did not bother to call ATand T to report the problem until a day later. They never called to apologize (I know the fence installer did not mean to do this, but still...). I called their office multiple times, no one ever returned my calls or bothered to do anything to help remedy the problem (besides theoretically calling ATand T once - don't know if they actually did this) . I also had a conversation in which someone in the office promised to come out and dig himself to find the cable, and said he would call me back - he never did either of these things. Their customer service is truly, truly lacking. At first, an Armstrong representative claimed that ATand T had marked in the wrong place, but when I informed him that I have photos to verify that this is not the case, he just did not seem to care, and lost interest. I think mostly because the contract for fence work claims that they are not responsible for damages due to anything they do. They mean that: they will not care if they damage anything. Bottom line, read your contract carefully, because if something goes wrong, they will not care, and will not be responsible, and will do almost nothing to help you. A tip for Armstrong: work on your customer service and follow through.

Well, there are fences and then there are fences. The fence is beautiful and adds to the look of the front of our house. They actually built our custom-made fence on-site. The gate has a metal brace. Everyone was professisonal and very nice. They brought in trucks and equipment and not one bit of our lawn was messed up. These people are great and we got them off Angie's List. Thanks Angie!!

They were on time and did a lovely job. It looks great.

Initially the person that I dealt with was not communicating well and saying that things could not be done the way requested. However the owner of the company understood immediately what needed to be done and made sure it was done right and on time. He was very professional and easy to deal with, plus he had the best prices too. The work was finished within the estimated time frame. Recommend greatly!

Armstrong Fence did what they said they would do in a timely manner. The workmanship was fine, I have no complaints about their job. However, my dogs were were able to bend the aluminum fence bars which isn't the fault of Armstrong fence but rather the fencing.

We met with company sales rep. Explained the job that needed to be done. (replace privacy fence enclosing backyard) Work was started by 2 men approx two weeks later. Job was not completed on time. It took approx. 5 days longer than proposed. The work was subcontracted out to a private individual. It was our understanding that Armstrong did the work themselves not by subcontract. The grade of wood we requested and discussed was not used and replaced with a lower grade. The post are not cut the same heights. The slats are leaning in one area of the fence instead of straight up. Gaps in the fence that were created by poor workmanship were capped with extra slats. When digging holes for post, the installer hit the plumbing and electrical for our sprinkler system in 3 different areas. Then, went ahead and poured concrete for post encasing the plumbing!! Did not bother to let us know. (Per the contract they are not responsible for the sprinkler system damage.) One time is an accident, but breaking it in 3 places is unacceptable and LOUSY work. The latches for the gates were put on the wrong side. Upon inspection after the work was done. All of the above was shown and discussed with the Armstrong rep. He did not offer any resolution or apologize for the damage to the sprinkler system. ("they are not responsible for sprinkler system!!!") After the third phone call to try and reach some type of resolution, the rep said he would discuss the problems with the owner of the company. It is now May and I still have not heard from him. I guess once they got their money, who cares about customer service.
