Horrible co. Don’t mind paying if job is good and it wasn’t. They used contractors who failed to put down roof paper in an area causing a leak which resulted in serious damage which they didn’t stand behind nor did they fix the roof properly. Stay away!

salesman gave a 6,000.00 price and offered me a cash free miami dade tax program to add the cost to my property taxes at 500.00 dollars a year for 25 years that would be income tax deductible. My math makes it 12,500.00 for a three section roof. My idea of the cost was more like 2500.00 to 3000.00 true i am not a roofer but 4 times the cost,no.

I filed a claim with my insurance for a leak in my roof that deteriorated the wood soffit and drained down my wall into my living room. The claims adjuster determined it was a minor leak, and not caused by storm damage, so it would probably not be covered but sent out a roofer anyways. Waited a couple weeks for the roofer to come. They were nice and professional but would not give us the quote, explained it would go to the insurance company. Another few weeks went by and my insurance said they were still waiting on the quote. Well we were finally notified via mail of our insurance claim and roof quotes. The adjuster determined we had $498 worth of damage, and Pioneer Roofing quoted over $5,000 to fix it. I don't understand how the 2 quotes could be so different? Plus we received 4 quotes from other roofers all ranged from $1100 - $2500. So this company is very expensive. But, this is the preferred contractor with my insurance, which I am required to use if I file a claim with them. So if this damage was covered I feel like we would have been stuck and had to pay the high price. Maybe that's why they charge so high because as the preferred contractor we don't have a choice. And, I can't comment on quality of work because we did not have the work done.

Response from Pioneer Roofing Company
Ms. Ashton’s facts are INCORRECT. Pioneer Roofing was contracted by the Insurance Company. Therefore, the Insurance Company receives the information and not the insured. We received the request for an inspection from the Insurance Company on 10/25/15. The inspection was completed 11/03/15. The inspection report was sent to the Insurance Company on 11/09/15. As of 11/09/15 we completed our obligation to the Insurance Company. Certainly no delays on Pioneer Roofing’s part. Pioneer Roofing nor the Insurance Company EVER ADVISED OR RECOMMENDED THAT Ms. [Member Name Removed] should hire PIONEER ROOFING. As a matter of fact, Pioneer Roofing NEVER contacted Ms. [Member Name Removed] OR ANY OTHER INSURED after an inspection was completed. The Insurance Company does not recommend a contractor AS IT WOULD BE A CONFLICT OF INTEREST. It appears that Ms. [Member Name Removed] was under a misconception regarding the facts. PIONEER ROOFING STRIVES TO PROVIDE THE REQUESTED SERVICES TO OUR CUSTOMERS. IN THIS CASE, OUR CUSTOMER WAS THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND NOT MS. [Member Name Removed]. With the above information and understanding, I respectfully request that Ms. [Member Name Removed] withdraw her statements and her grading of our services as they were never for her. I have used this company for many years (since Hurricane Andrew). They did a beautiful job replacing the roof in the main part of my house and later replaced the roof in an extension. I paid for a maintenance contract with them and it is the best money I have ever spent. Because I am in a high wind area with lots of trees, I frequently have broken tiles. They respond promptly, complete the work in a professional manner and send me a follow up report complete with pictures. Under the contract, even if I have no problem, they come and inspect the roof, clean the tiles, replace any chipped ones, etc. They never act like I am overdoing the use of the contract; they are careful of my shrubbery and flowers; and are a pleasure to work with. I never thought I would say that about a roofer! They may cost a little extra, but they are well worth the expense.

Pioneer is responsive, extremely professional, reliable, and concerned about quality. Many neighbors suggested that we turm to other providers with lower prices, but we opted for a high quality contractor and a high quality roof, under the theory that a roof over your head is one of the important things in life. Pioneer did an excellent job at the time of the original job - they completed on time, on budget, and worked carefully and showed pride in their work. The real benefit, however, came when we put our house on the market. Unlike many of the lower cost initial bidders, Pioneer was right there to respond to the buyer's inspection report, provide advice on a response, and to honor its roof warranty. The fact that we had a credible, reliable, stable roofer made all the difference. We couldn't recomment Pioneer more highly!

I called to get a quote to replace our roof. They were very professional and set up an appointment. They were on time and polite and took all the measurements they needed and said they would send a written quote in the mail as well as call me back from their office with the estimate. The written quote was VERY thorough, several pages long, but unfortunately the quote was for around $20,000.00 which was over twice what two other companies offered (1@ $8,900.00 and 1@ 7,900.00). Needless to say we decided to go with one of the other companies. But like, I said, they were very professional and thorough.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Other companies are willing to do an estimate, without charging you to pay for their marketing spots.
Description of Work: My wife gave up $275.00 (non-refuldable; would've been applied to eventual job, upon approval) for an inspection for a roof repair, based on a radio commercial heard on a morning talk show. Serves us right; this was way before joining Angie's list. She does not remember the name of the representative who came over but, after he left, she said that she felt like his casual conversation was more like a pre-qualifier that would then help determine the final price for the job. We used to work in sales, we know what 'blue-printing' questions are. Again, serves us right for being so trusting, since the information being asked was totally irrelevant to job that needed to be done. She said it was like when you unknowingly do something wrong and then think back and go: "Wait, what just happened here?" We received an email a few days (maybe a week) later, quoting $5k for the repairs. When my wife showed it to me, I asked her if this was just repairs, or if we were getting a WHOLE new roof, since I know that this was not what we needed. Obviously, we did not use this company. A month or two later, my wife received another call from the representative, following up on the job estimate. She told him we'd decided to go with another company. The rep then had the nerve to ask her if she minded telling him who we went with (more marketing related 'blue-printing' questions). She just told him that yes, she did mind and ended the call. I figure we handed over at least a partial payment for the very large amount of commercials that they still run on the same radio station, every morning.

. See above....it's all laid out there.
Description of Work: In May, 2007, I purchased a house in Boca Raton. One of the reasons I purchased this particular house was that the roof had been replaced by the prior owner in early 2006, and was, as far as I knew, compliant with the most recent codes. That work had been done by Pioneer Roofing. To date, i have had no leaks or other problems with the roof. Pioneer did offer to provide me with an extended guarantee (as the guarantee provided to the prior owners was not transferable), but it was too expensive as the guarantee excluded hurricane damage. I have recently received an inspection report done at the insistance of my homeowner's insurance company, which indicates that the roof installed by Pioneer was not installed to the code applicable when they did the installation in 2006. I forwarded the report to Pioneer, frankly in the hope that they would tell me that the inspection was not accurate. I have a copy of Pioneer's contract with the prior owner, and that contract expressly states that Pioneer's installation per the contract would be in excess of the code requirements.Pioneer's president, Mr. Gelfand, sent me, in response, a very rude email essentially telling me to drop dead. In that email, he also claimed to have sent an employee to my house, without charge, to check the skylights to see if they were impact rated. In point of fact, he did no such thing. I live in a gated community and no one granted entry to Pioneer to enter the property, much less go up on my roof. I do have to add, that if he had actually offered to send someone, I would have granted entry and access to the roof, but that did not happen. I understand that I was not the customer of Pioneer, so you can make up your own mind. My point is that this company refuses to defend the work it allegedly did, and, most importantly, which may not have been done properly or to code requirements. Mr. Gelfand has been rude, he has not so much as even offered to do any kind of review, nor proposed any charge for the services he and his company would render here.

I asked three different companies to come by and give me estimates and pioneer roofing came in at the highest price. The salesman was very professional and clean cut compared to the other two companies that looked like they just came off a job site. Yet the other companies gave me good information about the job and did give me garranties on their work. Pioneer roofing was the last estimate which was over$1000 more than the other companies. I am only a renter so my land lord made the final decision on who to go with. The workers arrived and started the work i already had a bad feeling when one of the older gentlemen wanted to tread through my house with his dity work boots to head into my bedroom to bring up some materials. I said no because i had my dogs and daughter in the living room and they had a ladder which could have used. Not a great start as far as i am concerned. After about 6 hours of work the workers where done but it seemed half done. They did not seal the entire deck they only did along the wall of the house and the edge of the balcony where the flashing is at. I assumed that they where coming back to finish up the work since all the companies said it was a two or three day process. One week later the came back and put up the rain gutter which looked great and it took less than two hours to complete and it match perfectly with the house. I was still waiting for them to complete the rest of the balcony. One week later a bad rain storm hit my house and it started leaking again into my living room. Needless to say i was very upset and i called the company back to find out when they where coming back to finish the job. They said "THE JOB WAS COMPLETE" I informed them that the balcony was not completely seal and it was still leaking in my house. I called the landlord and explained to them what happen and she was furious and complained. The company did come back and did do some minor touch up but i was not impressed with the work. They did some siliconing around the sliding glass door and a window and they did lay down a thin layer of some special latex paint to help seal the cracks on the concrete deck. But the should have placed the special water proofing material on the entire deck to ensure a tight seal. It did rain a couple of times and so far so good. But i will never call this company back. I feel that they did a weak HALF A_ _ Job!! In my business i deal with contractors all day long and i was not happy with their work. TOO expensive and the quailty of work was not up to my standards. "Friends in high places" You better work on your slogan. LIKE " We do it right the first time around"

Response from Pioneer Roofing Company
September 23, 2011 Re: Member - - Member of Angie’s List Members ARE NOT the owners of the property. Their facts are incorrect. All the work was completed 100% as per our written contract. To the best of my knowledge, they never saw the contract. If they did, they would have realized that we completed everything on the contract as per our agreement. I have a copy of that contract in my possession for anyone to inspect. Members facts are not correct. The roofing repairs were completed September 1, 2011 and not August 24, 2011 as stated. Under description of work they state, “Seal balcony deck to prevent leaking.” That was not the scope of work that was signed by the owner. Member statement that the person in charge of the roofing project was an old man. Unless Member is very young, the person in charge of the roofing project is not an old man. He happens to be in his 30’s. Another misrepresentation on her part. Once again, we were not to seal the entire deck - - only what we agreed upon, which was in fact completed. She stated, “The gutters were installed one (1) week after we completed the work.” Actually, the gutters were installed August 31, 2011 - - a few days before we completed the work. Another misrepresentation of facts. I was the person that spoke with Member and asked if he would allow my employees to go into their house and onto the balcony as they did not have a long enough ladder. They would have taken off their shoes. He said they could not. I dispatched another employee and brought a longer ladder to complete the work. Member called and advised me that although most of the leakage had stopped, there was still a small minor drip into the interior. He once again stated that he thought we were going to cover the entire balcony. This is not factual. My contract states exactly what was to be completed and that work was completed. Member told me that there was still a minor drop and it only leaked in heavy driving rains. I agreed to dispatch my estimator once again to look at the problem. At that time, I spoke with the owner who was not furious and was quite happy and understood what she had signed. She agreed for Pioneer Roofing Co., Inc. to complete additional work which we did and invoiced the owner. Member did advise my estimator that they were members of Angie’s List and he did not want to write anything bad. Guess what? As for the grading - - since when does a customer know what constitutes overhead and costs? If in fact my proposal was One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars more than the other companies, why did the owner choose us? I have never completed any work for her in the past. As a matter of information, when Member called and requested a proposal, we asked him how he heard of us and he advised my secretary that he heard of us on the radio. The request for a proposal came in on Friday afternoon. We were at the property on the following Tuesday morning. Exactly one and one-half (1 1/2) working days after we received the request. We were on time and responsive. Why only a “B?” Punctuality - - I submitted the proposal on July 15, 2011 to the owner. It was signed on August 23, 2011. I received a deposit check on August 24, 2011. Although the contract was signed on the 23rd, I did not get it returned until the 24th or possibly later. The work was scheduled as per our agreement. I called and spoke with Member and advised him we would be there on the 1st. We were. Why only a “B?” He states the roofing is not leaking. Why a “C” in quality? Their statement that although our price as One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars more, they were only renters and the landlord made the final decision. It appears that they wanted to use another contractor. In any case, I am available and will send anyone documentation as to my rebuttal to this unhappy and dissatisfied person (not my customer) because I dealt with the owner. If I can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to call. Pioneer Roofing Co., Inc. “YOUR FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES” Sincerely; PIONEER ROOFING CO., INC. Lanny Gelfand President pt/

The person who came out was a roof engineer and he was the only person who gave the accurate measurements. He walked on the roof with me and told me exactly what I needed. He told me specifically what needed to be done and also told me that he wouldn't be working in November because it was raining. The owner also was so responsive that when I called him he told me to tell him directly if there were any issues I was facing. The payment terms was that I had to pay him 30% before the work and after completion the 70%.I also told him that I would pay him 50% before and after completion the rest 50%. He even agreed to that. Overall they were honest, honorable, fair in price; very communicative and the owner is very responsive. I was surprised by the work they did. They were the only one that suggested the exact work they were going to do and the exact price. They cleaned up everything themselves. I really don't have any complaints about them. I would highly recommend them. I was very happy with their service. I would rate them high overall. I would definitely use them again in the future if needed.

Pioneer Roofing was recommended by someone who had a new roof put on after Hurricane Andrew. They were great, punctual, conscientious, and they even cleaned up. They were extremely professional and I think they are a fine company. I would definitely recommend them to others. They even thought to call us after this last hurricane to check on us. They are so great. Not too many companies would do this and after hurricanes hit this area, you really have to watch it because there are so many not so great companies out there that will try and take advantage of you. I am happy to say this is not one of them. They are very good.

Working with Pioneer Roofing was a wonderful experience. From beginning to end they were very professional and courteous. They delivered the roof tiles during the time period promised. When the time came to remove my old roof and put on the new roof, the work was done in a clean, quick manner. The tiles were delivered in two days, right to my roof, no sitting on my grass or driveway and within 2 days the roof was done. They came back to inspect and complete the fascia repair. I was the envy of my neighborhood. I have a neighbor who used another company and has had tiles sitting on his lawn for 3 weeks now. Thank you Pioneer for a great job. My roof is absolutely beautiful!

Response from Pioneer Roofing Company
AROUND MARCH 2005, WE RE-ROOFED THE MEMBERS HOME. ON JUNE 20, 2005 WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM HER REGARDING A STAIN/DAMP SPOT ON HER BED THAT SHE BELIEVED WAS DUE TO A LEAK COMING FROM HER NEW ROOF. WE IMMEDIATELY DISPATCHED OUR GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT AND JOB FOREMAN TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF THE STAIN. WHILE AT THE PROPERTY, THERE WAS A TORRENTIAL RAIN STORM AND THE MATTRESS WAS IN FACT WET. BOTH MY GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT AND JOB FOREMAN WENT INTO THE CRAWL SPACE AND FOUND THAT EVERYTHING ABOVE THE BEDROOM WAS TOTALLY DRY. THERE WERE NO WATER STAINS IN THE CRAWL SPACE AND THE CEILING WAS DRY. THEIR REPORT WAS “NO WATER IS ENTERING THE PREMISES”. WE WILL NOT ASSUME WHAT CAUSED THE DAMPNESS; HOWEVER, WE DO KNOW IT WAS NOT ROOFING RELATED. A LARGE PORTION OF OUR BUSINESS COMES FROM REFERRALS AND REPEAT CLIENTS. THEREFORE, WE TRY TO REMEDY ANY AND ALL CONCERNS RELATED TO OUR WORK. IN THIS CASE WE REPLACED HER MATTRESS EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT DAMAGED FROM OUR ROOFING. AS A NEW MEMBER OF ANGIE'S LIST (JANUARY 2009), WE ARE SURPRISED TO READ THAT THE MEMBER HAD TAR/ASPHALT ON HER DRIVEWAY. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS PROBLEM NOR DID SHE MENTION IT TO US WHEN WE RETURNED TO INVESTIGATE HER CLAIM OF A LEAK. CONSIDERING HER ROOFING SYSTEM IS UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL 2010, AND WE HAVE HAD NO OTHER CALL BACKS FROM HER, WE BELIEVE THAT OUR ROOFING SYSTEM WAS AND STILL IS WATER TIGHT. PIONEER ROOFING CO., INC.

Pioneer came highly recommended by a friend, whose roof they had replaced. I called for an estimate and was told there was a two week wait and a charge of $225. I trusted my friend, so I said OK and paid it. The estimator was very nice and knowledgeable, but I was shocked that the estimated price was twice what others said it should cost. The estimator complained about the traffic. I think he priced it high because he didn't want to deal with the traffic of driving to the job. Also may have been the Coral Gables factor, where work in Coral Gables is usually twice as expensive. Response to the Response: Au contraire. The other estimates included items described by Pioneer and a longer warrranty. Note that this call and estimate were more than ONE YEAR after Hurriane Wilma, so their excuse for the delay doesn't hold water. Most acute roof damage was fixed well within a year of the storm. Also note that their response was 2.75 years after the inital report, which is an indicator of their timeliness.
Description of Work: Leak in a section of my barrel tile roof.

Response from Pioneer Roofing Company
ON OCTOBER 17, 2006, THE MEMBER CONTACTED OUR OFFICE REGARDING DAMAGES HE SUSTAINED FROM HURRICANE WILMA. ON NOVEMBER 1, 2006 WE INSPECTED THE MEMBER’S HOME AND SENT HIM AN ITEMIZED PROPOSAL OF THE REPAIRS REQUIRED TO STOP THE LEAK IN HIS FLORIDA ROOM. ADDITIONALLY, OUR PROPOSAL INCLUDED THE REPLACEMENT OF ALL BROKEN TILES THROUGH OUT THE ROOFING SYSTEM, AND A ONE (1) YEAR GUARANTEE ON ALL WORK COMPLETED. THE MEMBER FEELS OUR PROPOSAL WAS MORE COSTLY THAN ANOTHER PROPOSAL HE RECEIVED. SINCE THE MEMBER DID NOT STATE THE WORK HE HAD COMPLETED NOR THE AMOUNT PAID, WE CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT OUR SCOPE OF WORK WAS MORE INVOLVED THAN THAT OF HIS OTHER ESTIMATES. WITH OVER 35 YEARS IN THE ROOFING BUSINESS, WE KNOW THAT IT IS MORE COSTLY TO COMPLETE THE WORK PROPERLY AND ACCORDING TO THE BUILDING CODE EVEN THOUGH A LESS EXPENSIVE CORNER CUTTING OPTION MAY BE AVAILABLE. WE APOLOGIZE FOR HAVING TO SCHEDULE HIS APPOINTMENT TWO (2) WEEKS AFTER CALLING US, HOWEVER, AS MOST PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER, SOUTH FLORIDA SUFFERED A LOT OF DAMAGE FROM HURRICANE WILMA AND WE WERE RECEIVING ALMOST 100 CALLS PER DAY EVEN A YEAR AFTER THE STORM HIT. WE ARE SORRY THAT THE MEMBER DIDN’T HAVE A BETTER EXPERIENCE, HOWEVER, HE WAS REFERRED TO US BY HIS FRIEND, WHO WAS A PREVIOUS AND CURRENTLY SATISFIED CUSTOMER. PIONEER ROOFING CO., INC
