The contractors who came out to the house were friendly, punctual and professional. The work was done at the quoted price and done in a timely matter. Other electricians tried to convince me additional services were needed, but the contractors did not try to up-sell me into additional work.

Very professional, curious and on time. We were a little concerned about replacing our pool lights. We weren't sure if this was a common practice for this particular electrician. The technician was very knowledgeable and explained to us that in the past he wired pools for a living. He made us feel very comfortable. He did a great job. We definitely use them again.

There was an initial hiccup with scheduling but the company quickly worked to remedy the situation and were professional. Justin and Pat came out. They called on their way and were on time. They were very professional and knowledgeable. Justin was helpful with suggestions and worked efficiently. I am pleased with the work done and will use this company again in the future.

We were extremely pleased with the service American Electrical provided to our home. Klay and Jerry, our technicians, were professional and courteous throughout the entire project. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, explain the process, and work around our schedules if needed. Every day they showed up when they said they would and worked hard during the entire 5 week rewire. I would recommend them to any of my family and friends.

That is awesome! We are very pleased that everything went well. There are many historic and older homes in and around Jacksonville, with unique architecture. Many are well preserved but the electrical wiring and panels are not safe for the demands placed on them by number of modern appliances in today’s homes. The insulation on wires was very different in those days and as you can expect, brittle or non- existent. At American Electrical Contracting we have old home specialist. Master Electrician, Gary Hopkins consulted and supervised this job. Knob and tube wiring, two pin outlets, cloth insulation, time delay fuses and an assortment of push button switches, with shallow boxes for mounting fixtures, are just a few of the devices in old homes. When you combine old products with DYI (Do It Yourself) techniques of yesteryear and the new code requirements that buildings have to brought up to, you need experts. Call us with your requirements for your older home. Your walls are not hollow with sheet rock. They are probably plaster with cement and wood or in some places wire lathe. These jobs need the time, care and expertise we possess. Thank you for your business. Regards Robert Holness

Electricians arrived on time and went right to work. They got as much prep work done as possible before they had to cut power to my house. The new panel was installed very quickly and I had power back in less than 3 hours in my 3 bedroom 1926 bungalow. The next 2 hours were spent testing all my outlets, lights, and appliances, marking what was what on the new panel, replacing dead bulbs, and clean-up. Klay obviously has a ton of experience doing this, which put me at ease. Klay and his assistant were such nice gentlement to have working in my house. They took great care to make sure my cats did not get out. They cleaned up thoroughly after the job. A previous electrician had not wanted to put in outlet in my old plaster wall but these guys had absolutely no problem doing it, and very neatly. I am so relieved to have a new panel in my old house and feel blessed to have had Klay and his assistant perform the work. Thank you! .

FPE (Federal Pacific Electric) Electrical Panels are one of those terrible products in millions of homes that very few people know about. Today, when people get ready to sell their home is when they find out what a problem they have. Rather than explaining here go to our main web site www.american-electrical.com and click on the electrical panels tab and you will be very surprised. That link will only work from NON Mobile devices. Regards Robert Holness

I found this company here on Angie's list and decided to try them. Gary came out to give us an estimate and he showed up right on time. He listened to my needs and seemed to understand what I wanted to accomplish. The next day he had a quote in my email. The quote outlined the work they would do and showed a total cost. I called a few weeks later to schedule the job and I was amazed that they were able to start right away. I think it was the next day (it's been about 9 months ago) three guys arrived and went to work. The guys were polite, clean and seemed to know what they were doing. I will just say they didn't waste any time - they had to dig a 100ft trench back to the new garage from the house, to bury wire, and they didn't waste any time there either. I also had a few very minor issues with a light switch and an outlet and they sorted that for me too - at no extra cost. These guys were all business. Within a few days my project was complete and everything has worked out since. No issues. I didn't even get the final bill until a few days later and this made me feel good that I was able to make sure everything was good before making final payment.

From small repair jobs to big commercial jobs the same level of attention to details in planning is taken to make sure the jobs go according to plans. It does not always work out that way because occasionally we get surprised. That is where knowledge and experience comes in to adjust to the unforeseen. Thank you for trusting us and spending your hard earned money here. Also, that is a great idea to include the pictures. Regards Robert Holness

My wife and I had a few light fixtures that we thought we could install ourselves so we wouldn't have to spend the money on install. We tried one and took down one more, quickly realizing we would need professional help. We had a short timeframe to be able to get everything done before we moved in and American Electrical was able to get an appointment the next day. I can't say enough about how happy we were with the quality of the work that was done for us. We ended up having 4 fixtures install and 5 smoke detectors. Ryan and Jerry were able to take care of everything in a very timely manner. The price was a lot better than I was originally expecting before I called them. I just wish I had known it was going to be this easy and affordable beforehand. I would have called them a lot sooner.

Thank you for being a customer. It is important that other readers understand that our rates are $98.50 for the first ½ hour and $27.50 for each ¼ hour. While this may scare some to contractors that quote a lower rate, often they find that contractor time start when the crew is dispatched, they often take longer to do the same job and sometimes have quality problems with the work. Our time starts upon arrival, the crews are totally professional getting right to work and if there are any issues we straighten them out, in addition to backing our work with a one year warranty. I was having trouble getting an electrician to return my calls and come out to do some work at my house. When I called American Electrical Contracting I was able to speak with someone right away and set up an appointment for that same week. They arrived when expected and did a great job. They were very knowledgeable and professional. They suggested the whole home surge protector while they were here and completed all of the work within a couple of hours. I would not hesitate to call them again.

I called American Electric at a little after 9:00 a.m. to schedule someone to check out electrical panel to see what had caused our AC and water pumps to stop working. I was told that the earliest that someone could come by would be in the afternoon, but 40 minutes after I scheduled the appointment, American Electrical called back and said that they had a technician on the way. When Ryan arrived, he immediately checked the power panel, determining the problem and then went outside to check the meter box. Once that was done and he knew what to replace, he immediately called his office and got the ball rolling, and with the help of Florida Light & Power, he had the burned out bus bars replaced, the meter reinstalled, and the house was back to full power. American Electric didn't hesitate to schedule someone, and they even went out of their way to get someone to our home earlier than expected. Then cost was a lot less than expected, saving us not only time, but some money also. Ryan knew what he was doing and explained everything in layman terms for me to understand. Thank you American Electric for the quick service.

This was my first experience with American Electrical Contracting and also with hiring an electrician. We needed to have a 20 amp circuit installed inside our home and they had many great reviews on Angie's List, so we decided to give them a try. The guys arrived on time, were very polite and finished the job in less than an hour. They explained the process to me before they began working and then cleaned up after themselves before they left. I had a great experience with this company and if we ever need electrical work again, I will definitely give them a call!

Chose this company due to its high ratings on Angie's List and was not disappointed. I had originally requested the consultation as I needed to get electricity to a room addition to place a window AC and I wanted to move my television to above the fireplace as well as switch out plugs and switches throughout the house. After reviewing my request Bob advised me to not move the television. I thought that was commendable. He could have done just what the customer asked, charged me and went on his way. The television would have been fine until I used the fireplace. He then went to my electrical panel to determine adding the circuits for the room addition. What he found was a Federal Pacific panel and he advised me to watch an NBC expose on these particular circuit breakers. I knew the panel was old and figured I would need to replace it at some point. Bob advised me to prioritize my work and I decided that replacing the electrical panel was my priority. We scheduled the service and Bob kept me fully informed. Lonnie and Mike arrived at 8:30 on a Friday and did not leave until 6:30 that evening. When Lonnie started replacing the panel, he found that the stove had inappropriate wiring as did the hot water heater (discovered by Bob). We heard from the neighbors that the prior owner of the house had used her grandson for several projects around the house and it is now obvious he did not know what he was doing. I bought the house as is during a foreclosure so am reaping what was sown then. But I am grateful that Bob and his team were looking out for my welfare and identifying these issues. Some might say that they were just looking at ways to increase their bottom line. I do not believe that is the case with this company as the things they pointed out to me, even my untrained eye recognized as being not quite right. I just did not know why they didn't look right. I believe American Electrical genuinely cares about their customers and are looking to foster long term relationships and garner repeat customers. I know that I will have them back to finish up my original list and other items that Bob pointed out to me would need to be done at a future date. Thanks guys for making me a happy customer.

Thank you for choosing us. When doing renovations to your home a good approach is to plan carefully do the most important things first. Keep your overall plan in mind so you do not undo what you did to do something else. When doing something you are unfamiliar with it can seem overwhelming. Take baby steps and break your big job into manageable smaller jobs to organize your thoughts. A good contractor should not do unnecessary work and should help you to the best of their ability. We will always do our best and we always appreciate your business and patronage. Regards Robert Holness

Estimator (Holness) was easy to work with. He made various good suggestions without being pushy about up-selling more expensive services. He was also quick to respond to service renegotiation. Work team (Mills and Pratt) worked efficiently, and dealt with complications admirably (no complaints or increases to cost estimates). Overall the service was fine. The customer service was less than desirable. The mechanic had a "helper" who did all the grunt work. I understand the process of coming up through the ranks but the mechanic was extremely rude and bossy to his helper. He obviously was very green and didn't understand a lot of what the mechanic was saying. I felt bad for the kid, to be honest. Mechanic was voice texting while performing work. The job took a little bit longer than what I thought it should, which is convenient since they charge hourly. The mechanic used a card reader on his phone to charge me for the service. I received a phone call the next day from a woman in billing who said the mechanic forgot to charge me for materials and I would need to give her my credit card again. Not horrible, but inconvenient. I would use the company again but request someone other than the mechanic who came out that day. ***UPDATE**" What a mess. I couldn't figure out why one of my 15 amp breakers kept tripping a 20 amp breaker. I went up into my six to discover the genius was up there in June tied in several circuits in one junction box. I should have kicked them out and asked for a supervisor to come finish the job. Not a happy customer.

AE arrived and the electricain tells me they won't guarantee the installation of a motion light as they are hard to control. He then has his assistant climb a ladder to remove the back motion light. I walked back to the room with the electrician to the electrical panel and he began telling me how to add a drain pipe to the water heater?. I showed him the small panel that needed to be "killed" and the large white cable that fed the box and took him inside the house to show him the two plugs. Back outside the assistant had cut the thick wires and had not removed the face plate. He was chastised by the electician. Then we are outside and the electrician yells to the assistant under the house something about the wiring to be pulled. I hear a yell and the electrician says "you cut the wrong wire." I was horrified. I asked if I needed to call 911. He called to the guy under the house and he did answer. I should have thrown them off the job at this point. Some 20 minutes later the electrician says it will be awhile as they have to fix the cut wire but it will be no charge. I had to leave to pick up a child from camp. He finally called and said they were through. I wrote the check and said I could not read the invoice copy clearly and gave him my email to have a copy sent. As we were in the front and walked past the motion light came on. They left and I went inside the house. The plug in the family room had been removed and the plate was installed poorly with part of the box showing and there was black dirt on the new carpet. The plug in the bedroom was correct. The panel appears to be correct but I am not an electrician. The back motion light did not come on. I had another appointment with the child but called the office and told her the light did not work and that they had taked some 50 feet of 220 cable that I wanted to keep to recycle. She said they were still in the area and he wcould call me to stop by. He did call and said the motion light only worked at night and that he said they would not guarantee the light. He said he would leave me the cable and I asked that he double check to make sure the back light was wired correctly as this is where the assistant cut the wire short. Overall the service call was traumatic and very stressful. I also had to call again and request the clear hard copy of the invoice. I would never use this company again.
Description of Work: House in under a sales contract. They were asked to remove and blank off two old 220 plugs inside the house, and kill the small electrical panel as the source. This would involve pulling approximately 50 feet of wiring under the crawl space. They were asked to install two new motion detection lights in the same location as the old ones.

Response from American Electrical Contracting Inc
Wow that was ugly and we sincerely apologize that this job did not go as planned. When we see unsatisfactory reviews they tend to catch our eyes faster than satisfactory reviews for two reasons, first because we do not receive many and second because we want to investigate to get to the bottom of the issues. I checked with the electrician and unfortunately we will make no excuses, things simply did not go right. However, I do need to clarify a few points made in the review because he is an excellent electrician regularly requested by many. As a company we are not fans of motion sensor lights. Over the years many brands have been unreliable, especially the low cost products that the home stores put on sale. Those with the range and sensitivity setting allows the setting of how wide a rage of motion you want detected and how sensitive you want them to be. Many of these lights do not maintain their settings long term, especially when there are power fluctuations. We warranty our labor not the products supplied by customers. If we supply products that develop a problem within the manufacturers’ warranty, we are going to work with the customer to get that manufacturer to support their product. If your home store product does not work properly and we determine that it was installed properly, you have to tackle the warranty issue with either the store or the manufacturer. That is what the electrician meant. We always warranty our labor for one year. His comment about the drain pipe for the water heater was meant to be helpful. If we see something wrong we are going to point it out to a homeowner. No we do not do that kind of work but you now have the option of calling a plumber to take a look. From Angie’s List, to Google, to our online Service Feedback From, to Customer Testimonials, on our website, to letters and phone calls we all receive, they are overwhelmingly complimentary. Again, we apologize as I am sure the office also did. Regards Robert Holness
