DS Killian Roof & General Contractors Inc

After researching roofers on Angie's List, I called DS Killian Roofers to come out and fix my leaking roof. We spoke on the phone on a Monday and agreed that they would come out on Friday, four days later, at 8:30. I was encouraged by the high rating on Angie's List and reasonable price that I was quoted. However, no one showed up on that Friday morning. I called several times throughout the day on Friday to find out what was going on but no one answered my calls. Even now, no one has returned my voicemail. I understand that things come up that may prevent keeping appointments but they could have at least called to let me know. I took a day off of work to meet these guys. There is no way they will ever get my business now.

I called for an estimate on a flat roof and was given an estimate of $4800 dollars. I called the office a couple of times to be sure that the estimate I was given was still valid. I talked a girl named Tiffany and was told that the price included everything needed for a complete reroof. Except that if there were any boards that needed to be replaced that that would be extra. I asked if it was possible to pay with a credit card and I was assured it would be okay. I called to set a start date and the General Manager came out to talk to me about the Job he had informed me that his office girl Tiffany had passed away a couple of days prior and he also told me that because of that he could not Honor my estimate and that he would have revise it and give me a new one. After several days of not hearing from the office I called and talked to the owner and was told that my estimate would be 2500 more than the 4800 that I was quoted. I asked for a revised estimate and was assured it would be given to me but as of yet 8/19/2012, I have not received it. I was also told that I would have to pay for the materials up front and pay the balance with cash. I explained that was nowhere on his Angie?s list ad or on the estimate. He told me I could pay the full amount to the vendor of the materials and he would get credit from the vendor for the Labor charge. That is not how a contractor does business I know my Step father is a General contractor. THIS IS NOT A GOOD BUSSINESS PRACTICE. I told him I felt it was unfair that he quote a price for a reroof and then when I call to schedule the work that the price shot up to almost twice the original estimate. And he was just a little flippant about it. Needless to say I will not be going with Killian unless he honor the original estimate.

This was very disappointing. cannot believe in this economic climate that someone rated with an A rating would turen away business

We had to wait a while before they could come out to perform the inspection (I purchased this deal on June 29, 2012) because they were still busy from tropical storms Beryl and Debby damage. I understood and didn't have a problem with that. They caulked anything that looked suspicious. I was happy with that, as one of our pipe vents would leak only when the rain would hit it a certain way. However, after they performed this, two of my pipe vents leaked during the next rain. I called and they sent someone out August 24, 2012 to caulk them again. As far as receiving the inspection report, it took approximately two weeks to receive it. I also asked for a quote for a new shingle roof after they performed the inspection and that took a while as well. They gave me a verbal quote of $6,600.00 over the phone. However, when they emailed the proposal/contract to me the amount was $8,450.00. Needless to say, I'm in the process of obtaining more quotes and do not plan on contracting with them.

They were 3 weeks late from the originally scheduled work date, causing roof leaks to continue for an undesirable length of time. It took over 5 emails sent for them to finally respond to my request to be present during the roof maintenance/inspection. I requested a final report (i.e. photos, a final review of the overall condition of the roof, etc). DS Killian stated they would be sending that report within the week, it has now been 5 weeks and I have not heard a word from this company. On a positive note, the technician on site was good, he was polite and responsive to my questions and completed the work within a couple of hours. However, all in all, a poor experience. I was trying them out to see if they would be a good company to maybe use for a new roof at my other house and they failed that test.

At the time of the roof inspection, I was told what I suspected: The local community of pesky little squirrels had chewed on and completely eated away a few of the lead boots that cover the vents that protrude through the roof. This, of course required the complete replacement of all six due to possible leakage. The Killian Company set-up a very speedy appointment to do this. They sent two well experienced men who spent five hours through sun and rain, working as hard as I have ever seen to complete an excellent job. The bill was $ 900.00 all inclusive, less the $ 149.00 inspection fee. Lesson: have your roof inspected every five years, more offen is you are blessed with pesky little (destructive) squirrels!

Promptly after ordering the Big Deal the provider sent an email indicating that everything would be behind schedule because of the recent heavy rains and urgent service calls. The email also asked for some details about what kinds of repairs our roof needed and reminding us that the Big Deal was only for minor repairs. I responded that I just wanted an overall inspection and a minor repair to the flashing around the chimney. I also responded that I understood the scheduling delays because the rains had been terrible in July and lots of people were needier than me. Two weeks later I received an email saying they would be getting to the Big Deal appointments that week. At this point I was still happy, and was simply anticipating a more specific appointment time. A couple of days passed and I got another email saying my appointment was July 31 (which actually was not the week they said it would be). Not a terribly big deal, but I was starting to wonder if it would happen, particularly since I was going out of town for two weeks the day after the appointment. The email also said they would contact me with more details. I never received more details about the July 31 appointment. I came home from work early that day in case they showed up. I never heard a peep. The day AFTER my scheduled appointment I got an email saying they still hadn't been able to get us scheduled because they were so busy. It did not mention my July 31 appointment or their failure to keep it. They said they were doubling their manpower and would get to us soon. When I got the email I was on vacation, so I asked them not to schedule me before August 15. They never responded with an appointment time. Aug 15 came and went. Finally on Aug 30 (now 2 months after I paid), assuming I would never hear from them again, I emailed and asked them when my appointment would be. They responded immediately and said I would know by the end of the day. It is now Sep 8 (nine days later) and I have not heard another word from them. I understand a little delay because of the July rains, but the inability to make or keep appointments, over and over, and the failure to keep the customer informed, is just ridiculous.

We were supposed to have the roof inspection in July. We waited for them on the day of the appointment but no one came. I called to follow them up and they said that there had been some changes in the schedule and they even asked me to leave the plan with the tenants or on the porch. We have another appointment so we cannot wait for them. I called them yesterday to ask if they did the roof inspection and the lady that I talked to said that she think that the inspection is already done. They already charged me for the service that I am not sure they really did. I will give them a day or two to have the work done and if they did not do their job, I will demand my money back.

Called and left a message 7-27-12. Received a response the same day confirming the receipt of our message and told that we would receive an Email with an estimate for replacing our roof. Called a second time after the weekend and left a message concerning the status. No response that day or the next morning. Placed a third call which was answered. Several excuses were given but was assured that the estimate was being done and I would receive soon. Two days later with no estimate. We selected another company.

The price was very reasonable and they stayed right on track with their estimates. The final product looks beautiful!

They were pretty good. They gave us an estimate and it was pretty much accurate. They did their work promptly and they were pretty neat. They didn't leave a big mess. They finished on schedule which was a big thing. My husband also got an estimate for tile but he went with another company because they were not the cheapest but they were pretty good on the roofing. Their price was mid-range.

Canceled service do to no response from contractor after two weeks. If they were too busy they should have let me know!!!

It was good He presented himself in a business like manner, looked at what I asked him to do, told me how he would do it and the cost of the job. He came to do the work when he said he would and did it as he said he would and at the price he quoted.

As before, I am grateful that the leak was a VERY small one, that we saw it right away and that we called Dave right away. Dave takes customer service very serious as evidenced by the fact that he was the one who insisted on attending to the leak as soon as possible for us. Thank you and yes, I will continue to recommend DS Killian Roof & General Contractors Inc!

This job was done in 2 days and that was also a pleasant surprise. We love the new roof and we have had it for about one year. We got DS Killian Roof & General Contractors Inc number from a neighbor who used them and had rave reviews. Looked on Angie's List and saw the same. As I stated above, you would never have known a work crew was here because they cleaned up and that is not something that I find to be typical. It is a nice detail and one I appreciate having experienced work crews that think nothing of throwing cigarette butts, coffee cups and the like in my yard. HUGE SIDE BENEFIT! We did not expect that the three skylights that DS Killian would replace would allow us to relax, in peace, in our family room/kitchen area. We had the large bubble kind that were made from plastic or plexi-glass. The new skylights are SO silent we hardly hear the rain. Previously, when it rained and stormed, which is frequently, we couldn't even hear one another in those rooms which are quite large, much less enjoy watching TV or listening to music. I was also shocked by the price point and kicking myself that we didn't replace those sooner! IF you get a new roof and have skylights - GET THEM REPLACED!!! You won't regret it!!! Dave is easy to communicate with, but the only hiccup we had was in getting the warranty. We did get it, it just took some time. I believe he was a tad understaffed at the time, but I think that issue has been resolved. He took care of it and we are all set. I have no complaints and no reservations about recommending DS Killian to friends and family.

He basically told me what we needed done. He gave an esimate over the phone. He was very nice. We ended up going with another company.

He looked at my roof via satelite, rather than come out to do the measurements in person. He then informed me the offer had expired. When I looked on the Angie's List website, the Deal was still being offered.

All went smoothly and efficiently. Dave gave me an excellent price and even some credit for some shingles I had left over from my garage roof. Workers were all timely, polite and cleaned up well. Some minor plant damage from dumpster placement: no big deal, they'll grow back! Could not be more pleased - thanks to Angie's List for the confidence to hire without worries or the need to do a lot of independent research.

Excellent job! I have a ranch home with a simple roof design. Dave gave a fair bid and demonstrated he wanted to earn the business. He made a suggestion regarding the use of stainless steel nails that no other contractor suggested, which I appreciated. His team arrived and completed the job in one day and did a very good job of cleaning up. He was also able to do the job very quickly from the time of the bid, and that helped me also.

I found them on Angie's List with a coupon they offered. They are very conscientious and did a complete job. The owner is a general contractor who knows how to do a lot of different things. He is very thorough in what he does. The price was excellent.

Once we came to terms, the job went well. I got 4 bids, selected this company to replace the roof from the bids and others experiences. When i called back to arrange a date to start, i was informed there was a price increase because of materials and insurance. The price was still very competitive so we came to terms. Once the crew was on site, the job went very smooth and fast. it still amazes me that a roofing job can get done that fast. The site was cleaned up, very minor follow up work and i was satisfied with the final product.

Everything went well with the entire roof being replaced in slightly more than a day.

I found DS Killian Roof and General Contractors on Angies List. I had other contractors submit bids but felt the most comfortable with Dave and the price he quoted. Dave made several suggestions to improve both the durability and looks of the roof that were beneficial to me as a homeowner. We also asked Dave for his thoughts on the shingle color and they were in line with what we thought would look good as well which increased our comfort level with his company. We aggreed on a price and scheduled the work for the following Thursday with an expected time of 1 1/2 days for completion. The crew showed up as scheduled Thursday morning and immediately went to work. Some rotted wood was replaced in several areas and by Friday afternoon when I arrived home the roof was completed, the yard was cleaned up of any shingles, paper, and roofing nails. The roof looked wonderful and several of the neighbors complimented me on how good the house looked with the new roof. My experience with Dave and his crew was very positive. Dave was very responseive the couple of times I called him with questions. He met with me that afternoon after the roof was completed to review the job and identify the areas where rotted wood was replaced. Dave turned the roofing experience into a very positive one and I would not hesitate to recommend him to someone else.

Mr. Killian explained in detail the work to be performed and the cost. The estimate was accurate. The roofers were prompt, courteous and hard working. With all the nails, I was worried about cleanup, but they were very good about removing debris. The roof looks great.

Crew came in over a span of a week. They were punctual and professional. They started the work taking down the expected piece of the wall, determined that the damage was a bit more widespread that they thought. They took out more of the wall and replaced the drywall and stucco. They came back and painted. They cleaned up well. We are quite happy with their work. I would certainly go back to them for other work.
