This review is for work performed approximately 3/17. I wrote the review and did not submit it properly. My advice is instead of replacing/upgrading your home windows just move. I believe American Window does not have the capability/expertise/employees to handle large projects such as mine. They are probably ok to use if you need 1-2 windows or a door that’s not too complicated. Project cost was $30K+ and was a complete nightmare from the start. The salesman lost the $10k deposit check which should have been a sign to find someone else. The 3-4 day project took several months due order mistakes, improper measuring, poor installation and manufacturing defects which required ordering new windows. To this day 1 door is still not right and it irritates me every time I look at it. My mistake for paying in full before things were corrected. I contacted the owner several times for resolution but received nothing but excuses. I usually research contractors in detail when planning a home improvement project but this time I failed. Don’t be me. I learned a great deal from this project and I hope my review helps others avoid a similar fate.

Response from American Window Products Inc
AWP has been in Jacksonville for 39 years now and have installed windows and doors in more than 35000 homes. Replacement only and we still have great ratings. We continue today doing more than 80 homes a month of all sizes including very large homes with over 50 windows. So I'm not responding to this review in typical manner because AWP did all we could and tried to do the right thing on this project as this job was not typical for any window company. We know the job didn't go as smooth as we would have liked and we are sorry for the situation the reviewer and AWP were put in. But there was nothing mention in the review that there were other construction companies working there and didn't mention the compensation that was received for the inconvenience or the very expensive impact door that was given for FREE (the one he is complaining about ) from AWP after the Manufacturer sent several replacements for small scratches that the customer would not except and then the customer worked on the door and made it worse, As far the amount of time involved the manufacturer PGT had a bad run of glass and it took a while for the PGT service team (not ours) to complete because all the window manufacturers were behind due to the 2017 boom in construction. FACT. Even though this was not AWP's fault AWP still compensated the reviewer for PGT glass problems even though it was out of our control and out of our pocket, so as far as we know one door had scratches and he agreed to keep it for free.(complaint) We were under the impression everything was completed as it's been 3 years ago and if not, contact us and we will take care of any issue you may have. Office 904-731-2247 Once again this was not a typical job or a typical response so I apologize if it seems harsh. This reviewer didn't tell the whole story behind the issues involved and complained about things that was excepted with compensation from 3 years ago.

we were very happy with the window replacement , fast and a great job,, Love the windows . The problem is with the lifetime waranty . after several years had a window or two broken , the service was fast and profesional. Now i amtold they WILL NOT replace my windows because the companty that made them went out of bussness. OK But i did NOT but the windows from that company , i bought my windows from American windows , so they should still cover them with another type window, all i got was run around and no show for an est. i was willing to pay for the difference , but not as a new instalation

Salesman showed up on time and was nice. However he was at my home to give me an estimate for replacement windows and he did not even have a window sample to show me. His vehicle had broken down the day before and he had a different vehicle. Regardless, if you are a window salesman, you bring windows to a new potential client! After giving me an estimate and showing me the window they would install in a catalog, he happened to have a more expensive window sample in his car to show me. After he showed me that sample, he said he would give me the more expensive window at the price of the other window he didn’t have with him. Two other things I did not care for: we would need to hire someone else to come out and take our plantation shutters down prior to window install and that company would need to come back out to put back up again. Secondly, they would use my existing window frame and put a new window in it. If I am paying so much for Windows, why would you re-use my existing window!?!? The company that I used took down and re-hung my plantation shutters at no charge and they did not use ANY portion of my existing window!!

Response from American Window Products Inc
We are very sorry we didn't meet your expectations on our estimate. We did have a van break down and had to get a rental car. Our vans carry between 12 and 16 sample windows and the rep just picked a few due too limited space and didn't want to damage the rental. Plantation shutters are very expensive and we feel they should be handled by a shutter professionals. Every window company handles installations differently, in your case the veneer (stucco) needed to be removed to do a proper waterproofing behind it, so sometimes we will leave a piece of the frame so we don't damage the original waterproofing barrier under the stucco to prevent future leaks. 37 years of doing windows has taught us a lot about what works and what doesn't. Bottom line if your happy so are we. Again we are sorry things didn't work out with us.

we have 6 windows and 1 sliding door ordered, the contract said delivered in 6-8 weeks, Jun 19 2017 was 8 weeks, when we reached out to ask what the status was they were not very helpful, said they would call back when they new the answer, 3 hours later we received a phone call informing us that July 10th they would be delivered to our home, we had to ASK them to apologize and then inquired about getting a discount since they did not hole up their end of the deal, and we got a response of "that is not how it works" and hung up. the crew that showed up to install the windows and door were very polite and cleaned up as they worked making sure to not make to much of a mess and got all items installed on 1 afternoon. the product seem to function well and looks good at a fare price but that fair price paid for horrible customer service and absolutely no communication from the company. at this moment in time I have withheld that last installment until they pass inspection and the job finished. I will not use this company again which sucks because now the rest of the house will have a different window and warranty...

We apologize if you feel you are not a valued customer, we appreciate and value all of our customers and try to keep everyone updated with the progress of their orders and meet our estimated installation dates. Our contract with you for $4920.00 states with an estimated delivery of 6-8 weeks, and unfortunately the delays we encountered were out of our control, the manufacturer of your product had delays due to mechanical issues, we have been in business for 36 years and although this is unusual it does happen and not to mention the rainy weather has caused delays as well with our installation scheduling. Our installers arrived at your home and installed your replacement windows and SGD as scheduled on Monday July 10, 2017, and as you stated our installers did a nice job for you and you are pleased with the looks, function and installation of your new windows and SGD. The final inspection was scheduled and passed on Tuesday July 11, 2017 with the Clay County Building Department. Again, we appreciate your business and will be happy to work with you on the remaining replacement windows in your home with the same quality of products and installation.

I am very pleased with the results. Everyone that I dealt with was very professional and made me feel that I was a valued customer. Never having a sliding door replaced I had lots of questions. Roger Austin (salesman) took the time to answer my questions making sure I understood. The installers, Chris and Brent, were on time, answered all my questions, completed the installation on time( 1/2 day), and made sure I was happy before they left. My first full month's electric bill after the door was installed was 10% less. Guess who I will be calling when it's time to replace the windows?

Ultimately went with American due to the customer service we experienced from our initial call to sales. The sale rep came out, showed us various windows, gave very thorough explanations of the each window option. Once our windows came in, it took several schedulings to actually get them installed but that was due to weather (completely beyond their control). The install techs were very prompt, polite and just all around great folks who explained what they were going to do step by step and did an awesome job of cleaning up after themselves. We will definitely be using them again and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone.

The provider does not offer the service for the manufacturer which I was requesting, however they did respond very quickly to let me know. I would definitely consider using their service in the future.

We ordered 12 energy efficiency vinyl replacement windows manufactured by Eastern Architectural. The company representative took the time to explain our choices and options among several manufacturers. He measured the windows and wrote a detailed estimate. When we agreed to the job, he measured a second time to double check his work. The manufacturing took about 10 weeks. Jason and Steve were the installation team. Their care and concern for doing a high quality job really showed in the work. They took the time to explain what they were doing and why. They were as careful in removing the old windows as they were when installing the new one's. The results made us very happy. I highly recommend American Window Products.

The company that put the glass doors in is on Angie's List and I think it was American Window Products Incorporated. They were terrific. They were great and I am happy with them. It actually worked and it was kind of a nice change. That was my first time using them but I did a lot of research and so they were the ones that I actually went and talked to them. I looked on Angie's List first to get the name which I would go for because I feel because of the ratings and so forth. When I went to visit their showroom I actually got to talk to the owner and he just gave me what my options were and then he came out and they did all of the measuring. They actually had them made according to the measurements because every house is like an 18th of an inch different. They had them made and then came out and put them in, in one day. They came back and they called back to make sure everything was okay. When caulking dries sometimes it shrinks and there was one area that there was shrinkage and so they came out immediately that day and filled it in. I was very happy with them. When we win the lottery we can replace all the other windows. To be honest I haven't had any experience but in looking where I actually saw a couple of other showrooms and I would say they were in the middle of the road for the price. I felt it was a good price. There were many many that were a lot more expensive. It fit our budget and that is always good for sure. The quality was definitely an 'A'. There is a huge warranty on these and they will come back anytime if anything goes wrong no matter how small they are. The responsiveness is absolutely an 'A'. They were great about calling ahead and calling during the day to checkup on the guys that were working here and it was good. I would absolutely grade an 'A' for punctuality. The professionalism was 100 percent. It was really nice being able to talk to the owner. They own the company for 30 years or whatever but he was a real down to earth guy. He wasn't trying to sell to me he was trying to do what was best for my needs. He gave me a ton of options and that was helpful for me when you are not in the business and if you don't know. You can do all the research but it is always good to talk to a person who is the expert. So that was good, a good experience. I absolutely will use this provider again in the future and have recommended to other friends.
Description of Work: I had sliding glass doors put in sometime maybe in December. The cost for the 2 sliding glass doors that had the good Angie's rating were for 3400 dollars roughly I think. They removed the original sliding glass doors and disposed of those and then they installed 2 brand new sliding glass doors that were much better upgraded, one was of off the dining room and one was off of the living room.

The crew was for the most part professional with the exception of leaving cigarette butts in my driveway and some small pieces of debris in the front yard. When installing one of the windows, a small piece of stucco was damaged. I was assured that it would be repaired which it was. The only problem is the stucco repair is very sloppy and requires painting which I no longer have. The cuts around the sliding glass door need to be smoothed and again painted which I no longer have. These discrepancies are minor in relation to the size of the job. The crew was in an out in a total of two days which was great however the rush to get off the job site resulted in the aforementioned sloppiness.
Description of Work: Replaced all windows in my house. The windows are outstanding. they are such a great difference from my previous windows. They also put in a sliding glass door which is also a great difference from the previous one. Both the windows and door open smoothly and seem to block any unwanted breezes.

It has been several months since the work was performed. I waited this long before writing a review so that I could be as objective as possible. First, let me be clear that this review is of the company that installed the windows, not the windows themselves. Secondly, a bit of history. I have owned three houses in Jacksonville. I purchased replacement windows for each of them. On the first house, I used Window World, and had one of their subcontractors install them. On the second house, I also used Window World products, but installed them myself. On my current house, I used American Window Products (referred to as AWP for the rest of this review) and had their in-house crew complete the installation. For an installation to go smoothly, a great deal rides on the ability of the salesman to measure and apply his construction knowledge to the particulars of the home, and have the attention to detail necessary to properly order the windows from the manufacturer. The salesman from AWP did a generally good job of doing this. There are over thirty windows in the house, so it is a lot to put on paper. Upon installation, there were two windows that did not fit like they should have. One had to be coaxed into the opening by force, and the other had a larger than intended gap at the bottom, which the installer attempted to hide by placing a strip of vinyl across the gap (the only window that was given this treatment on the interior). The remaining windows were within the range of fitment that AWP likes to see, with approximately 1/4" gaps around the edges, and more or less the same at the bottom. Some of the widows had 3/8" gaps on the sides, which I think is a bit excessive, but I was told by the installation foreman that this is typical for this particular company, and I am sure that is the case. Overall, though I am happy with the way the windows fit, and once I finish trimming out the interior, they will all look great, and the window that fits tight appears to work perfectly, so no harm there. I guess the opening was square enough not to affect it. By comparison, the Window World windows (branded as Comfort World) in my last two houses fit the openings with 1/8" gaps or less. Those windows had a foam strip along the edges, and when the windows were placed into the openings, they held themselves in there and I just had to screw them in and trim them out. I credit this to the salesman who obviously had years of experience measuring and receiving feedback on the fit. That part is a salesman to salesman comparison, which can change at any time, and will vary based on what this one particular person thinks is an adequate or necessary gap or fitment. The problem with a wider gap is that is creates more work for me later on to properly seal it and trim it, and it would have been much more difficult to install them myself. However, a narrow gaps leaves less leeway for out-of-square window openings. I do not think one way is better than the other, just different. Let me make an observation on work crews at this point. I went with AWP this time thinking that their in-house installation crew might have a more vested interest in the installation and do a better job than a subcontractor. I know now that this is not necessarily the case. When I used Window World on my first house, their subcontracted crew did a decent job. The AWP crew did about the same in terms of quality. The part of their installation efforts that is visible is the caulk on the exterior. There is not quite enough space for me to trim this, so AWP installed a bead of caulk, which had to be rather large due to the particular way the house window openings were made, and the larger gap that AWP likes to specify. The caulking job could be better. It looks OK in most places, and I will admit it was difficult to apply under the circumstances, but from an in-house crew, I expected better. I will say that the caulk they used appears to be excellent for the application. Overall, though, the crew was about what you get with most construction crews anywhere you go. No one will build, install, paint, clean, or whatever as well as you would do with your own home. If you want a job done right....... . After I saw the caulk job on the exterior, I decided to finish out the interior myself. Some of the windows on the inside have a gap too large to caulk and have it look good, so I am trimming them in with quarter-round. AWP was very responsive to problems that arose after the initial installation. The building inspector noted that not enough screws were used in the installation and that tempered glass was inadvertently not specified to the manufacturer for those windows that required it. Both issues were fixed in a reasonable manner and time period. The installation crews were reasonably neat and treated the house well, though I am still picking up random caulk tube caps and vinyl trimmings from the yard. I think AWP did a solid job for the price, and I am happy with the result. My overall rating is a B, which I consider to be above average. An A would be tough to get in the construction/renovation field.

Arrived on time. Followed lead abatement procedures. Finished the outside trim beautifully. The installation took the exact 2 days as promised. All installation was inspected by city on the 3rd day. They found 3 vent holes that were covered on the windows and 1 screw missing from the front door. The installers were here within 30 minutes to correct these issues and the final was 100% passed. The gentlemen on the crew were pleasant, efficient, and hard workers.

Called American Window to replace 9 original windows in my home with something more energy efficient. I used these folks as I was very pleased with them when they replaced a large kitchen bay window the prior year. Sales person was personable and punctual. Measured all windows and placed the order the next day. Once windows had arrived, installation crew showed up on time and started right to work. By mid-afternoon, all 9 windows had been replaced, clean up was done and they were on their way.

Jason and Steve showed with the widows and got right to work. They tore out the old windows and installed the new windows in about 3 hours. Jason and Steve were both awesome guys. Really knew what they were doing. Very impressed with quality of work especially on such a custom job. The widows are great. Very good experience. We will definitely use again and highly recommend them.

The windows were high quality and the personnel were polite courteous and friendly. But the crew who did the installation lacked professionalism. The caulking and other finishing was sloppy and incomplete. However, when I called to complain they sent someone immediately to check the job and within two days everything was fixed properly. The new windows are wonderful.

Very professional and courteous. It was a 3 day job. There was one cracked window sill that resulted from the installation. I might not have noticed, but the installers replaced it as soon as they had a new sill available. There are a lot of choices when it comes to new windows. I think they gave good advice to us regarding the replacement windows.
