Larsen Home Improvements Inc

Homebuilders, General Remodeling, Kitchen and Bath Remodeling,

About us

"Our repairs solve the source of the problem" In other words, we specialize in fixing builder errors. I'm a "Hands On" builder. I have over 16 years of experience and have been serving the area since 2001. I'm not a builder who just sits behind a desk and/or just drives around in a truck. Some of my work involves many details and critical issues such as leaks. The rest of my work is mainly what I listed. By fixing so many builder errors over the years, I know what they did wrong and how to fix the problem the right way. Additional address - 12515 Hidden Dr, Jacksonville, FL 32225. Additional fax - (904) 220-7622. Additional DBA - Larsen Home Improvements.

Joe Larsen was always here when he said he would be and made sure that the sub-contractors were as well. We've had other work done before and without a doubt Larsen Home Improvements has done a superior job to any other contractors we have used.
Description of Work: Larsen's Home Improvements owner Joe Larsen, supervised the removal of the old tub and the plumbing and electrical fixtures. He then removed the walls, the floor and cabinets. He then rebuilt everything from the ground up, he was always on time, he worked every minute that he was on the clock and quite a few when he wasn't. He corrected issues with the floor that were unexpected and installed new walls, had plumbers come in and install a new soaking tub, the commode and new sink and vanity, an electrician installed a new ceiling light with heat and exhaust, he then tiled the tub/shower installed a new medicine cabinet and towel bars. We now have a bathroom that would not look out of place on the pages of a magazine or in a home worth twice what ours is.

Joe's workmanship and attention to detail are unsurpassed. As my wife changed her mind more than once, causing delays, Joe was quickly able to adjust. With a job as big as ours was, it was expected to be a bit messy. Each day, Joe ensured that before he left for the day, materials were cleaned up and our home was left with as little of a mess as was possible. Joe quoted a price that was more than fair and completed the work on time.
Description of Work: Extensive work to the exterior of the home was completed including the removal of all T 111 that was replaced with hardie board siding, all windows were removed and replaced. Repairs were made to the roof and new shingles were put on the house.

We called and Robert was able to come out the same day as another job was cancelled. They showed up and had the 5 blinds up within the hour. I put one up myself and they took about 45 minutes a piece for me. It was great to have them done and have them done so quickly. Robert also told me that for other work I thought needed to be done that it was fine as is and that it'd be a waste of money. Honest, quick, and friendly. I'd highly recommend going with Robert to take care of the honey do list.

Project went extremely well. Ahead of schedule and looks fantastic. Joe Larsen is a real stickler for details and it shows in his work ethic. Joe is very professional. Joe Larsen's help with design ideas helped make this project a major success. We are now starting our second project with Joe that will involve major leak repairs to our chimney and roof as well as replace and redesign the fireplace; screen room and painting.

We have contracted with Larsen Home Improvements in the past for a huge renovation of house $30k+ and couldn't get enough of him. Went back to him with another special project to give us more privacy over the pool patio to add additional 2 feet so 8 feet total of privacy. Showed him a picture of a really cool looking privacy fence from architectural digest and he was able to come up with a beautiful functional design that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Really changed the whole ambience of the pool patio. Used cypress wood for long term wear and good in weather. Treated the wood but left raw in color. Joe is very gifted and is a true artisan. It's like a work of art. wish you could see it. Slatted wood, louvered, so allows ventilation but maximum privacy. Main thing is it gives the pool patio area a cool vibe. With the red brick pavers and mosaic, tiled pool makes everything look cool. Larsen Home Improvements seems to be able to do it all, from major projects to small custom made jobs. My wife is already thinking of something else to add to the house and will be getting back in touch with Joe soon. Plan to stay in the house for awhile and don't mind at all as it's quite beautiful now, not that it wasn't before. Just has more of a custom feel to the place and very comfortable home. Thank you Joe at Larsen Home Improvements, Inc.

Joe is a very conscientious and ethical professional. When he tells you he when and what he will be doing you can be assured that it will be done and up to his very high standards. He has a very capable assistant who is equally hard working and professional. I was very satisfied with the work Joe did and appreciated how responsive he was regarding the progress of the project. I consider Joe the consummate professional and recommend him unreservedly to others.

I have hired Joe on numerous occasions over the last 10 years. In fact, my recent experience was my third house during that time. While I have previously recommended Joe, and up until now I have been very satisfied with is work, I can no longer recommend him based on that recent experience. My wife and I recently bought a relatively new home, but we still wanted to make some changes. I contacted Joe first, as has been my custom for a decade. He said he wanted the work. I gave Joe several weeks notice that I needed him to start Monday, December 1st. He appeared Wednesday, December 3rd, without explanation or apology. In fact, he walked in and started to criticize the work of another contractor who was on premises and is prompt, reasonable, works on the job until we are satisfied, and always cleans up afterwards. Joe showed up at noon on Thursday, and said his assistant would be there Friday. He arrived at 3:30. We were adding some crown molding in the kitchen and family room, and we wanted to have a doorway framed in for French doors, even though the doors we ordered wouldn't be available until late December or early January. That way, all of the construction mess would be cleaned up, and we could hold family Christmas dinner in our new home that we occupied on December 18th. Like nearly every home built in North Florida in the last 15 years, the walls had an orange peel texture. So we had to have the new wall sections textured. Joe called in someone who did the ceiling in a 53 foot long space in our last house and did a great job, so we did not anticipate a problem. Although they had masked/bagged a significant amount, the overspray was everywhere: the floor, the ceiling, and walls in the new office; the pillars in the hallway; and even the dining room walls that were over 15 feet away. I texted a picture to Joe and said: "Mac went crazy today. All over this pillar and even on the far wall of the dining room." His answer? "Well otherwise would have to mask off all those rooms entirely it was very high-pressure if you see those spots just wipe them with wet rag and repaint them Or I will do it when I come back for the door Oh by the way the cheap skate builder caused all this disturbance by putting Orangepeel"[sic]. Really? That's not my definition of delivering quality work. We exchanged emails, especially after I received a bill that I thought was exorbitant. Here are a selection of his comments: "Your office needed repainting anyway." [Note: it had just had 3 coats of new paint.] "We could've covered up more but we were thought we were okay. The orange peel s**t was all caused by the cheap a** builder." "If you were on task you would have the door there right away." "You should have never painted any areas around the work that was going to be done." Joe and I normally don't have a formal contract. He previously did good work and charged a fair price. For this job he did not suggest bidding the job and going to a formal contract. Yet he stated: "If I bid the job including the painting that would've been done after then you [wouldn't have] known about any overspray." "You did things in the wrong order. Sorry you didn't know any better." In the future, I will stick to contractors that take responsibility for their work, charge a fair price, and treat their customers with respect.
Description of Work: The tasks were: install crown molding in the kitchen and family room to complement what was already installed in the main hall, den/office, and dining room. Also, to frame in the den opening for French doors, including texture and priming.

Response from Larsen Home Improvements Inc
[Member Name] has been a good customer for years and now has removed his good review of me with all A'S and now is slandering me. Sorry, but there are two sides to every story. [Member Name] caused all the problems by not being on task and listening to the contractor/builder. Yes, I told [Member Name] that the other tile/handyman doing other work (probably unlicensed without liability and workers comp insurance, that's usually who I bid against ) didn't protect the pavers and exterior stucco wall by the hose bib leaving a mess. Yes, I offered to give [Member Name] painting tips and advice which he needed badly but he said "Joe I'm 63 and can't change my ways." That's why I didn't tell him to quit painting the areas around the door opening, which always needs and gets repainted anyways after it was altered, plastered and sprayed. Yes, he got a terrible tile job done by the tile guys and they just plastered the walls smooth not even doing an orange peel patch. Yes, [Member Name] failed to get the door delivered on time and give me the rough opening size before he started painting the walls which always should be done after door openings are altered and plaster work is done. Yes, I have to take on other jobs just as important as his while waiting for others to start and couldn't get there Monday which he was okay with. Seeing that both the crown molding and door job were to be done at the same time, he wouldn't and didn't seem to be in a hurry. Also, Wednesday when we got there, he was happy, pleasant, not upset, and told me I was the fastest worker he has ever know. I have a great work ethic. He never even gave me the door opening size so it didn't seem like altering it was a priority. I finished the crown molding completely before the following Monday. I finally got the rough opening, after asking him more than once, the following Monday a week after he wanted me to start both jobs. Yes, I should have done more cover up, admitted it, and yes the rooms needed to be repainted anyways so it didn't matter. Please don't get me wrong, we had plastic all over the area being sprayed and drop cloths on the floor. We thought we were good. There was just some spray that went like across the room unexpectedly. Yes, I offered to send cleaners, which is normal and he refused. No, Orange Peel is not common for me and in houses. It seems to be getting more common in production builders lately. It is done to cover up wall errors and save the builder money. The problem is patching orange peel is impossible by hand and it needs to be sprayed on by a 60 PSI sprayer. Then comes the cover up and masking off part. Yes, my houses that I built have smooth professional walls. Yes, [Member Name] said he hates Orange Peel and when we did it in his house he said it looked great! Yes, the builder didn't have the walls done professionally and installed correctly. There are knife marks and tape joints are very noticeable. Yes, he could have saved some money by being on task and having me do everything at the some time. It costs more money making multiple trips. Yes, he was charged fairly, never asked for a fixed price, and I have done many jobs for him in the past that way which he is always okay with (Time plus material charge). I work fast and efficiently and things need to be done in the right order to do so. I built a 3200SF house in under 3 months, I think I know how to schedule work the correct way. Please read all of my reviews and feel free to let me know if you would like any phone numbers or more references. Thanks Joe President of Larsen Home Improvements, Inc.

From the beginning Joe and his team have been nothing but professionals. Always on time, always gives notice when to expect him. Joe takes pride in his work, something rarely seen these days. Through out the process Joe has always made himself available to answer any questions and help guide us thru the process. Even when we caused vanity issues, twice, joe took the time to help us resolve the issues and his workers went above and beyond. Chad and don stayed after completing their work for the day to help us transport our first wrongly ordered set of vanities. In everything they do, joe and his guys take the time to do the job correct, the first time. If you want QUALITY workmanship call joe. I would definitely recommend and rehire Larsen home improvements.

Six weeks on job. Owner Joe Larsen was on site almost whole time. His main guy Don was extremely good. They are very meticulous and deliberate going about their job. Very high quality work and trustworthy. Left them to the house alone and felt very safe. Even took care of any ups, FedEx, mail, paper deliveries to the house. Joe is very active and buzzes around like a bumblebee whereas Don is the more chill one. Great combination. Work well with clients and keeps you well informed of what's going on. Had to travel a bit while work being done and he sent many texts with pics of what was happening. Really appreciated his communication with us every step of the way. Great to work with, hard part is trying to pin him down as they are very busy. Seems like the house building/renovation activity, at least in our area, has picked up quite a bit. Paint job was a major deal, used elastomer and outer paint covering. Required 3+ coats. Plus a lot of trim work in a different color scheme around the whole house. Especially patio which has rafters. That was detailed painstaking paint work. Wife really appreciated effort they put in and how accommodating they were to my wife's requests and response to her modifications. Highly recommend joe Larsen and his crew for any hou repair, build, renovation work. They are very good and worth the cost. You can expect high quality work and craftsmanship from this company. Owner is very detailed oriented and asks his people that work with him the same. Won't hesitate to hire him again or recommend him to friends and family. Already recommended him to my realtor. Thanks Joe, Don and other crew for all that you did for us these last 6 weeks.

The shower no longer leaks and is now built to the correct specifications, which it wasn't originally. Also, the travertine tile work is beautiful. Joe was very professional and kept the dust and dirt of the shower demolition and rebuild to a minimum. Joe spent a lot of time getting the travertine tile work perfect. I would not hesitate to use Joe Larsen, Larsen Home Improvements, for any home repair or improvement project.
Description of Work: The shower in our master bath was leaking through the floorboards. Joe Larsen took out the old tiled shower, put in a sub floor material that will not leak, replaced base boards and dry wall where needed and then retiled the shower in travertine tile.

They did a professional job as agreeed, on time, and within budget. Mr Larsen properly supervised his subcontractors, while performing many skilled tasks himself. Having been a general contractor for 40 years, now retired and having worked with many contractors, can say that having worked with Joe Larsen is among the best experiences I have had. He does what he says he is going to do. If for some reason there was a scheduling change, he would inform me right away. Most of Mr. Larsen's subcontractors have been working closely with him for several years.

Joe works at an intense pace. He also talks the entire time he works, so you have to get used to that. But he doesn't stand and talk, he WORKS and talks. In my opinion, he doesn't take short-cuts. He thinks things out, explains what he's going to do and why, and then executes. I've used Joe's services several times over a 10 year period. If you want quality and a fair (not bargain) price, call Joe.
Description of Work: Joe did a major remodel on our family room, including replacing a small window with a huge picture window. It involved structure, drywall, ceiling/knock-down reno, etc. The work was excellent. We were out of town for part of this and he kept us informed via email and photos of his work. I have previously had Joe work at this and one other house. Jobs including replacing an upstairs French door, replacing the support structure of a huge front porch, etc. I was very satisfied with every job.

A really nice guy who went out of his way to make the remodel as painless as possible. We were originally told we had to be out of the house for two days but Joe orchestrated things so we didn't have to be out of our home for more than 12 hours at the longest. That was the most painful part of the remodel. After that it was all good.
Description of Work: We contracted Mr. Joe Larsen to refurbish our kitchen, family room and hall by removing old tile and laminate flooring and popcorn ceilings. In addition to this we had recessed lights installed in the family room and decorative tile put on the wall separating the family room and kitchen. We have hired Mr. Larsen three times over the past ten years to almost rebuild our home. I can't say enough about his work as he always does an incredible job and pays attention to detail. He stand by his work and if something needs to be touched up he will swing by and take care of the job. I would highly recommend him to anyone...a true professional.
