ACCURATE GUTTERS & HOME WORKS INC

We had very old windows in our house, so it was time to get them replaced. I got quotes from several companies, and Accurate had the lowest bid for what appeared to be the nicest windows. The salesman/owner seemed a little shady, but I had a written estimate, so I went ahead with it. A day or 2 later, I get a call from Seaborn with a sob story about how he didn't figure in some random number to the quote, etc. and he had to raise the price about $600 (not much, when you're talking about a house full of windows, but didn't seem kosher...). Classic bait and switch. He suckered me in w/ a low bid, knew it was probably lower than the competition, got me to bite, then upped the price. Should have walked away at that point, but didn't want to go thru the trouble of reviewing all the other windows/companies again. We go a month or so without hearing anything. When I do get a call back, it's with more excuses, delays, etc. Then (guess he lost track of who he had already baited and switched -- I'm guessing - from his pile of stories, that this is his common business practice) he has the audacity to call me AGAIN with another story about how the factory misquoted him on the windows, and he needs to up the price again, by about $600. - says he can't do it for less than that. Of course, he knows he has me in a pickle -- I've already waited a long time for these windows. If I had to start the process w/ another company, I'm looking at another 6 weeks. So, again, against my better judgment, I continued w/ Accurate. Finally got the windows in, and they're decent. He did pull his crew off my job in the middle of it to attend to a bigger/more expensive job, so we had a 1/2 finished job sitting there for almost a week. Also -- he insisted that I make my deposit and final checks payable to him, personally (not his company). Again, this just sounds shady. So -- if you grew up on the streets of New York and can shuck and jive -- go with this company. You'll probably get a good price for a good product. Or, if you're a contract lawyer who likes to tangle with crooked businessmen -- go for it! But, if you don't like dealing with shady people, being lied to, or having your agreed upon price upped from the original quote --STAY AWAY. Buyer beware!
