1-800-GOT-JUNK?

Terrible, the company was removing some items from two storage sheds, and my family was moving the items we wanted to keep to our personal vehicle. The guys told me that they take all the items to a warehouse and go through it. They wound up putting a box of vintage and brand new vinyl records in their truck, though it’s worth over 600$ and I wanted to put them in our vehicle. So they took them and when I contacted the store several times, I was given the run around, about who to contact. After a couple of weeks trying to get transferred to the local store, I finally made contact, though the main store didn’t ever want to give me the local store phone number and they often didn’t answer the transfer call request from the main company. Basically the local store said they’d check and get back to me. Then a weekend passed and no response. Called again and got the run around once more with promises the store would call. Again nothing. Overall, the company originally told me they go through and sell the items they can, but wouldn’t tell me the place they sold my records to so I could go repurchase them even. Terrible Buisness, DON’T TRUST them. Then got ahold of someone higher up who said that they cannot go through the items and all pickups are transferred to the local dump…? Why would the workers say something completely different then? They told me they go through the items and sell what they can… Awful experience.

I contacted 1-800-Got-Junk on Wednesday. Their telephone representative was professional and pleasant to work with. He explained the process and was able to schedule an appointment the following day (Thursday). Unfortunately, the issue was that 1-800-Got-Junk was deceptive in their pricing methods and estimates. Their telephone representative made it clear that pricing was done by volume (the amount of space taken up in the truck). I clarified that we were primarily removing dirt/soil and the representative confirmed this was not a problem. Based on the representative's description of the truck, it was clear the truck was capable of handling the volume of the project. Additionally, I examined the company's website and the volume-based pricing was confirmed in multiple locations. No alternative pricing for dirt was listed. The crew arrived on time and were courteous and professional. However, they informed me that although the truck was capable of holding all the dirt by volume, they used a separate pricing mechanism for dirt (by truck bed instead of by volume). Instead of the original approximate estimate of $400-$600 i received on the phone, they informed me it would take approximately 2-3 truck beds to remove the dirt, which would cost around $1,000. Due to the time constraints of our project, it was too late to find an alternative disposal method, given the volume of dirt on the lawn. I was compelled to agree to have them take away at least a portion of the dirt (agreeing to 1 truck bed). Had I been told they operated a different pricing structure for dirt and soil, I'd have chosen to hire a dumpster, which would have been half the cost. My frustration was compounded by the fact that the gentleman on the phone specifically informed me there was no need to place the dirt in containers or bags. However, when the crew arrived, they stated that had the dirt been in bags, they could have taken much more. Due to the company's deceptive pricing (either intentionally or unintentionally), my project's overall cost increased dramatically over what was initially promised.

Overall, it went well. They were very easy to schedule, arrived on time and were very nice and professional. At first, they quoted me a price much higher than the web site pricing chart indicated. However, they negotiated it down substantially and in the end, charged me about what the web site implied it should cost. I would use them again but keep an eye on that pricing!

These guys were great. 1-800-Got-Junk came out when I needed them and dismantled the shed. They cleaned up the mess and did not take much time doing it. They were very thorough and professional. They provide a great service, because I do not have any experience to compare them to.
